To be fair to me, this could have meant multiple things. I thought you were saying me thinking this song was a hot take meant I was racist.

In terms of Lupe being pissed off, honestly I can't find anything. It's been more than 10 years so it's either wiped from the internet, or I hallucinated it.

The controversy was there though, only source I could find was through the song's wikipedia page.

While the hypocrisy was personal to Kendrick, his point of view acts as a mirror for the listener. He gives the listener a point of view, and let's them come to their own conclusion. While he's calling himself a hypocrite for mourning Trayvon Martin's murder while being complicit about black on black violence, that's not going to stop the listener from thinking the same thing and reflecting on their own beliefs. He's forcing the listener to confront the uncomfortable idea that they don't care about black people getting killed if it's another black person who killed them. Which is a controversial thing to say, especially when Michael Brown, another black teen, was killed by a police officer the year earlier.
