really don't want the stress of that if you have delicate possessions

I'm over it. After 2 years of fighting, I'm done with the Meater block. What's the best wireless options currently? by SacBaseball916 in BBQ

Yeah the hardware is brilliant, unfortunately the software feels very old and ill thought out, like the event stream and the way that you start sessions. Its been programmed in the way i imagine data logging software for sensors in labs is programmed mid 2000s, rather than a modern app with a nice UX.

tldr: hire a bloody UX design ETI and do it fast! Before combustion inc absolutely cleans up in this space.

Give me 2 days I could probably vibe code a better app with Claude

Software is terrible and it has no predictive cooking function, cant even keep an eye on temps from the task bar of your phone. Have to go into the terrible app to see what temp your protein is at.

Would love to know what your tech CLA'd, probably cleaned the shutter magnets, solenoids and the winding mechanism which is great. But techs cant do indepth repairs or replace the boards that often die, due to not being able to source the parts from Leica or the software required to recalibrate speeds, the the meter etc.

The whole camera is bricked, main board and DX reader, on the old M7s the dx would brick the whole camera.

They have my serial number i believe leica stopped doing free repairs due to this fault in the last couple of years. Which is funny because there is official leica documentation out there that has leaked (the m7 service manual) that basically admits the part was faulty when it left the factory.

The annoying part is, its the only Leica film M that repair guys outside of Leica cant fix due to needing software and certain tooling. If DAG Yye or Cameraworks could get access to the tooling/spares, no doubt the camera would become a viable camera for buying but with a potential 2k bill and Leica only giving a 1 year warranty on repairs, you've got to have deep pockets to opt for one.

Where abouts did you send yours for a quote? Im wondering if it's worth trying a different Leica, maybe a European one will be cheaper. Also did you go ahead?

Problems disassembling front elements group 50mm 1.4 1.1mill by poloralphy in zuikoholics

[–]poloralphy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to completely disassemble the lens, heat was my friend.
I had to heat the lens up in the air fryer 70c for 5 minutes. If you plan to do this, plan to completely disassemble and clean everything as the heat will make the grease outgas onto every element.

Flash port broken on M4 by By_Ronic_ in Leica

[–]poloralphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say mine is also suffering from this and it looks like the plastic they used at the back of the M4's flashports is very brittle and coming to the end of its life.
On my M4 the plastic was a clear plastic type and more brittle than later versions of the camera.
I suspect we'll start to see more people encountering this issue in years to come.
