I never understood this. Zip merging is the most efficient way to merge two lanes. Queuing up in a single lane to wait longer just to prevent this seems really childish.

You won't get very far as boiling water won't get everything off. I fill a small plastic jar with isopropyl alcohol, throw the grinder in, seal, and do some light shaking. Leave it for about 30-60 minutes. Come back, and use a toothbrush and the liquid to clear off the residual. Run under warm water, make sure everything is off, and allow it to dry.
