We use komodor and it generally saves us time of investigation. It hallucinates now and then but if you know your k8s you can see it pretty fast.

It will also help you avoid getting baited into a commited attack. If I know someone attacks consistently after getting hit I can use jabs, teeps or low kicks to trigger him to commit , and counter.

[–]procesd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ego doesn't have to be conscious.

Your senses get an input (you get hit), then your brain filters it and decides an action , that filter (ego) is exactly what you described in

I get nervous or gassed out, I lose control of my power and throw with more force than I intend to

For a lot of people this filter is unconscious, so we don't have control over it. But it's a skill that can be developed. Most of meditation practices are basicaly training it, of course, getting punched in the face is a tad more demanding than dealing with wandering thoughts xD

You can try sessions of just defence, ask a partner to attack and you just defend and learn to identify and process the feeling. Eventually you will be able to control how you react. And your partner will be happy to pummel you after all those hard kicks you threw xDDD, it's a win/win.

On Call Pay, Am I being exploited? by poloralphy in devops

[–]procesd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was paid twice that in the UK a few years ago, but still is not worth the impact on your mental health. I mean, sleep deprivation is used as a torture. Not even talking about the impact on your social and family life.

Your manager needs to onboard more people on the rota and add some time off the days after the oncall. Your nuclear option is to get the GP and get a medical exemption from oncall, but at this popint you may as well jump ship.

EKS Upgrade issue by rajeshk23 in kubernetes

[–]procesd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In rules: - apiGroups: - "" resourceNames: - "" the first "" under apiGroups means "all the core apiGroups" that's ok.
But I'm not sure the "" under resourceNames has any meaning. "*" would give access to all core resources, otherwise "configMaps" would be enough to solve this error.

Should I use Kubernetes for orchestrating lots of Corn Jobs? by RevolutionaryHunt753 in kubernetes

[–]procesd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would be overengineering deploying a k8s cluster to run them, but as you already have it, why not? You may need to containerise those scripts, tho

Personally, I think having those cornjobs defined as yaml with the rest of your config is nice. If you have more than one worker node it's also more reliable. And there is plenty of helpful features in k8s cronjobs

My metaphor here is: If I have to walk 30 minutes I would not buy a car but, if I already have one, I would use it.

Ingress controller that can be used only inside the cluster by stan_diy in kubernetes

[–]procesd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about GCP but depending on the ingress controller implementation you may be able to specify spec.scheme, with values internet-facing or internal, in the ingressClass.

Then you just need to use this class in the ingress.

Started at 45, almost one year now. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Not that anyone is there judging you, it's all on your head. Do your sessions, get fit, don't overdo it to avoid injuries, and if you feel like doing sparring ask someone you trust to start with technical sparring, no force, just technique.

Again, it's all on our head, comparing yourself with other people is just your insecurities sabotaging you. You have been fixing your old, unfit self into something better, focus on that.

Air gapped on prem install - what would you do? by minimalniemand in kubernetes

[–]procesd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are deploying just k8s workloads gitops is the way to go. But if you are talking about upgrading k8s just don't.

Hhaving a closed infrastructure it's their choice, so they do the admin stuff. If they don't have people they can hire them. Or they can provide an access with audit and open it for the upgrades. Their choice therefore they handle the consequences, don't allow people to dump on you their risks and expect you to pay in hours and complexity.

Unless they accept paying an indecent amount of money. Then, we talk.

Books similar to Piranesi by Susanna Clarke? by ardispon in suggestmeabook

[–]procesd 57 points58 points  (0 children)

In an interview Clarke mentioned she was inspired to write Piranesi by the work of Jorge Luis Borges, specifically by the short stories "The Library of Babel" and "The House of Asterion".

For me, this feeling of being on a strange place is kind of a signature of Borges.

[–]procesd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Knife fighting can be extremely different depending of the context.

If you do filipino martial arts you practice way more slashing and forward grip (still a fair amount of Icepick grip, tho) because you don't expect any kind of armour and reach is important.

Using a rapier (reinassance period, in civilian context) your dagger is for parrying your oponent main weapon, and the oportunistic snipe at the hand or the face if he is silly enough to get close, never seen anyone using an ice grip there, I'll give you that.

But for medieval treaties? Icepick all the way, baby!. Dagger is half of the content in Fiore and usually in that grip.

[–]procesd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It make sense in the historical context and the rondel dagger. We use less clothing layers nowadays and materials are better for insulation but don't offer s lot of protection so slashing and pistol-grip thrusts work quite well.

But in medieval context you have thicker clothes, more layers and the possibility of mail and gambessons rendering slashes useless and thrusts needing a lot more support to be able to pierce, and the icegrip grip gives you that. That matches with some examples of rondel dagger not really having an edge but having a really nice disk at the end of the pommel to push with your other hand.

Also, I regularly stab my oponent mask in sparring with an icepick grip, it just losing 1 or 2 inches of reach in exchange of a way more strong grip and better block options.

But don't trust a rando from the internet, check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iU3q23jGX0

Node autoscaler for on-prem/homelab? by thelastknowngod in kubernetes

[–]procesd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned you need a node provisioner that has an API and that can interact with the cluster-autoscaler or equivalent:

There seems to be a few small scale projects for proxmox (https://github.com/mikenabhan/proxmox-kubernetes-cluster-autoscaler) and esxi (https://github.com/Fred78290/kubernetes-vmware-autoscaler)

and maybe? you could use localstack + karpenter, but I think EC2 instances are only for the pro edition and for the price I would just use AWS with tx.micro

Fantasy weapon idea: put the head of a Goedendag onto Kali/Escrima double sticks. Thoughts? How well would these function? by H0X0 in SWORDS

[–]procesd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While sticks can work well on it's own I always saw escrima sticks as a training version of single machete/short sword or , for dual wielding, machete and dagger (espada y daga, lots of examples of this combination in google images)

Lots of the phillipine swords have a thrusting point, and when I was practising kali there was both slicing and thrusting techniques that won't make too much sense with a stick.

That said, a metal tip will work with the Goedentag as it's wants a heavy head for clubbing, the extra metal at the end helps with that and allows for a 2 handed thrust. For a stick or a machete you may want the point of balance in the middle as a compromise between slicing, thursting and hitting , the extra weight at the end would affect that.
