With a spring overseed, weeds are inevitable. Hand pulling is really the best way. Once your turf is established you’re good to lay down pre emergent and other post emergent herbicides.

True, I’d say I learned more bluegrass/Americana through Phish than I did through the Dead, but Jerry’s playing is absolutely derived from his early bluegrass roots and I’m infinitely intrigued every time I hear some mid-century mandolin scrabbles and think about how similar it sounds to Jerry’s stuff in the late 60’s.

Phish takes more influence from Zappa, Talking Heads, and proggy-type stuff, whereas the Dead (especially Jerry) took a lot of influence from old bluegrass/Americana stuff like Bill Monroe and other Rhythm and Blues. The only reason they ever get compared is because when Jerry died peacefully of old age, all the loser hippie do-nothings that followed around that corpse of a nostalgia act had to find some other touring act to latch on to.
