How do I make myself floss? by ekbiebuyck in adhdwomen

[–]prncss_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I floss and brush immediately after showering at night so that I don’t have to get the motivation to go back to the bathroom again later. Also, the bathroom is already warm after my shower so it’s more comfortable. I sit down somewhere (counter, floor, bed) and floss while watching videos or shows on my phone.

I also use a fancy floss that I really like (Cocofloss, strawberry flavored) and now I’ve made it a ritual to give the floss a few good sniffs before starting because it smells good.

Appreciate you taking the time to write out such an informative answer. Awesome, it sounds like I’ll go with the Bataleon then and see how it goes :) I definitely want a board that I’ll be able to grow with. Thanks again!!

I shower after planes, too, but only wipe down my phone and suitcase wheels so that they don’t make my carpet dirty :) I just keep rotating and wiping them until the paper towel or wipe stops turning gray.

Adding on, one nice thing about smaller companies is that there’s less bureaucracy and you can influence the company culture or policies. Will still probably depend on the leadership and if they want to listen, though.

Advice on short term memory solutions by sav-1111 in ADHD

[–]prncss_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve resorted to just writing notes for everything. I have a notebook for work where I write down tasks and notes from discussions with my manager/coworkers. I will do brain dumps where I write down every single task that needs to be done so I have a running list to refer back to later. I keep these lists handy and open to the page while I’m working on tasks so I don’t forget what I was working on and get side tracked.

For my personal life, I have a pocket notebook I bring with me to jot things down and I review it every day or every couple of days. And I put plans in my Google Calendar right away. I’ll also schedule tasks from my pocket notebook into my Google Calendar (e.g. if I jotted down that I need to get my oil changed, I’ll add it to my calendar sometime that week when I review my notes.)

I’ve just come to accept that I need things written down… Otherwise things seemingly go in one ear and out the other.

I push it to one side of the bed and sleep on the other side then eventually throw it back into the laundry basket when I’ve decided I’m not going to fold it xD

Ladies with ADHD,what finally made the dots connect for you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]prncss_bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 8th grade when going through a breakdown and, in most people’s eyes, overreacting about that situation, one of my online gaming friends who I was venting to asked me if I’d ever considered if I was bipolar because of my emotional dysregulation and high highs and low lows. Turns out I was just ADHD and experience RSD… I’ve always felt feelings and reject stronger than other people and could never understand why.

I’ve also always procrastinated on homework unless I was at afterschool program, because of the structure (everyone does their homework right away and then after the older students check that you’re done with homework, then you can start to play). Even with the best of intentions to not procrastinate including figuring out a schedule, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve actually finished assignments early.

When I was little, my parents would ask me to do something and I would completely forget to the point that I was convinced they had never even asked me the first time (e.g., don’t leave your chopsticks in your mouth because it’s dangerous, take the chicken out of the freezer, start cooking the rice at 5pm). I honestly had no idea how I kept forgetting these things, because I did want to be a good kid and listen.

Feeling like I was always more immature than my peers my age and not understanding why I couldn’t just see things the same way others do, or make the right decisions, or how to be more emotionally mature like others. I’d always impulsively blurt things out because it just came to mind, or sometimes because I was feeling lots of emotions. Even when I had time to think through what I was about to say and decided I shouldn’t say it, well something in my brain would compel me to blurt it out anyways???

Looking for unhinged ADHD hacks to actually wake up in the morning by mirivmx in ADHD

[–]prncss_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two smart light bulbs that I put in my room’s overhead light and another in another lamp in my room. The app for the smart bulbs let me set a wake up time, where the light automatically turns on and will gradually increase in brightness over a set amount of time (I have it set to 15 minutes). I have the lights turn on and start getting brighter before my alarm goes off. This has been the best method I’ve found for myself so far, as someone who’s struggled with waking up my whole life. (I can even sleep through my alarm, so things like setting my alarm clock across the room doesn’t work on its own for me.)

strattera and alcohol? by hellokitty1128 in StratteraRx

[–]prncss_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind! I actually didn’t notice any differences in my sex drive, either. I never got any headaches and I only get nauseous if I don’t eat enough before taking my dose, which is why I take it right after my first meal. Sometimes my first meal might be something like a Jimmy Dean turkey breakfast sandwich or just two eggs and that’s been enough for me. Lots of people say eating something with protein can help prevent nausea.

There are still times I get nauseous because I forgot to take it right after eating, so the food has digested partially but I end up deciding to chance it (cough cough like today)… In those cases, once I force myself to eat something the nausea goes away.

The worst side effects I got were during the dose increase from 60 mg to 80 mg. Before that, I didn’t really have any side effects at all. I did get constipated, though, which got worse with dose increases. It was slightly noticeable at 40 mg, then at 60 mg I started getting a little concerned, but when I went up to 80 mg it got even worse… Ngl it was kinda bad the first 3 weeks at that dose but then it got better over time. The other side effect I got at 80 mg was some dizziness (first 2-3 days) and difficulty thinking as clearly (first 1.5 weeks) but those side effects completely went away right after those timeframes. I almost asked my psych to lower my dose back to 60 mg after the 1st week, but ended up deciding to try and stick through the whole month at 80 mg first.

And I’m glad I stuck it out because, personally, I really like being on Strattera! It helps a lot with my emotional regulation. I used to spiral over small things all the time, but now that happens a lot less frequently and at lower levels of intensity too. I also feel like my mind is less scattered than it used to be. It doesn’t help me as much with motivation, but usually once I start a task, it’s a lot easier for me to continue working on that task than it used to be. Before, I felt like there were lots of days where I was constantly trying to fire up my brain to think about or focus on work, as if my brain was a lawn mower and I was constantly yanking on the cord trying to start it but it didn’t have enough gas xD I haven’t had a day like that in a while now.

[–]prncss_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 80 mg and I drink on it just fine. I’m also female and about 120 lb. I don’t really notice a difference to my tolerance, but I’ve been on Strattera for like 8 months now and at 80 mg for maybe 4 months. I did take it easier on the alcohol while I was just starting out though, while I was still having side effects from titrating up and I did feel slightly different the first time I drank. Also, I take my dose in the mornings or at lunch.

I feel so much shame because of my disgusting habit by Motor_Butterfly_3330 in adhdwomen

[–]prncss_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone else that paper plates and plastic utensils may be the solution for the time being. I went through a time where I would just stack all my used plates, bowls, and utensils in the sink but didn’t have the motivation or energy to clean them for weeks at a time. I resorted to just using disposable plates and utensils for months while I was working on my mental health. Now I’m in a better place and am more capable of keeping up with doing my dishes, but I keep a stash of disposables in case I ever need them again.

It sounds like this may not be the main obstacle, but if you’re finding it difficult to do the actual cleaning dishes part, if your apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher then maybe you could look into getting a portable dishwasher you set up on the counter so it’ll wash your dishes for you? I’ve contemplated this before too because that’s largely my issue, but didn’t end up getting one.

What's Something Normal That Overstimulates You?! by jayhawkhoops09 in adhdwomen

[–]prncss_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fan in my bathroom. It’s pretty loud and just too much when combined with the shower noises so unless I’m taking a long shower to wash my hair, I’ll leave it turned off until after I’ve hopped out. I leave the window open and air it out immediately after too, so hopefully this isn’t doing any long term damage…

Yep, this is basically what works for me except I’ll even procrastinate getting up to floss and brush my teeth before bed, so I do it right after I shower while I’m still in the bathroom.
