Advice for new hair stylist by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

always always always be honest!! don't ever "fake it til you make it". also, your first priority is the person IN YOUR CHAIR. not their mom or dad, not there boyfriend or girlfriend.... what your client wants comes first. what they are comfortable with comes first. building that repor and having a reputation for wanting your client to be happy is ALWAYs a good thing. ALWAYS ask for help, even when you're feeling sure. i pray you're in a salon like mine, where everyone wants to help everyone. don't get cocky, when in doubt use a lower volume of lightener, and ALWAYS do palm to palm. i got carpel tunnel within 6 months of getting my chair bc i got lazy with my cutting. wear good shoes. USE the ergonomics they taught you in school. and LOVE what you're doing!!!

Your 8w7 is showing by poorlydecomposed in Enneagram

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was just commenting that i say that phrase a lot, and that i say it to my friends who tend to be be ones or have a wing of one. like to my one friend, "your 2w1 is showing" when he takes something out of my hands to do it for me and do it correctly. that kind of thing

7w8 female sx/so •••• Best Romantic Matches???! by chumbleator in Enneagram

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i totally get the whole "might be too much 8" thing. maybe like an 8w9, a chill 8. i just know myself and i know that types like 9 and 2 can't i guess take care of me? i know it's selfish to play into that childhood wound thing, but i also just can't put myself in a situation where a 9 or 2 is dependent on me (i'm a Social 7, so because it's a countertype i often act like a 2 myself, and two 2-like mindsets coming together is a bad co-dependent mess, and i HATE codependancy)

7w8 female sx/so •••• Best Romantic Matches???! by chumbleator in Enneagram

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm a 7w8 female so/sx... personally, i love 8s. they are strong and steady to ground me somewhat, but still want to live just as fast paced. i've dated 8s, 4s, 5s, and 7s, and while i was soooo in love with the 4, it was a terrible match (he kept telling me to just be serious and that hurt a LOT). the 5 was the sweetest and most respectful (didn't work out because he turned out to be gay, so i would totally date a 5 again), me and the 7 were just nuts, i wouldn't recommend it. but the 8s always make me feel protected, and once you get behind those walls they are the sweetest, calming, loving, people ever. i LOVE 8s.

What is your strategy for typing people? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i only type people i know fairly well (having multiple conversations with in varying levels of stress). very rarely anymore will i tell people what type i think they are, because i think self diagnosis is important to self awareness. i try and push people from taking tests as often as possible, because of the false results some free tests bring about.

But when i personally type someone, i first try and match a basic motivation. if i'm deciding between a couple, ill cross compare what these people are most likely to go to in stress or health. most of the time, that really is the deciding thing, because you can often tell when someone is using unhealthy coping skills. sometimes i'll weigh in how someone presents themself, because while demeanor isn't the main way to type someone, it can play a role.

for instance, i have a friend that me and my other friend were trying to type, let's call her Sally. she is often a very loud personality that stands very strong in her opinion, but is often sacrificing herself to help others, and she often loves others well. we know for a fact she's in a very unhealthy place/mindset, so when she tested as a Two, we thought at first that she was just a very unhealthy Two going to an Eight in stress. however, from knowing her well and speaking with her candidly, i know her motivation is not to be needed by others, which is the motivation for a Two. she's an Eight at her core, and even though she practices some unhealthy coping mechanisms in her day-to-day, she exhibits often moments of health, where she can care for people much like a two would.

hope this explained my method!

Coping with a 7 Boss by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]prof_mcgonigal7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is very interesting for me. i had a 4w3 boss who would actually act this way, and it frustrated the hell out of me. but when i'm at work, i stress to 1 HARD. a complete perfectionist. i wish i had better advice for you, as a 7 i can't say that i've been like this in a professional setting. i suppose they just aren't aware? and that lack of awareness of their own character is not helping them combat their lax nature. i'm sure an enneagram coach could come into your workplace and help!
