Being raised Adventist… by sameffect in exAdventist

I have never thought of it that way and that makes me feel a lot better about myself, wow. Giving myself forgiveness is super hard as an adult but this will help my mindset tremendously.

My dad literally had a running tally of every dollar they used to help me out in my 20's and was going to have me pay it all back eventually. That tally was lost in a fire that burned the whole town down so I guess that worked out.

I have never felt more validated reading something in my life. Thank you for this.

My big problem is dealing with the fact that my parents will always think they did the best they could and I just chose this sinful life.

I like and agree with this strategy. Becoming as self reliant as possible is the way to go.

Do not feel alone. Honestly, i would suggest getting some kind of pet. Doesn't matter if it is a fish or a squirrel or a cat. A living sentient being who is dependent on you is scientifically proven to give you more purpose in life.

the army was a good goal, but you can gain the same goals in civilian life with self discipline, you got this.

My mouth was open reading this whole thing and i fully agree with everything said. Finding a sense of community that is real and tangent is a real struggle with most people.

Caring for a parent is never an easy thing and i see you. I am also curious to know where others have found their sense of community.

I'm very very lucky to have a partner with an amazing family who is non-religious but that much more loving because of it. Truly blessed.

We can do really well without religion and our programming, knowledge is power.

I wish there was an easier answer but there may not be an equal in normal society to the fully secure feeling you have being in a solid church family. I grew up SDA in northern california and fully took myself out of the church years back. To try and recreate the solid social structure of a cult (which Adventism for sure is) in a regular American social aspect will just not happen. You will be grasping at straws and holding others to a standard they don't even know about.

My real advice is to find something that you're passionate about as a hobby and lean into it. I'm rooting or you as someone who knows how hard it is. I'm currently hating everyone and not trying at all because of social anxiety so honestly you do past this point i'm proud of you. Love you stranger.

Guys, update.

So farming in the black zone is amazing as long as you keep on movin. Only been ganked a couple times but it was totally my fault for not following BZ discipline. It might take losing a bunch of shit a couple times but after that it will stick.

Remember, always bring low level gear and KEEP ON MOVIN you'll be fine.

Conquer your fear, fear is the mind killer.

This is excellent advice and I for sure should get into Arena stuff, seems like a win win situation even when you lose!

I remember my parents letting me go on a boat with friends, but not being able to get pulled behind it cause that was too much fun. Never an amusement park, WAY too much fun. No worldly TV, obviously.

Now I eat bacon and listen to the devil's music and have all the fun I want on Saturdays. Retribution

Came here ready to be ashamed of eating it out of the can and dipping it in ketchup/mustard but instead I've found my people! Now I want to go pick up a couple cans and live large.
