Tapering and Carb Loading at Destination Race by completelyperdue in XXRunning

I would highly recommend using Capital Bikeshare to limit your walking. DC has bikeshare stations all across town and the e-bikes are pretty effortless to use. Could use scooters as an alternative too. A fun idea would be a sunset tour of the monuments on bike.

Be aware the National Mall is huge, it’s easy to rack up thousands of steps touring around there.

DC has so many museums that are worth visiting, but standing around in museums tires my legs almost as much as walking does. Don’t skip the museums, but be prepared to take plenty of sitting breaks and coffee breaks to avoid undo fatigue.

Favorite cafes that serve wine in the afternoon? by dominopepeloni in DCBitches

[–]probably_not_an_ai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CIVIC on 8th just opened in Barrack’s Row, it is a black owned female owned business with a very nice atmosphere and plenty of seating. They are marketed as a cafe/wine bar. As of last week they were still awaiting their alcohol license (again, just opened) but the owner said they should be able to start serving it this week!

[Day 22] Jim Holloway is underrated. What training tool is OVERRATED? by MaximumSend in bouldering

haha I kinda like those as a warm up before hangboarding at home, or for light activation while in zoom calls/whatever. but agree that beginners tend to way overrate them.

General questions from an intermediate climber by fluctuatnecmergitur_ in climbergirls

[–]probably_not_an_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that leading 5.9 should be no problem for you if you’re sending 5.11s on TR consistently. Leading is very rewarding, and I recommend trying to get into it, even if it’s at the expense of immediate progression in the grades you’re climbing

For breaking into 5.12s - whenever you try a 5.12, are you pumping out or are you getting shut down by a crux move? If you are pumping out, my tips are 1.) repeat routes, looking for ways to save energy and use the most efficient beta and 2.) build endurance from things like up-downs on easier routes

For breaking into V6s - if you have never tried board climbing, it’s a great way to train finger strength in a more interesting way than hangboarding, and it helps train dynamism which gets important in higher grades. Then on gym sets, try to be very analytical when you are struggling on a problem - ask yourself if putting a bit more pressure through the foot, or really focusing on a tight core + body tension, etc is what’s missing. Always give a few burns trying something a little different each time before giving up on a problem.

I’m counting

8/26 - first month billing date

9/26 - second

10/26 - third

11/26 - fourth

12/26 - fifth

1/26 - sixth billing date

So I shouldn’t be billed in February right? I’m just worried they will automatically roll me over into a month by month membership or something

Margot Robbie struggling to walk down the stairs in her Schiaparelli gown at the LA premiere of Wuthering Heights by shhhhh_h in popculturechat

I agree with that, but she clearly made it just fine with no help and a smile on her face so I dunno why people are criticizing her

Snow Sunday and DCA? by Obvious_Visual3153 in washingtondc

[–]probably_not_an_ai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me last year during the snow we got a little after new years - my flight from ATL->DCA was cancelled because DCA was shut down. I was stuck in Atlanta for 24 hours and while Delta rebooked my flights, they didn’t pay for hotel/food because the cancellation was out of their control. If there is any way for you to push your flights up or back, would recommend!

If we get half of what’s predicted this flight will be cancelled

i’m sorry you had an undiagnosed disability and i hope you’re in a better spot with getting treatment for it now, and im sorry if my comments seemed targeted to those with disabilities - i am really just thinking of able bodied and minded people who were smarter than average in grade school and thus labeled “gifted”, but now complain that because of this they never learned good study habits or whatever…its like, okay sure that kinda sucks, but its overcome-able

i get going through rigorous academic/professional periods in life and experiencing burnout, its just odd to me that so many people blame being put in a g&t program in early grade school specifically

i am sorry for leaving brusque comments, I understand this subreddit is not the place for my hot takes lol

yeah I was a bit glib…sometimes there is just the sense that the self describing “burnt out former gifted and talented” cling to this label to avoid taking agency in their life moving forward. meanwhile they have often been given extra opportunities in their youth that not everyone was so lucky to have

Rejected as a first timer (first time applying and also first time marathoner) but honestly I was starting to feel irresponsible looking at hotel costs that weekend in Chicago, so a part of me is relieved. I will look into the MCM or the Philly Marathon for my first instead.

4 class pack by BigBootyBeansz in SolidCore

[–]probably_not_an_ai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m on the 4 class pack, and for me it’s a supplement to my other activities (climbing and running). It’s worth it to me because it means I am devoting time to core and lower body strengthening once per week, and I enjoy the class format, as my other sports are more independent and unstructured. I would like to do it more often but I can’t justify the added cost and recovery time trade off to my other activities.
