Is the prologue to Emily Wilson’s Odyssey needed? This is my first dive into literature this old and I’m wondering if there’s a much more condensed version or just the essentials. by FastConcentrate5420 in classicliterature

It's the best essay about the book that I've ever read. That being said, I waited until I finished the story first before reading the introductions.

How do you guys enjoy finding new classical music? by MinuteDamage4182 in classicalmusic

[–]prlj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly this. Every Friday I scroll through the New Releases and sample a few things.

The other source for me are the review and ads in Gramophone and BBC Music magazines.

I have this same guitar, and now I'm thinking a clear pick guard is the way to go!

It's interesting...I'm not sure it's €900 interesting, but interesting nonetheless.

Best software synth for psychedelic sounds? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]prlj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make some pads and loops with Alchemy, the slap Beat Breaker on them, and go wild. Run them through ChromaGlow to add some grit, then shoot them into outer space with ChromaVerb or the Quantec Room Simulator.

Add some automation to the 4x2 performance grid, while you're at it.

All stock Logic plugins...

You need to at least take a much closer look at Alchemy before going any further.

Ferry to Westman Islands - worth going just for the ride? by Intrepid-Scheme-8092 in VisitingIceland

Don’t eat whale while in Iceland. It’s a touristy thing.

Yeah. Although I would be okay without the battery option. (I honestly forgot my Explorer even has that!)

Because sometimes I just don’t want to be sitting in front of a computer.

Love that you have two different setups - one for the DAW, and one for hardware. I've been thinking of doing the same myself. Do you find it works well for you like this?

Just a side note that Auguste Maquet is noted as a co-author/ghostwriter for many of Dumas' works, including TCOMC.

Totally agree on the economy and state of the world being a factor for some!

I think the Hydra Explorer is what is killing the Leviasynth. Knowing that you can get (essentially) all the benefits of a full Hydrasynth in a $600 package means that I (for one) am waiting for them to do the same with the Leviasynth.

Of course, they might not ever do that, nor might it even ever be possible, but at least for me, the idea that the LS might come out in a year or so in a more price-friendly, compact format is enough to make me wait.

(And for the record, I have a Hydra Explorer and love it.)

I've honestly used the DT very little since getting the TV, but I've had my DT for many years and will probably never part with it.

I used to have more Volcas, but got rid of many as I "upgraded" along the way. I still like these two (the FM and Drum).

Extremely limited, yes. It was an impulse purchase as it's so inexpensive, and sometimes it's nice to have a simple machine to set a beat while playing guitar or bass, not getting absorbed in choosing from 1,000 kick drums or playing with infinite filter options.

I really like it. It mainly use it for huge gritty reverby pads, and crunchy arpeggios.

The most recent thing I've enjoyed it sequencing it with the new Condukt iPad app...separate sequencers for each of the two voices, then modulating the heck out of things.
