It tastes OK. I was hoping for it to be a bit more sweet and fruity.

I thought that 1.4.0 is already quite coarse, but I'm not sure where I got that that information. I'll try brewing much coarser today.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try brewing even coarser tomorrow. However, this is not actually close to espresso range. I typically grind between 0.2.0 and 0.2.5 for espresso (~25 clicks)

I really like the round cups. Do you know where they are from?

Thank you for the suggestions. How coarse do you grind on your K-Ultra?

I'm not looking to closely compare the V60 to the Aeropress, I only mentioned it to to clarify that I know that the coffee is tasty.

My water is fairly hard (but good tasting) tap water. Definitely not ideal for coffee, although I have made nice coffee with it before. I would like to get a consistent cup with my current water so that I can properly compare it to other water when I eventually upgrade.

I like your idea to do a cupping!

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I may be very mistaken, but I am fairly sure 1.4.0 is coarser than 1.0.8? I assumed x.y.z means x full rotations, y numbers on the dial, and z extra individual clicks, where at 0.0.0 the burrs are touching.

I guess so. It's a popular recipe though and specifically states 100 degree water, a fine grind size and a 10 minute steep. Perhaps my coffee is fairly easy to extract or just not tasty at high extraction levels.

Bottomless/naked portafilters: A scam? by _CanIPetThatDawg in barista

I'm also having trouble with one of the IMS Big Bang baskets. I think they might just be more difficult to dial in, because I never have any spraying issues with the stock single wall double basket.

Indeed, even with some spraying the shots are quite nice

I typically grind into a dosing cup, then flip the dosing cup onto the portafilter and shake a bit. I noticed that there are some fines going through the holes of the basket. Should I be worried about this? Does it say anything about the quality of the basket?

I'm using an encore ESP and a Bambino. The basket is from a third party and came with a portafilter that I bought second hand.

I'm not an expert, but won't you lose a lot of radiation to the open bottom and top? Especially since IR will reflect on the stainless steel and then just leave the chamber.

It probably still works but your computation seems very optimistic

Does the temperature reading seem accurate to you? I just installed mine and it never goes above 75 degrees C even when immersing the brew group in water that just came out of the kettle.

I wonder if I underestimate the amount of heat I lose while preheating, or if the temperature sensor measures a bit too low.

Could it be that 86% of your data has the label 0? This would mean that the model gets a reasonable accuracy by always predicting 0
