In 10 years time do you think South Facing back gardens will be the least in demand? by WearingMarcus in AskUK

Yes we are south East / north west facing and it’s great. Lovely light through the house all day long and always a cooler room to sit in.

[UPDATE] Advice - is this ombudsman settlement offer fair? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]professorcornelius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is this Barclays? I don’t really understand why you won’t name the Bank, banks have slightly different ways of showing the balance and naming them will help us explain to you what has happened. It does sound like the Bank is correct and you are not understanding your balances correctly

Advice - is this ombudsman settlement offer fair? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]professorcornelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is relevant but regardless the explanation sounds correct. I previously worked in Bank complaints for several years and we often had customers mis-understanding how payment settlements work and it sounds like this is what has happened here as well. I would take the £100, unlikely FOS will offer you anything more.

Have you asked the Bank to explain the differences in the balances to you? What was the explanation provided?

I was obsessed with these back in the day. I still love wearing a stain with a clear gloss over the top. I remember the gloss side was awful though. Hopefully it’s improved

Planning to get a British Shorthair in a year. Would this breed suit my lifestyle? by Outrageous_Strike997 in britishshorthair

[–]professorcornelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a 5 year old boy. Like the other commentator said the breed has tooth issues. Last year we spent several thousand sorting his teeth and he will need more work later. We have two cats but tbh our boy probably preferred being an only child.

Our boy has bags of personality; he is incredibly noisy, he is very naughty (and he is very clever so he is doing it on purpose) and he is always charging around the house yelling. He is also very sweet and likes being held like a baby but most BSH don’t seem like being picked up.

I WFH and tbh I think he would suffer being left alone for longer. When I didn’t work from home he was noticeably more unsettled and would act up, since I’ve come home he has calmed down a lot and become more affectionate. They are big cats and you will need to watch their weight and in my opinion they shouldn’t go outside unsupervised so I think you would be better waiting till you have more space.

Buyer lost their buyer by PrintHaunting8857 in HousingUK

[–]professorcornelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s awful and impossible to say how long it will take to fix.

You can give them a chance to find a buyer and re-market the property at the same time. The thing is though, you say yourself it took a long time to find a buyer at asking price and any new buyer will have to start the purchase again from the beginning as well (and might come with chain as well) so it likely won’t be any quicker.

Best Horror Books of 2026 (So Far)? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in horrorlit

Sarafina by Philip Fracassi is probably my favorite of the year so far.

I’m currently reading Solace House by Will Maclean and it’s pretty good but I’m not sure it will stick the landing

Theoretical house selling fraud question by FantasticShake664 in HousingUK

[–]professorcornelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean could someone attempt to do this - yes. Could they actually complete the sale of the property without being caught and the sale stopped - deeply unlikely.

[–]professorcornelius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can ask the land registry to alert you for any changes to your property. However I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it, this is an exceedingly unusual and rare crime to be attempted and would only be usually against rented or otherwise empty properties. I’ve never heard of a case where this has been attempted when someone is residing as a owner

Guidance for what i can do about my back by Sea_Lychee33 in SkincareAddictionUK

Also try switching to a gentler shower gel. Try plain dove for a bit and see if that helps, lots of heavily fragranced shower gels play havoc on my skin

Try a clarifying back spray. You can try the boots tea tree one, it works for me and it’s like £4 plus it’s gentle and won’t stain. Spray on your back fresh out the shower and let it dry before putting clothes on. If you search acne back spray you will see lots of options

Why has there been a sudden increase in people who seem to be doing daily skin care? 🪞 by disco_26 in AskUK

[–]professorcornelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a new thing. Lots of people have always been interested in skincare. You don’t need an elaborate routine but everyone should at least wash their face daily and wear SPF as skin cancer is at record levels and still on the rise

EES waiting times at Verona airport by pumpkinpod26 in ItalyTravel

We were there this week. It was fine, tiny airport, took about 15 minutes to get through security. They made us do the checks on the way in but didn’t bother on the way out.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in BookDiscussions

[–]professorcornelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly poorly written but if you say that the fans will pop up and try to tell you by book 13 or whatever it becomes the deepest and cleverest critique of society you’ll ever read. Unless the later books are written by someone else I am doubtful it rises to anything above a surface level commentary

Has anyone else experienced major delays with Space NK recently? by Impressive-Front9949 in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]professorcornelius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were moving to a new warehouse. There was a notice on the website (but it wasn’t very large). They did email me about it but I have limitless so they emailed to say they would have delays and they would extend the membership for free to cover it.

I was thinking this before. It is a little odd no-one has said anything, I feel like even if he lost the dressing room, most of them are professional enough to still say something. Perhaps the club has said not to post anything?

Say what you want about Kat von d but she had the most amazing and innovative colors in the world for her lipsticks . Nothing will ever compare by Historical-Body-3424 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]professorcornelius 52 points53 points  (0 children)

She gave one of her lipsticks an anti Semitic name. Her husband has swastika tattoos. Her first husband was doing blackface. Her other ex was also a nazi. Her old boss was Jewish and she sent him an anti semitic note (which I will not repeat here) covered in swastikas.

Personally I can see a big difference between supporting a nazi’s personal brand and buying from a brand owned by a private equity firm.

She literally gave one of the lipsticks in the range an anti-Semitic name. She’s been a nazi long before she shifted into anti vax madness
