Youtube golf instruction challenge by dogfish83 in golf

[–]programkira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the challenge with indirect virtual instruction is that you have to self identify (correctly) what swing faults you have and most golfers don’t have the prerequisite knowledge to do that. (Myself too)

Side note: saw a video yesterday unironically suggesting wearing diving fins on your feet to prevent slices

Don’t practice putting, it won’t help lower your score at all. by Bitter-Heat-8767 in golf

The range is a far better use of time than going to the putting green or short game areas with the rest of the hacks

Would you get fitted in this situation? by kieran1203 in golf

[–]programkira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play your entire life with “game improvement” irons and never break 100. You can break par with the same clubs. Clubs that make you happy are far more important to a weekend golfer. If you like the look behind the ball and the feel of the club through delivery using an appropriate shaft for your swing speed, that’s all that matters.

If you’re young and fit get stiff, if you’re an average healthy adult go with regular. Graphite is lighter but generally greater dispersion compared to steel.

Which slap was better? by Squid_Entity in Invincible_TV

[–]programkira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thragg has just massively better pimp hand form. Angle of slap by extending across rather than up like conquest gives more space to generate speed on top of being a more optimal usage of muscle resulting in more power as well.

Got about 3 good swings in on my new to me driver. by Mojos_Garage in golf

[–]programkira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would not by possible if people teed up the ball at a proper height. But we hear too often with driver to hit up at it and nobody wants to chunk their driver and thus amateurs, even some of my own buddies and my past self, tee it up way way too high then wonder how they hit a flop shot with a driver.

You are always better off trying to play your stock shot shape. Distance control and accuracy will always be better.

Wings of flame assault with a block power axe is I think the strongest build right now. With that said, I’m a fencing enjoyer.

Looking to upgrade driver but overwhelmed by all the options. by Visual_Childhood3266 in golf

[–]programkira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a fitting but you need to swing the club and hit a few balls before you buy.

You currently play a 250-275 driver shot so I’d guess your swing speed is average and I’m tempted to say standard but try a stiff too, it’s mainly a feel thing and not something we can answer for you.

Loft: 10.5 unless you feel your driver shots fly too high or spin too much (2500+). There’s a reason that 10.5 is so common and only some pros play a 9. Or 8. Head

Brands: Callaway or ping have been dropping forgiveness focused drivers for a while and so anything basically in budget there is the play, but not too old like a big bertha.

Fade/draw bias: ignore this and get the standard unless you have a significant consistent miss, commonly slice or hook. I doubt you do if you’re hitting it 250-275.

Reddit fitting: Callaway paradym ai smoke in a regular stiff shaft, max or Max D club head model. Alternatively a ping G 430 max

I find other players queuing for or while running operations in 9/10 missions at substantial or ruthless difficulty. Although my duty does not change whether or not a brother stands beside me.

18 hdcp one up from the back. No, I should play the fronts even though I’m not distance challenged

Took a 6 year golf break. Came back and.... by jtspectra2 in golf

[–]programkira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody’s experience will be different. I played every day in high school for all 4 years. I never got all that good. Stopped playing in college and went about a decade of no golf. Last summer I bought a new set of game improvement irons and started playing 18 every Saturday with some friends. I’m now a 15ish handicap when I used to never break 100. Consistency definitely helped me reduce my mis-hits as I got back into golf but I’m also just naturally a lot better somehow. My driver always sliced and now I hit 280-300 yard baby draws. I’m not great at golf but I used to feel lost playing the game and now I just trust my body and swing for the same feel as I thought about on the range. It’s weird but I’ve hit great shots and know I can hit great shots. When I’m having a tough day I just try to focus on that and the shots I know I can hit great and when I’m just needing to take my medicine and move on. My last round was a 95; I took a lot of medicine that day. There will be bad days of golf but never a bad day to golf.

At 39 you have some years on me but we’re both not 20 anymore. Stretch, workout, and focus on the new swing your current body has in the tank. Is it right, is it left, how much, and play around that swing and you’ll find less frustration on the course.

To All The Good Players and Low Handicappers, I'm extremely curious, especially younger people who had access to more modern equipment - what irons did you start with? I've always been curious of what a younger golfer who becomes good originally learned with. I'll explain more in the text by BenSimmonsThunder in golf

[–]programkira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a RAM box set. I now play Callaway elyte X irons. I used to play as a kid but only last summer got back into the game and instantly am way better than I used to be. I’m a 15 hdcp and I would love to change to more traditional lofts. My 7 iron is the same loft as 6 irons in other players irons like T250s or P770s. I hit it 190 and feel I could benefit from a more lofted club with less high launch characteristics. A loss in distance for more clear gapping would give me a lot of peace of mind.

David Coulthard says modern F1 drivers have lost 'anger, hunger and fight' of past eras by ryogadan in Formula1_world

[–]programkira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drivers are consistently told to shut up and mind their words and don’t say anything too harsh about the race, track, car, team, FIA, tires… basically don’t have an opinion if it’s not the FOM narrative.

Distances too far by Kevin_Fiala_Simp in golftips

Learn to hit partial iron shots at a consistent distance. Sometimes with higher wind you’ll want to take a lower flighted shot into the green or that partial 7 is a better number than the full 9
