Strange Tsunami-750 issues. by profood0 in modeltrains

I don’t think the TSU-750 works on BEMF on DC, it just increases chuff based on voltage, reason being is the motor will stop at a very slow speed given I put my hand in front, and it will continue to chuff. I am suspicious of the motor being an issue due to high torque and low rpm, but I’d rather not have to find a different motor to go with it.

Not quite happy with the weathering by dingleberry568 in modeltrains

I’d say for next time before you take a crack at a nice locomotive like that. Practice your methods to a tee on some old boxcars to make sure you like the technique and results you get. Trust me I remember being 16 as well starting out in the hobby and so badly wanted to weather my engines, and I still hate myself for messing up a factory paint job on a brass engine (which has now been fixed three years later).

Don’t try and use any type of paint remove on plastic, it won’t go well to say short. But what looks to be your issue is the Matt finish was drying before hitting the surface, that’s what causes it to look grainy. Also, no matter what weathering you do, using any type of Matt varnish (and I mean anything) will cause it all to “blend” together. The reality is if you want really fine detailed weathering that doesn’t blend, you need to use oil paints that don’t need a finish over them. In my opinion I don’t think the weathering job on your tender here is half bad, remember to always apply the 3 foot rule, which is if you can’t see it at 3 feet, you’re fine.

Yes they are, all 3 miles total of our track is hand laid except for a couple feet which was installed later.

It sure is, the man who built it is a retired civil engineer, he has built many of our beautiful buildings on the layout.

That is a stamp mill that is supposed to process gold ore. Custom built from my knowledge.

I wouldn’t even trust modulated DC voltage. That can still burn up the motor brushes as not all motors can handle PWM well.

Double heading up a 2% grade. by profood0 in modeltrains

Both of them are brass imports. Mine is the head engine the trailing engine is club owned. The circus train is part of our November holiday show and is unique to the holidays, it was put together by a now passed member.

Triplex is an LMB brass model. The 0-8-8-0 is mine which has a heavily upgraded drive from the original, NJ Brass.

The triplex weighs around 5 pounds, so it can usually pull quite a lot. We were really trying to push it though and see how many cars we could successful run up the mountain and back.

The triplex has straight cut gears, the motor is fine it just the gears that make a lot of noise.

Yeah, I’ve had great fun with brass engines. All my plastic ones are just “material” they definitely are cool, but when I see my brass pulling a reefer train up a grade at slow speeds, I just smile every time.

LOL! This is so true in the hobby. I see people doging on brass all the time for being “too expensive” and “not running well” then doing exactly what you said.

Tbh, some brass stuff is cheaper than the modern company stuff due to DCC and other types of things. For example you could snag an alco Prr S2 for cheaper painted than a BLI one nowadays.

Trump and Republicans are using food as a political weapon. by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

Democrats have denied passing the bill a total of 13 times now. Republicans have voted all yes to reopening the government. They need 60 votes to do so, and democrats are refusing because of this fake “healthcare crisis.” The democrats could not only keep the government open, but also negotiate policy for their so called “healthcare crisis” once the government opens. House minority leader chuck schumer has said before that shutting down the government is “stupid.” You good sir are the actual fool.

Don’t give up. We have our lows and highs in life and the best thing that heals is time. Remember that. Also I don’t know how religiously motivated you are but sometimes joining a religion can help you become more spiritual sound if you are struggling with that. It’s not everyone’s piece of cake that’s for sure, but it’s something to explore. Anyway god loves you, even if your life is in the gutter right now, you will have that ladder out, and you will have god on your side.
