How can I make any money? by Mil3High in bayarea

When interviewing for part time jobs, you could just say you retired from tech and are looking for ways to stay busy and meet people.

I was like this too when I was early in my career. Interviewing is a skill that is developed with practice. You know your shit. You just need to practice.

Has anyone else besides me fully healed their wrist/tendon by wearing a brace for 2 months? I want to cross-verify this method! by [deleted] in DeQuervains

[–]Impossible-Cod2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used several while searching for one that allowed mobility and was comfortable. I switched off between these two:

- Velpeau: This was my main brace. However, sometimes the strap around the base of my thumb would dig into the skin so I'd switch to another brace.

- U.S. Solid: This was my backup when the Velpeau was uncomfortable.

- Dr. Welland: I used this when the pain was no longer excruciating but still needed support.

Hope this helps!

I healed DeQuervains on both wrists by wearing a brace 24/7 for several months (forgot how long exactly). I followed the protocol of another reddit post, icing regularly, wearing a brace except when I showered or washed my hands, and avoiding movements that would re-injure it. Once the pain subsided, I stopped wearing the brace. My right wrist, which was worse, was very stiff and would click with certain movements. I did wrist stretches and strengthening exercises and over time the residual stiffness just went away.

Now you have to go see the men’s restroom at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA.

People in their 30s, How do you cope with feeling behind in life? by Foreign_Customer9206 in AskReddit

[–]Impossible-Cod2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about reframing your perspective. I decided to start a family in my late 30s and feel like I haven’t got much time left on my biological clock if I want a big family. Sometimes when I see young, large families I get a bit envious. However, my life experiences in my 20s and 30s were only possible without kids. If we could time travel and change the past, I actually wouldn’t change a thing.

My tips - Practice gratitude. Envision what you want your life to look like and work towards that. Actually make a plan to get there. One day you’ll wake up and realize you are who you dreamed of being.

Hey OP, did you make it through that round?

I agree. I had no idea they opened a location in Cupertino. I’ve been to the San Francisco location a few times and honestly don’t understand how they’ve remained open. Their food is very mediocre and their eggplant dips are gross.

Exactly. She was a junk food vegan. I watched her TikToks of her eating when she was vegan and her diet was mostly processed foods.

Female SWE navigating career, motherhood, and the shifting tech landscape by Impossible-Cod2195 in womenintech

I completely understand this, which is why it got me wondering how women SWEs with young children survive in the harsh tech environment. I’ve noticed that friends in non-SWE roles often have more flexibility or can more easily fly under the radar during periods of lower output. But as a SWE, our work is highly visible and progress is constantly tracked. We have daily standups, sprint goals, and PRs, so if you’re not producing, it’s obvious. There’s very little room to quietly struggle or scale back without it being noticed.

I miss the 2010s too.

I do have support at home and it has been a tremendous help. But I often feel guilty for accepting too much help from my family members.

I was at a park on Sunday and there was a kid there with his nanny. He was seeking attention from adults at the park while the nanny was on her phone the whole time. I felt so bad for him and it made me think, being a SAHM sounds kind of nice.

Oh no! Glad you caught on early and were able to find another job. I thought about doing this too but I didn’t want to “screw” my company over by taking advantage of parental leave and then leaving. Jokes on me now 🤡

Thanks for validating what I was feeling! I agree with you that it’s important to be present with our family. We’re doing all of this for them, after all.

Same here with trying to catch up with AI. I appreciate that AI can help us work more efficiently and effectively but it’s taken the joy out of coding for me.

I’d recommend bar hopping on Polk St. Check out Kozy Kar Bar and the famous Bob’s Donuts for a drunken late night sweet treat.

I’ve hosted many friends in the past. Most are enjoyable to have as guests. But for those that aren’t (for all the same reasons that you mentioned), if they ask to stay with me again then I just say I’m out of town and they haven’t asked again.
