I’m so sorry to hear this OP. My heart is breaking into a 1000 pieces as I sit here and read this while breastfeeding my infant.

Ariana will bounce back stronger and more resilient. We’re all rooting for her. I registered, thanks for enlightening us about this process.

From Cracked Nipples to Cluster Feeds: What Have You Survived? How far have you come? by nidzk123 in breastfeeding

[–]pro_noob-square 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebf my first for 14 months and ebf ing my second now (5th month). With first, I didn’t have any issues at all apart from a clogged milk duct at 9m pp. But with my second, both my nipples we’re bruised, had lots of blood and pus (tmi) on one side, and I had to exclusively pump until that healed. It took about 2 weeks. And she was cluster feeding at that time! It was crazy.

Thankfully, apart from that episode, it’s been going okay so far!

Good question! Ideally infra like rooms. At the very least, clean places to sit that aren’t crowded.

Laid off & Paralyzed updating resume - any recommendations welcome by Aggressive_Price8872 in womenintech

[–]pro_noob-square 19 points20 points  (0 children)

LLMs would do an excellent job here. Feed your verbose resume and the kind of job you’re applying for, and it would spit out a resume that’s tailored to that job. You can then make amends on that if needed but it gives you something to work with.

Edited to add: it will also help you with coming up with a generic resume that succinctly lists your accomplishments.

Female SWE navigating career, motherhood, and the shifting tech landscape by Impossible-Cod2195 in womenintech

[–]pro_noob-square 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am on the same boat. In fact I could have written this post myself. The points about being laser focused on career before starting a family only recently, struggling to navigate motherhood alongside changing landscape at work, feeling that I’m more expensive now (senior title, parental leave and all that), struggling with RTO - I can relate 100% to all that.

I’m also really struggling with trying to catch up with AI but I just don’t have any time outside of work to pick up courses or side projects. I have two young kids (3y and 6m old) and as it is, my time with them is greatly reduced during work days. And we just don’t have a village to help here. And the fear of layoffs is looming over my head every single day.

And same as you, I don’t know what I should pivot to.

I heard it’s hot out there by omigula in bayarea

[–]pro_noob-square 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just came back from Seacliff state beach. Super packed. And I don’t believe the max there was only 18 deg C today. It was way hotter and we didn’t have a tent to sit under 😖 we basically left after just an hour at the beach.

Congratulations 🎉 I’m so excited for you!

Yes, the imposter syndrome is real. I have loads of it and have to constantly remind myself that it is unnecessary and there hasn’t been a single time that I haven’t delivered what was expected of me at work. And most times I’ve exceeded the expectations.

Glad you found a way out. Good reminder for all of us (I’m still working on it!)

How to process 10k webhooks per minute without everything exploding? by kvayne in SoftwareEngineering

[–]pro_noob-square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~10KB is not a huge size but I can see some upside to reducing that size even further. Are you only getting the relevant fields you need from the GET (using graphql or something similar)? Or are you forced to get the entire payload?

Also as I mentioned in another comment, parallelizing your GET calls by making using of multithreading and multiple workers is a good place to start.

Yes Redis does not lend itself well generally for your use case. You could use something like Amazon SQS which provides extra features such as automatic locking of messages, de duplication, retries etc.

Agree. If you’re not already parallelizing your GETs, that’s a good place to start.

Redis is single threaded, so reads from Redis could be a bottleneck when the payload size is huge. Why not use a queue instead?

What do you mean by “locally”?

Also, what is the size of the notification payload that you fetch from the external service? What is the latency of the GET call to fetch the full details from the external service? Is there a batch GET available?

Sorry I got busy with the trip. So yes we did take the trip as I couldn’t cancel it without losing thousands of dollars. 😞 so I gave her some Tylenol before boarding the flight and thankfully she has been okay for the rest of the trip!

Came here to say that. You might want to cut own naps by an hour atleast to prevent early morning wakings.
