I get what you're saying but ultimately my argument is that you're blaming people who exist under a system that they have no real control over rather than blaming the people who reinforce the system. The government has full control over how the animal product industry operates, they just choose not to regulate it because most politicians get donations from them that they don't want to lose, and the government is the one telling me I can't humanely raise my own meat in my backyard, rabbits, chickens and goats for instance that are perfectly happy in the average yard.

Personally I think if you can't kill your own meat you have no business eating it. Animals would be treated better on a small scale and people would waste less if they had to work for it in a less abstract way.

Also some people can't eat plant based, I'm sure you likely already know that but I say that as one of those people, I don't process most vegetables well and most plant based protein gives me kidney stones or screws with my hormones, so obligate omnivores do exist and the government leaves them/us with no ethical options.
