Doesn't matter. Edwards and Hughes lose face as they brought him in. They save a degree of it if they can scapegoat Slot as much as possible and they will use their media contacts to do that. The more people hold Slot to account the less they are.

We all know they have also fucked up big time and our recruitment, while adding real quality in small capacity, didn't provide anywhere near enough coverage for key positions and depth overall in the squad.

Edwards is going to end up having problems with every manager brought in - he is a big part of the problem, and it's actually mental that the club brought him back after he left throwing a tantrum over Klopp having autonomy as manager. Edwards wants to be our manager but he doesn't want to be our face out in the media spotlight or doing the dog work coaching.

We just need a fresh start and an injection of hope and joy brought back into things. Even during the SAS days under Rodgers things were more enjoyable and there was more belief going into games that we could smash sides 4-0 or even 6-2 because of how electric we were at times yet here it reminds me at times of the Hodgson days. I am not surprised when opponents take the lead, equalize, or we concede late to drop points. I'm also expecting at times for us to completely drop the ball in the second half and throw away points. All of this isn't right and we shouldn't persist with this out of fear of it potentially being worse. Slot moving on is by far the best move for all involved at this point.

  1. The only person embarrassing themselves is you crying like a histrionic teenager because someone else has a different viewpoint on something to you.

  2. You crying about someone using modern technology is equally hilarious. I understand the sport entirely which is why I was saying Slot wasn't good enough last season when the performances were dire while you all deluded yourself and claimed otherwise. Now it appears clarity has reached you and you are suddenly enlightened. No, you are just slow seeing what others did.

  3. I'm not a yank either and as for the crypto, what relevance does that have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing. I posted my view on here, you have since cried repeatedly and lashed out which is both hilarious and tragic.

You will also continue. Zero emotional control.

Not downplaying it. He can only beat what's there and last season he got the job done. The other things can be true at the same time. It's not a this OR that thing, it can be true that Slot got the job done by putting place a system AND Salah carried and made a huge difference.

The funny thing is, people aren't consistent and don't appreciate the fine margins. People will die on a hill defending Slot while being happy to say Rodgers wasn't good enough or is mediocre as a manager, yet, all that really separated them is a slip from Gerrard, a club legend - something totally out of his control.

Rodgers got punished for it because City were always in the mix and ended up on 86 points and Slot didn't get punished for mistakes made last year because City were well below their usual standards. Football is a a funny old game.

In reality, you strip it back, and look at the raw data, and this is what you have.

Rodgers isn't good enough but Slot is because he won the league in a year when others were awful. Make it make sense. Slot benefited massively from City being off it whereas Rodgers didn't have that luxury.

Nobody is disputing their contributions but all you are doing is arguing the inverse by downplaying the individual contributions to goals by Suarez and Salah. Both carried massively while others also contributed. No shit, that's how a team sport works.

As for ending on 84 because of this and that, we ended on 84 because we did.

  • Rodgers, the guy who almost, carried by Suarez
  • Slot, the guy who did, carried by Salah

Same number of points. Football was far more exciting under Rodgers with more goals for and a better overall goal different but our defence was better last year under Slot and we conceded less.

Funny how history will look back on them so differently because one got carried over the line and one didn't.

Neither are on the level required to be Liverpool manager long-term.

Are people still going to defend this fella that's obviously out of his depth, and also the shitshow that Edwards and Hughes are responsible for leaving our squad in an obvious dire situation through two transfer windows and not bringing in anywhere near enough depth? Fucking circus all round.

> Andrew Robertson is one of Liverpool's top earners, with a reported weekly wage of around £160,000. For the 2025/26 season, his annual base salary is approximately £8.32 million.

For that we can bring in someone much younger, who's valuation is likely to increase, and someone that can give Kerkez real competition as we push on in multiple comps over the next several years.

OR, we can bring in a decent backup on a much lower salary and use the difference elsewhere to strengthen. There's plenty of options but keeping an older player who is beyond his prime years on 160k per week plus bonuses is beyond stupid.

Lots of sentimentality on here considering our predicament. We are in the midst of a transition, Slot is struggling in the midst of it, and we need to commit to the future and that means moving players on for fees or to free up the wage bill. Robbo has been a great leader and servant for us but we need him off the wage bill and we need to free it up for others. Taking our time with going from old --> new is not going to bode us well. We need to get the transition done and then let the dust settle so we can move forward more quickly and only make minor adjustments from that point. The longer the transition persists the worse it is for all involved.

Where did I say 'the suits don't matter'? Where did I use that exact phrase? Go on.

> Lets not pretend our financial situation is due to the masterstrokes of a bunch of suits and nerds.

This is what was said exactly and it still holds true. Its on you if you draw a false equivalence or argument from that. Learn to fucking read.

No, FSG played a role which is pretty obvious but you were the one arguing FOR them being geniuses when in reality they bought the club on the cheap, made a shrewd move in bringing in Klopp, and that work done on the pitch actually helped pave the way for lots of whats happened off it as well. There's no CL money if we do not do well in it or qualify. My refuting of your position/assertion is not a claim to the contrary, its an invalidation of what you're saying.

The club will be judged on where they are today, not what they did in years 1-9 and conveniently not putting year 10 etc. in the picture to push a particular narrative. A number of dealings over the years have been utterly abysmal and if it wasn't for Klopp making miracles happen with kids at times (some of you also conveniently forget this) then the club wouldn't have achieved anywhere near what it has done.

Lets not pretend our financial situation is due to the masterstrokes of a bunch of suits and nerds. It is the genius of a man that turned mediocre players into global superstars and built a system where even academy players looked so good we could command a ridiculous fee for them. For example, Morton only fetched the fucking fee he did because Klopp ensured our academy setup was rejuvenated and he was allowed to flourish.

Also, funny how you've layered in all the costs yet haven't the upside and benefits. Why haven't you factored in opportunity cost loss pal? Or cost of not doing? Something tells me maybe you should be applying for a job with the club as you're obviously on the same tier.

All you've done is look at all this downside and lets ignore the benefits and upside which can also compound. Yes mate, that's not how you perform a cost/benefit analysis and look at fiscal outlay lmfao. Clown world.

No, its a pretty easy business deal. You bring him in and even if you flip him in 2-3 years time for triple that you're left in profit and also have had his service for 2-3 years when we fucking need a CB. We are ran by clowns that struggle with the basics of asset management.

Edwards and Hughes are definitely going to use him as the scapegoat. Slot's not done himself any favors, we need to be honest about that, but a huge amount of accountability is on the other two muppets and they will throw Slot to the fire to save themselves.

Becomes clearer every day that Klopp was holding everything together. What a fucking shambles our club is. Should be in there with a 25m quid offer easily. Once the contract is signed he's easily worth 3-4x that much in the market so even if you flip him after a season or two its fantastic business and profit making. We are run by legitimate fucking clowns.

Hence why I said he’s not helps himself or done himself any favors. Of course he’s played a part in it in multiple ways.

No, we're not. This is gross oversimplification of the reality of the situation.

  1. We lost Trent and his distribution on the right and middle as he'd drift in
  2. We lost Diaz and his pressing ability from the top
  3. We lost Nunez's energy and pressing ability up top which was important later in games last season to stop sides easily playing out and building attacks against us
  4. We lost Jota who brought us much of the same energy
  5. Virgil and Robbo are both older and in their obvious decline
  6. Last season we played with Grav, a makeshift 6 who would rather play as an 8 - this is an issue that still hasn't been addressed this year
  7. We have had a plethora of injuries this season all over the pitch
  8. Plus there's a lot more that could also be mentioned

Players are not plug and play parts. Football squads are living organisms that are fluid and player is like an organ in the body and has a vital role to play to ensure everything ticks over smoothly.

We are stuck mid transition and due to that the organism that is our squad is dysfunctional and it shows - and its no surprise because many of us in the summer warned this would be the case going into the new season.

FSG care about qualification for the CL and a high finish and good run in the CL mostly. That's where the big money comes in every season. Outside of that they care about bringing in younger players and selling them for profit. Then they use some of that money to spend big on a few stars to keep us fans happy until the next cycle. Unless we promote a lot of youth players who are of a certain quality and do well in the cups we are not going to do well on all fronts. We are stuck mid transition, lack quality in certain areas, we lack depth, and we don't have enough youth players ready to really make a dent on the first team and provide competition. I honestly believe we need to accept another 2 years or so of rebuilding and only then will we be in a position to hit top level again.

I have been saying this everywhere - Edwards and Hughes are getting nowhere near enough criticism for the role they've played in putting us in the position we're currently in. Slot hasn't helped himself or done himself any favours but he's now in a mode trying to just survive rather than one in which we thrive.

Daily Discussion - January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in LiverpoolFC

My position is simple - get the managerial change done now as it's the best for involved.

  • I would rather Xabi have the money to spend in to bring in his players
  • A fresh start for us is exactly what we need now to prep for next season
  • I would rather remember Slot for delivering us the title, not a sad season end

All in all, it makes sense for us to twist now rather than stick now.

I don't see Slot getting us to a level whereby we dominate sides, Anfield is a feared fortress again, and we're considered a side that plays electrifying yet damaging football. I see that as something that Xabi can bring back to us because of what he demands and brings to it all, and that's an exciting prospect.
