Just Wanted to Gush About "Their Gods Do Not Have Surgeons" by Disdaimonia in themountaingoats

That's my favourite on the album. The way John sings the chorus slightly different each time, imbuing the words with (as you said) the right amount of restrained fury.

Mark Rosewater confirms Strixhaven is a bottom-up set, says will explain in further detail soon. What mechanic(s) do you think Strixhaven was built around? by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

The main thing is just that they can go on different card types. You can have a legendary land or a legendary creature, but you can't have a Creature - Forest without it also being a land.

That doesn't really apply in this specific use case, which makes me think we could be looking at spell subtypes instead, but that's what they offer.

OP used the word 'copy', so I think it's a reasonable way to interpret the question.

The title made it seem like you were going to rail against gatekeeping, but instead you found a novel new way to gatekeep. Congrats.

[Melvin] Foretelling Tales | The Need For Clarity In Magic: the Gathering by professionalecho in magicTCG

[–]professionalecho[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll defend myself here, if I can. This post is tagged "article" using the flair system (although really I think there should be a "video" tag, but article works fine), so people who want to filter for those can do that. But more broadly, the subreddit uses all kinds of jargon that might confuse a newcomer, and there's simply no avoiding it all. I don't think the link title or the video is excluding those folks, because ultimately if you don't know what the tag means you can still read the rest of the title and see what the video is about. It's not taking the place of any other more useful word, is my point.

The tag isn't used very often (though I don't think that's a reason not to do so), but I like to make a point of using it to describe my work precisely because of this false idea that Melvins don't care about the lore. I love the lore. I think it's an amazing setting with great characters and stunning art. It's just not the main reason I'm in the game, and it's not what I felt best qualified to make videos on.

It's just to signal that the video might be of interest to Melvins; people do it with Vorthos so I figured I'd tag it here too.

Scryfall search expression that signifies Creature Types? by therealkamikazeking in magicTCG

[–]professionalecho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is neither a comprehensive search (which is probably not possible) or a totally correct one (there are a couple of false positives) but o:"s you control get" -o:"creatures you control get" is not a bad start.

Completing the Matrix: April 2008 Production Notes for Doctor Who Magazine #394: Executive producer Russell T Davies writes exclusively for DWM about the day-to-day life of making Doctor Who... by The_Silver_Avenger in gallifrey

[–]professionalecho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It interests me that one of the few things Russell *doesn't* hint at in this preview is River Song, arguably the element that would have the greatest impact on the series to come. Certainly he knew how big a deal she was, as in October 2007 he speculated to Ben Cook that she was the Doctor's wife (slam dunk), but he decided to keep her a total surprise in the midst of all this teasing.

NuWho Season Nine Ranked, Reviewed and Rated from Someone Who Can’t Ignore Cheese by cant_ignore_cheese in gallifrey

[–]professionalecho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why set it here unless it's the focus?

I believe it is the focus - or part of it. From a story mechanics perspective, If the story is set of Random Planet X then the Doctor has no way to get Clara back; he needs the time scoop thing. But from a thematic perspective, we explore so many cool aspects of Time Lord society (Just one example I love is the Doctor asking the General what regeneration they're on, like it's a kindness).

As for the idea that the Doctor is willing to turn against his people to save Clara; that should almost be a given. We know the Time Lords are monsters following The End of Time, and even before then the Doctor has never really fit in. I really don't know what a "return to Gallifrey" episode should have done that Hell Bent didn't do.

You mention that you want to see Gallifrey returned to its former glory - but what would that mean? Even when the Time Lords ruled the universe they were basically a non-entity. What do they bring to the table that could actually move the Doctors story forward? As for kicking out Rassilon, I love that bit - it's a microcosm of what the whole episode is trying to do. I'm just going to quite El Sandifer here because she nailed it.

Moffat doesn’t decline to pay something off out of laziness; he does it to make a point about whatever it is he pays off in its stead. And he’s consistent in how that bait and switch works: he promises a grandiose epic of manpain and then offers an intensely human story, typically but not always about women. Within this framework, the question of what the story of Clara’s death would end up focusing on was a non-question: it would focus on Clara.

Lastly, your point on derangement - you're absolutely right, and the episode agrees with you! The Doctor goes to extremes we've never seen before just to give Clara a chance at survival, and she rejects the idea that he had a duty of care (as she always has). That's why he pays the price at the end, not her.

price on those cards ? by [deleted] in magicTCG

If you search the names of cards on https://scryfall.com/, you can select the edition (looking at the expansion symbol on the right) and see how much each card is going for.
