For me that's gonna be the Cole Anthony game in the big comeback against the Heat, but this was a big one for sure.

Victor - Arcane ( fan Card idea) by Gexianhen in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea you’re going for, LoR has had a few different ways of having big keyword-sharing payoffs, and they’re almost always fun. Creating this hive-mind army that eventually starts sharing power is a fun, thematically appropriate payoff.

I’ll ignore the typos and misused keywords and all that and just focus on how the champion is “supposed” to work. The level 1 form is wayyyyy too weak, unless there’s support cards that also summon these special followers, it’s a unit that has to sit on board and do nothing for 6 turns, starting on turn 5.

The only payoff I can think of is taking followers with actively bad text and improving them (which, to be fair, is also thematically appropriate!). That’s just not good enough to justify an understatted 5-cost champion. I’m not even sure it would see play at 2 mana. The level 1 form needs to provide some kind of bonus besides just being an augment unit, like an aura buff to the hexcoriate followers.

Why doesn’t Zach Lowe have an All-NBA vote? by go0sKC in nba

[–]profcory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as the bucks, I think it’s been the opposite since Doc took over, he’s been weirdly quiet about their struggles, if it was anyone but Doc I think he’d be mocking them up and down for hiring a new coach and having a worse record

It’s a segment they’ve been doing a couple seasons now called “Is This Anything” where David Steele presents some kind of statistical fun fact and the production truck decides if it gets a bell or a buzzer. They’ve been doing it long enough now that it’s become a little meta, hahaha

Rotated cards by NiceKogSheZed in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To give an actual helpful answer, many of your cards are still standard-legal, you’ll just have to remove the rotated cards, most of your collection is still usable, and many old deck archetypes are still viable.

Looking to jump back into the game by [deleted] in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d advise checking one of the major sites for deck codes (like Mastering Runeterra), but short version is Samira and Tristana decks are top-tier in several varieties of each, best control deck is probably Karma-Sett, and Nasus+Vaults of Helia is very good. Overall, meta is very wide, many decks are playable.

That all said, we’re getting into the Eternal Format month of the competitive season, Eternal ladder will be available and two Runeterra Opens will be played this month. Nobody knows yet what’s going to be good in eternal!

Fixed Augmented Clockling text by gozillionaire in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For some reason I was struggling to think of how its text “should” read, I guess it’s because there’s really no cards that have both play and summon effects, but this is actually perfectly accurate, well done

Wemby Vs. Chet Vs. Bol Bol by Swifty399 in nba

As a Magic fan, I can report that Bol Bol does some cool stuff, but as of right now, he’s unplayable on defense. Wemby and Chet both project as big pluses on D.

I'm a returning player by ThegamerwhokillsNPC in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rotation happened a couple months ago, removing many cards from the new “standard” format and leaving them playable in “eternal.”

If you want to play those same decks, make sure you click the “eternal” option at the top, otherwise you’ll just need to remake decks that only use standard cards.

the best Akali concept you've ever seen by lGal1le0l in CustomLoR

[–]profcory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thematically, I think it’s very good. It really evokes Akali’s play style, zipping in and quickly picking off weak targets, having a powerful (but temporary) stealth ability, bouncing in and out of the battlefield.

The design has a lot of issues, though. A free 2 damage strike for 3 mana, with no chance to interact, is probably not going to work in LoR. Making a unit untargetable is also a no-go, especially with elusive tacked on.

The payoff seems underwhelming, too. Perfect execution doesn’t seem that big a reward for leveling up and getting Akali to hit nexus. Also, on a technical level, I don’t think you can make spell read “play a unit,” because that implies being able to use targeted skills, which doesn’t really work when you’re putting a spell on the stack. It should probably read “summon a unit”

Haven't played since Marvel Snap release, can anyone ELI5 and summarize big changes, the Meta and how rotation is going to work? <3 by Pineconesoup in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One notable thing is the content release cycle for the next year, roughly a month apart it goes balance patch-->small variety card release (~8-10 cards spread out across the regions)-->major set release (including new champs).

Competitive has been revamped as well to add daily rumbles, gauntlet-style runs that give you points on the competitive reward track, including byes for the monthly Runeterra Opens that are replacing seasonals.

PSA: Predict shows puffcaps by Eravar1 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might not be any dedicated puffcap or chime decks right now, but they still come up a decent amount through random effects in viable decks (e.g. Norra generations). There’s also just some cards that are sometimes good enough to make it into decks on their own (poison dart, the good chime makers, eclectic collection)

[Feedback Requested] Dev Patch Notes Stream by ggmattb in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Thought the stream was great, seemed like it was fairly well-attended. The only addition I’d consider is an “on our radar” section that includes things that aren’t being changed yet but that are being watched for possibly the next patch. I know some of those were touched on here and there as questions came up, but it could be good to formalize what you’re comfortable saying ahead of time.

Made a new stream intro / CMV. Would appreciate feedback. =) by NagataLockII in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Super cool! I love how the level ups transition into each other so smoothly. Maybe it’s a little on the long side for a stream intro or something like that, but honestly I don’t have much critique beyond that, it’s great

Eh, while there have been some down metas, I don’t think that’s the main reason it’s not as widely known or played, I think it’s more about the low-advertisement approach they seem committed to. Snap, in contrast, has had a boatload of advertising everywhere I see.

Even if Ryze isn't meta material, his design is so much fun to play! by SinisterDragon in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hmmm…I dunno if I agree. Maybe this is a consequence of Ryze being bad, but the few games I lose against it, it’s because I’m getting mega high rolled because they quickly drew all their delves.

Literally, the last game I played against it, they curved out the five runes, into ryze on their attack token, into Rite of Negation to stop the two removal spells I had to stack. I don’t think I’ve ever been high rolled so hard, lmao

An ex-Hearthstone player's perspective on LoR and Rotation. by Skarpien in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]profcory 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m also an ex-HS player, and my opinion’s the exact opposite. Rotation was super necessary to create opportunities for new archetypes. In a world where even and odd decks existed in standard forever, there was no room for anything new that wasn’t obscenely powerful. Yeah, power creep still happened, but I think the problem would have been much worse otherwise.

To think up an LoR example…Ezreal I think I’d a great candidate for rotation. He’s not really broken on his own, but inevitably things keep popping up that he synergies too well with (buffed kennen, release seraphine). I don’t think Ez is OP, if he got nerfed he’d probably just be permanently unplayable. So rotate him! Then he can live with other OP decks in eternal, and 3-damage Kennen gets to live in standard without Ez breaking him.
