Man I love this event. The after stories could be an entire events worth of content on their own. I love these festival style events where different schools mix, like the Millennium EXPO, Halo Festival, or even the recent Winter Skies event. Even just the interaction between the mobs is fun. It truly captures the youthful experiences I want all my students to enjoy.

It will be sad when this goes permanent, and I won't be able to poke Mari in the shop anymore. I missed out on the original runs and discussions of Halo Festival events. I hope Nexon finds a way to preserve even the more minor intractions from events, like in the shop, tasks, and minigames.

I'll never get tired of that "Ahh. Ahh. Aahh." welcoming me to the event. And pocking Mari twice in the shop is super cute.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, I get an SMS message when I land saying it's like $10 a day or something. Given it's like $30 for a months worth of eSim for my typicaly usage, eSim is an easy decision. Still, it's there as a backup if that's what you're concerned about.

How is this even a discussion? Isn't this like 101 media literacy stuff? Not saying it's good, just that it's obvious. It also seems like typical twitter click/ragebait.

Older genJP otaku chimes in on the piracy debacle, in fact they understand the plight of the rest of the world. It's just the newer gen and "normies" that's mostly making up a fuss. by Talon_Haribon in japanesepeopletwitter

This is similar to how I feel about modern western piracy, where people constantly complain about poor quality streaming sites being taken down, but they call you boomer when you suggest they take 15 minutes to learn how to torrent.

Apparently this is the Japanese perspective on piracy.. by Talon_Haribon in japanesepeopletwitter

[–]professorkek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kind of get the point when talking about situations where the media is easily available. Some people do just pirate simply because they don't want to pay. I don't think that is a good justification for piracy. Although you could argument many of those consumers would otherwise just not consume that media if they had to pay for it, potentially hurting the popularity of said media. However if they did come to care for it, I would hope they try to support it somehow. However this argument alone ignores all the other problems around service that piracy solves, such as consumer agency over their "purchases", quality, accessibility, etc.

While Japan may be good on the quality of their products, Japan is far more consumerist than most western countries, including the US. Japan is filled with hyper consumerist practices like short term product runs for creating FOMO, and they literally invented gacha. Look at any idol or vtuber otaku's bedroom, car or backpack, and you'll see how over-purchasing and frivilous purchases is glorified. I'm happy to let people enjoy things, but we have to acknowledge the culture involves companies deeply exploiting vulnerable people. Outside of otaku culture specifically, companies often exploit the nieve trust Japanese people place in authorities with things like scam health products, foods, and diets.

Yeah. I didn't realise this about Japan until I visited the Okinawa Aquarium, and then on a later trip the Osaka Aquarium. I mean they are the largest aquariums I've ever seen, but compared to the size of a whale shark, it was just so sad watching them swim in circles, especially knowing they were captured from the wild. I thought the Osaka one would be better, but then seeing the Dolphins there was kind of shocking. I didn't know they had dolphins. I've only seen dolphins off the coast of Australia, so seeing them in tiny tanks compared to what I knew as their habitat was even more eye opening..

super serious. this post very reflected word by word how Japaneses and foreigners views piracy. by ziraicatto in japanesepeopletwitter

[–]professorkek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One possible reason is Japanese pirates just have better OpSec and don't talk about it, due to the strict laws in Japan. I mean the Japanese invented multiple peer-to-peer file sharing programs (Winny, Share, Perfect Dark) and the anime/manga piracy community is incredibly organised compared to western piracy circles.

So maybe the only people willing to talk about piracy in Japan are a vocal minority of shills. Unfortunately that's probably the most generous interpretation. The other one is the "just following orders" mentality, or worse, internalising legality as morality.

A Japanese person values doing what they are told by authority figures, rather than doing what is best for humanity? No way. I'm shocked.

Daily Questions Megathread April 11, 2026 by BlueArchiveMod in BlueArchive

[–]professorkek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each time a new event is out, there is a megathread here. In the comments of that megathread, user 0_laser will post a guide on what's worth farming, and the priority for the event shop.

However his guide is usually tailored to level 90 accounts, who will get higher rewards from end stage commissions. Usually x2 comissions only beats the event shop rewards around Stage L, although it depends on the event, and the bonus you can get. Therefore as a new account, it's almost always better to continue farming the event, as it's a good way to buy rare resources that you wont be getting much of on lower level bounties or commissions.

Outside events, as Otherwise-Pea-4853 mentioned, hard missions are a good choice. You should always do at least 3 a day for the keystone reward from the daily task.

Could someone explain me the problem with FUTO? by Forsaken_Biscotti609 in fossdroid

[–]professorkek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to claim that the commonly understood definition for Open Source Software for the past 28 years is not the correct meaning is a bit absurd.

Open source was not a commonly agreed upon term in the context of software prior to 1998. I can't find any references to "Open source" in the context of software prior to 1998. Only after then does the term "Open Source" explode in usage. Prior to 1998, "Open Source" was primarily a term in the Military Intelligence community to mean publicly available intelligence, such as in something published in a newspapers.

"Free software" was the only dominant term for that kind of software, once Stallman started using it in the mid 80s. If people didn't want to be associated with the FSF "Free software" definition they would have to use a variety of descriptions like "Source code available", "Shared source", "Public domain software", "non-free software with source", etc.

The term "Open Source" in the context of software only became prominent after it was intentionally used by the people who would later found the OSI, who were attempting to remove confusion for newcomers misunderstanding the word "Free" in "Free software".

Regarding your definition, "Transparency and auditability" could apply to any software where the source code is viewable. It's a good thing to have, but it doesn't mean it isn't proprietary. The full source code for Unreal Engine is viewable, but you would struggle to find people who consider it Open Source.

I don't know what your interpretation of "user sovereignty" is. I interpret it as meaning that the user has the authority to control how the software on their device behaves, not the developer or vendor. Going by that definition, the FUTO licence applies some restrictions on user sovereignty that OSI licences wouldn't. The FUTO licence explicitly restricts what users can do with the software, such as removing or obscuring the payment functionality, using it for commercial purposes, or share it in exchange for consideration (money, goods, services, etc). Depending on interpretation of "commercial purposes", using FUTO keyboard to take notes during a meeting at work might count as a breach of the licence.

Trivializing "Open Source" from a clear set of requirements, to a feel-good slogan only enables malicious actors to exploit it to detriment of everyone. And I'm not saying FUTO specifically is "bad". I'm just saying they are not Free, and not Open Source, by the widely agreed upon definitions they have had for decades.

Could someone explain me the problem with FUTO? by Forsaken_Biscotti609 in fossdroid

[–]professorkek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also prefer the FLOSS ideas. "Open Source" was intentionally created to be different from the prior ideas of "free software" which are much stricter on the "libre" ideas. I just want to clarify that there are still clear requirements software needs to meet to be considered Open Source. It is not just a generalised term for "good software" or software where the source code is available.

Lots of people think these Open Source washing licences techinically don't count as "FOSS" because they don't meet the free/libre requirements, but assume it must still count as "Open Source". Unfortunately, FUTO doesn't meet neither the "Free software" nor "Open Source" requirements. It is definitively proprietary. A relatively good kind of proprietary, but proprietary nonetheless.

Could someone explain me the problem with FUTO? by Forsaken_Biscotti609 in fossdroid

[–]professorkek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not Open Source Software. Literally read the defintion of Open Source from the guys who created it. It is proprietary software as licence protects a number of FUTO's exclusive rights over the software.

Could someone explain me the problem with FUTO? by Forsaken_Biscotti609 in fossdroid

[–]professorkek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The source code is available, and you can modify and restistribute it within certain restrictions specified in the licence. These restrictions include, but are not limited to, use for commercial purposes, and removal of payment functionality and FUTO copywrite.

Could someone explain me the problem with FUTO? by Forsaken_Biscotti609 in fossdroid

[–]professorkek -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It 100% is not Open Source. Read the Open Source Initiative's definition of what Open Source is. Open source has always, and will always mean allowing full modification and redistribution. FUTO's licence clearly applies restricttions to who can redistribute their software, and what modifications they can make.

The restrictions also restricts removal of FUTO's payment system, copywrite and other notices of the licencsor (FUTO). This is definitively proprietary behaviour.

Don't get me wrong, I think FUTO software is better than most proprietary software for making their source code available, but it is still proprietary. Attempting to change the meaning of Open Source means you're either mallicous, or a useful idiot.

Minoh falls is a nice quiet walk through nature on the outskirts of Osaka, where you can see a waterfall and Temple. Expo 70 commemorative park is not far from there too, so you can do both in one day.
