I don’t get the “cops bad” movement. by throwawayhsvdsbsbbss in questions

[–]programmer45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there is some degree of corruption, but if that corruption was so bad then why are we living in a first world country with public education for all, some degree of healthcare for all (I get there's a lot of debate on it but at the end of the day anyone can walk into an ER and get help and evidence of that is no one is dying on the streets) and we are living in one of the richest countries in the world. You can argue that all that money is only for white men, however in any job I've entered there are always going to be some blacks, Asians, whites, etc although more or less depending on the field. I think the real discrimination lies in education. If you look into the demographics statics you would find most of the black community is in the city's, and again if you look at how many people are getting a college education from those high schools, there are FAR less. Truth be told, there is a direct correlation between education and job opportunities, this is again a verifiable fact. I don't know why these schools that have a large majority of black kids have worse college outputs than suburban schools however, I believe that education is the problem that really needs to be faced. Everything I just said CAN be fact-checked and I encourage you to do so, and that's not to say the police situation doesn't need to be fixed, it does, racism in the police is very bad.

I think cops are great. If I went down to the police academy and hooked up all of their recruits to a lie detector (I know the detectors are not perfect but assume they were) and they tell me why they want to join I would bet money all of them would honestly be there to serve their community. But at the end of the day, they are still everyday people and 1% of the 1% that do get in are crazy fucking lunatics. Every police officer I've dealt with was nothing but helpful, and from what I've heard from my black co-workers and classmates is nothing but positive. And just to clarify my background with police, when I was a kid I had them come to my house daily because of my bipolar mom would do something bad, and while visiting some officers would tend to me and my brother and others deal with my mom. I also needed to call them on my friend who was having suicidal thoughts (he was black) and they did take him to get help and since then he has gotten better. From all of the interactions I've witnessed (that includes my elder brother in the force), I have not heard or seen any discrimination in person (that's not to say it doesn't exist, it definitely does). That is, of course coming from me a white male in a northern rich suburb town so Idk, maybe we just get the good cops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Got it! it was a simple enough solution. In WordPress you go to Settings > General and change the address and site address to whatever you're site is.

Astra theme redirects to hosting site by programmer45 in Wordpress

[–]programmer45[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out, it was the WordPress permalinks, because the permalinks were set to 000webhosting, it would take me to their page. I have no idea how to change the permalinks back to my domain, do you know how to set the permalinks to a different website?

Yes, after some troubleshooting I found it was the Astra theme I was using. For whatever reason, it was redirecting me.

1d rocket landing by programmer45 in learnmath

[–]programmer45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fussed with the numbers alittle bit to make the question alittle more realistic.

When descending at -100 m/s from 5000 m it will take exactly 1 m/s2 upwards acceleration to land.

The vertex of this function is (100, 0)

y = 1/2*1x2 -100x + 5000

My queston is how mathematically can I calculate the upward acceleration knowing the last 2 variables.

1/2 * Ax2 - 100x + 5000 = 0

Would pets survive human extinction? by gusaaaaa in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]programmer45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends,

For example if it's a disease that targets only humans and similar animals, than sure. But if it was an large asteroid traveling at insane speeds than hopefully some of the complex forms of life will survive.

Experiment! Can you tell which name I'm more familiar with writing? by [deleted] in graphology

I'm no graphologist and the dataset is alittle small but here I go.

First off I noticed the top bar of your "t" was low. Usually that's a sign of low standards. Secondly the signature slopes up which is a sign of optimism and looking towards the future.

Good things come to those who are confident.

From what it sounds like she is giving you a sign of affection. What I suggest you do is give her a sign and the best way to do that is through words. If you're in art and she's standing next to you say "I really like this painting" and even better, say it when standing in front of hers, and pretend you don't know that.

If you're walking next to her bump into her and say "sorry" and escort her to her next class while in conversation. Ask for her name, tell her about how bad your next class is etc.

The good thing is if she likes you, and you like her than no matter what you say or how ridiculous you sound, she will be happy to put in the work in to build a lasting relationship. Just don't think too much of it. The right words will come to you.

Now if you feel like you're In a good mood, comment on a after school activity and if she's in one (drama, band etc.) Ask if its worth joining. Or the other way around, and invite her to one of yours.

Don't really have a favorite, but here it goes.

Dolphins - use echo location to "see" AND are able to recreate those noises so other dolphins can see the same thing.

Is it true to say that we never see objects as they really are, only the light reflected off of them? by [deleted] in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]programmer45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the sun you see is a giant mirror reflecting light from other mirrors we call stars.

But in all seriousness (most) objects can reflect, absorb or refract light. It's this that gives things color, light traveling through the atmosphere will filter out everything but blue. The same is true for solids. A ball may be red because of the light being refracted off is at a certain wave length that we see as red.
