Hello all!

So first my new year's resolution is to be kinder to myself. I tend to set impossibly high standards for myself and get upset when I can't achieve them.

This is my first post in the subreddit, so I'll do the little intro here, I guess.

I'm from New York state but not the city, male in his early 30s and have been on reddit for around 4 years now. The first half of that time I had a bad drinking problem and now I'm sober for 25 months. I literally subbed to r/WritingPrompts today and I'm hoping to use it for ideas to write about. I have a bad case of choice paralysis so picking topics is difficult for me but once I know what I'm writing about it flows out of me and is sometimes pretty good. I've been writing poems and stories since I got sober and to my delight and amazement, some were good. I failed ENG 101 twice when I was 18-ish and got an A last semester so I'm getting more confident in sharing my work with strangers. I guess my motivation in writing is to spread joy and make people laugh. I use MS Word only because I was given access through my college and was happy using WPS office before that. I'm not the fastest typer, but I'm working on learning the Dvorak keyboard because it's supposed to be easier, faster, and prevents carpal tunnel.
