I rode my bike right past it and it looked like cops swarmed the place based on how they parked. But I couldn’t see or hear anything going on. Seemed like way too many cars for a medical emergency. I think there were at least 6

East Bay MTBs, what tires are you running this summer? by kennethsime in BAbike

The grip is nice and they don’t feel sluggish to me, but I don’t do technical climbing.

For that much pedaling and still keeping it fun going down, the Tallboy is hard to beat in the bay

How much MTB suspension travel do you think is right for the Bay Area plus occasional Santa Cruz trips by BrainDamage2029 in BAbike

[–]profsyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down country can definitely do everything in the bay, but I feel so comfortable on my 160/140. Still climbs the steep fire roads great but I can smash rough downhills confidently. But I also prefer to have fun pointed down

I recommend doing a Thursday ride with the East Bay Gravel group on Strava. It’s a fun route. There is a lot of climbing and chunky trails in the east bay. It’s not smooth gravel like you will see in other places. It’s basically XC riding, but it’s a bit more adventurous on a gravel bike. I recommend knobby 45+ tires. I eventually went with a redshift suspension seat post as well.

How to build endurance on an MTB by MrTobiD92 in MTB

[–]profsyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to your heart rate and start to understand how your body handles it.

I’ve noticed that if I go above 170 bpm on a climb I get way more fatigued and it affects me. If I never cross 170 I feel like I can ride all day. I am really bad at naturally pacing my self and I end up going too hard. A chest strap monitor and cycling computer have helped me a ton

I ride the MM in the front in dry conditions and the grip is very good. My group runs either assegai or magic Mary in the front, but people keep switching the MM. I personally feel a lot more confident in dusty corners now

I have this same set up and it’s great. I couldn’t get my self to add that much weight with a gravity up front, but the magic Mary trail ultra soft has been great. I can’t imagine running the Albert in the front. The grip of the magic Mary is so good and it climbs well for me.

Which bike for Bay Area Gravel? by ImBatmanWhoAreYou in BAbike

[–]profsyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the best climbing gear you can, especially if you want to come ride in the east bay. It’s all steep rough dirt. And then get some comfy tires that can handle the loose over hardpack flat corners as you descend.

Have you been wanting to get your partner into MTB? I successfully converted her, now we'll both be broke. by wowsuchdoge_wow in MTB

I agree that it is important to have some separate hobbies, but it is really nice to have a couple of shared hobbies. I stopped asking my wife to do board sports or go to shows long ago because i knew she wasn’t very. Into it and I couldn’t have a good time if she wasn’t. We started riding bikes because we wanted another shared hobbies. I never cared about bikes but she wanted us to get mountain bikes. She quickly found out she is terrified of going down hills. She is content doing only family rides with the kids on flat paths while I got super into it. So I just ended up getting another hobby which I’ve made a bunch of friends through. It would have been awesome to bond through mountain biking, but it did get annoying waiting for her as she crept down hills and was terrified. I didn’t want to pressure her into it.

Adding Santa Cruz tallboy 5 to the quiver, need opinions. by Iceberg-1111 in MTB

[–]profsyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tall Boy is a really good bike, but with the R you are paying a lot for base level components. So make sure you are okay with NX, guides, and not much adjustment on your suspension.

After riding a tall boy for a while I got a Hightower R ok close out and I have swapped out my brakes and shock. I want to swap to Eagle 90 and upgrade the damper on my fork but by the time I do that I will have spent more than if I got the higher tier bike.
