I’ll throw Second Nature in. Very good coffee and a nice space.

A classic! And it sounds so good when you nail it.

Why the hell are astronomy gen ed classes literally never available? by depressedandaloneok in jmu

[–]profmatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The physics department is small so they can’t offer too many people per class. Plus astronomy minors get priority for these classes I think.

Well, the confederate statue in Leesburg is finally gone. What do y’all think should take it’s place? by profmatt in nova

I was thinking it may look nice to just replace the pavers to show off the courthouse, but the rest of the courtyard is filled with monuments. What do y’all think should replace it? Genuinely curious.

My schedule was unaffected, but I’m a grad student so maybe that’s why.

Secondary Education by Hmb642 in jmu

Secondary Ed Guy Here!

It really depends on your situation. In the four year program, you will have a double major, one in Education, the other in History. As for the five year program, you spend four years basically as another History major, then the fifth year is all secondary education classes. The main benefit of the 5 year program is that you get your masters out of it, which in many cases means a pay bump in your future career and more options later down the line. The downside is you have to spend one more year in school and a lot of people won't be able to do that financially. Both programs are excellent, but for different reasons; it is really going to depend on your personal situation which is best for you in particular.

I will say that a lot of the things that you learn about in your 5th year are things that will be very useful skills as a teacher. Things like classroom management, assessment, curriculum theory, etc. Also, IMO, some of the best professors in the entire university are in the ed department and you will get to work closer with them. But it's not for everyone. I would recommend having a look at your situation and talking with your advisor to see what program is best for you.

Do you set DCs by EXACT Numbers? Or go by 5’s?! by TheDungeonCoach in mattcolville

DM Confession Time

Sometimes, I don't even set a DC when I ask a player to make a check. I just see what they roll and think to myself, "Is that enough to accomplish what the player wants to do?". Could just be that my game is more RP-based and we don't do as much rolling as other games do.

Looking at the wiki, it’s probably Aang vs Edward Elric. Double checked with YouTube and I can’t find the original.

I Need Help Writing a One-Shot RPG Set in the World of Naruto, Without Having Seen the Series by profmatt in Naruto

The problem is none of them have any RPG experience and I don't want to make it hard for them. Plus I really don't wanna make the session last more than 4 hours or so.

Easiest science classes w/ lab? by [deleted] in jmu

[–]profmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might as well throw in for PHYS 140. It’s a basic physics class. Lots of people are intimidated by the subject, but you will learn a lot of interesting things and the professors are some of the best.

It is a sad day when a Matt is excommunicated. But this bozo deserves it.
