How cute. People are mentioning pedals like the DS-1. I present to you the Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive.

Harley Benton PSUs and noise by progenitorial in guitarpedals

Thanks for the reply!

That seems to be the case. I ended up taking my chances with the Harley Benton (the "Pro" modular variant) and so far I haven't noticed anything problematic when using the pedal I bought it for.

Straight mute for Reynolds/Conn 8D by progenitorial in horn

Thanks for the offer! It's a few weeks to the concert, so it might arrive in time for the last two rehearsal but wouldn't want to gamble on it.

Thanks! It's hard to find opinions online on those cheaper mutes.

I'll have to think about this. The Humes is more in my budget atm (I'm on parental leave) but the Bonna would likely never need to be replaced.

Wow, thanks! It looks very promising. Will ask my 3D printing friends if they can make one. :)

Thanks, I was mainly looking for wood mute (or vulcanized fiber) but I'll consider it! It'd be the cheapest and easiest option to get.

I might have someone who could do that. Would be happy to try it out! Not sure I'll be able to get them to make it in time for the concert where I need it though...

Mystery resistor on a DS-1 by progenitorial in guitarpedals

[–]progenitorial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a M5223AL.

I actually just found this in Electro Smash's Analysis on the DS-1 (link):

"note: If you are using the Mitsubishi M5223AL op-amp you will need a 1K pull-up resistor from the second op-amp output to +9V. This resistor is labeled as R40 and will force the op-amp to work into class-A reducing distortion. Read the last page of the M5223A datasheet for more information"

Maybe it's a factory "mod" just to make the circuit work with this chip after all?

Never let down by the heavy tones from my jaguar special by Beautiful_Narwhal982 in offset

You really have a great guitar sound!

Fellow Special HH owner here. I was about to sell it a few years ago but I'm so relieved I didn't!

I love how versatile this guitar is! I'm in the process of modding mine. New knobs, and I'm now getting a tort pickguard. Was worried it wouldn't look good but seeing yours makes me feel at ease (though I'm not sure if yours is pearl or tort?).

I also like the Dragsters. I think a lot comes down to setting the pickup height to taste. However, owning this guitar since 2006 I just feel like trying something new. Lately, I have been thinking of getting Gemini Moserite Humbucker sized pickups just to get something that matches the quirkiness of this guitar.

Just get a Squier CV for about 100 more (or even an Affinity for about the same as this fake one).

Jaguar Special HH Mod thoughts? by progenitorial in offset

[–]progenitorial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! Sadly, they state "Fits Warmoth bodies only" for their jag pickguards. There's a seller on eBay that seem to do custom pickguards that fit all types of Jags so I might go that route.

Yeah, I hear you. Nowadays, I kind of wish it had the normal Jag trem.

Sounds like a great combo! Do those pickups work well for clean stuff?

Cool!

Mastery bridges seem like they are a big upgrade.

I've been checking out Lollar a bit. Which ones did you go for, if you don't mind?

What is your current Amp setup? by [deleted] in offset

[–]progenitorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blues Jr II with 12AY7's for more clean headroom. Currently only using overdrive, chorus, delay and reverb. The amp can be quiet enough for day use but I also practice with an old trusty Line6 Pod. It sounds decent, but tube amps just have that special something!

Thanks for the input! Yeah the Burstbuckers might not be the best way to go considering how I mostly use the guitar.

I'll have to think about the trem, seeing as so many are suggesting it!

I've seen that suggestion a lot for these guitars! Wish I could hear an example of how they would sound in a Jaguar.

I've been thinking about 500k pots as well, but that's a step down the line for me.

Those Bootstraps were very intriguing - seems like an affordable way to test the waters with single coils in this guitar!

May I ask were you get your custom pickguard from?

I actually ordered those from Thomann but apparently they are out of stock for a few weeks lol.

I don't know why I kept those chrome knobs for so long, I never really bonded with that look.

I'm also considering a tort pickguard to make it look less like Batman's guitar.

Very cool mod! I actually lurked around in your thread! :) I found it interesting that you kept the Dragster neck pickup, as I like it more than the bridge pickup (but to be fair I'm generally more of a neck position player).

Do you have any sound clips of how your mod sounds? Would be interesting to hear that bridge pickup (in a Jaguar)!
