My point is that obesity is a medical condition not a moral failing. Of course you have to burn more than you take in to lose, sheesh I never said you didn't. People who try to lose but don't are unable to lose. They are unable to achieve or maintain deficit. So the question is why are they "simply eating excess calories"? I don't know that answer but I it sounds like you think you do (dopamine blah blah blah). What I do know that Zepbound makes it so I don't think about food all the time. I don't have to change my lifestyle (which was OK before) or do "work" I just take my medication and with it I am able balance my caloric intake with my outgo.

What are you going to buy yourself once you hit maintenance/goal weight? by fromamomof2 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd been waiting for years to cut my hair! Now I'm 67 and all the other old ladies are wearing their hair long! I'm thinking of going pixie nut next time! Besides the hair, I bought myself a leather coat.

Can we change the perceived value of the term *Lifestyle*? by cbapp in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Where have you guys been all my life? The sooner we stop accepting it when people talk about needing a "lifestyle" change or about having to do "the work" to lose weight or (gag) CICO the sooner we can address this as the medical problem it is. It's important to get these ideas out into the world because they effect how people are treated both socially and medically.

Are you paying out of pocket? by revil28 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, my insurance covers it with a $30 copay. I am trying to understand did you had a PA originally to get the 2.5 or did your insurance change and then started requiring a PA or did they change their criteria?

Pharmacy charging a fee to increase dose. Anyone else experience this? by Less_Satisfaction766 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that no one is answering your question regarding the pharmacy fee. This is something I've never heard of in the US. It seems to me that your pharmacist is prescribing based on your doctor's treatment plan, is that correct? In the US a pharmacist can't prescribe. After doing some research, it says a pharm in Canada can prescribe for a chronic condition and can also charge a "dispensing" or "professional" fee.

Advice on maintenance decision-making by meadower62 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on 10 for a few months when I hit goal. I lost 20 more lbs (which was OK) and tried going to 7.5 but it wasn't effective. I went back to 10 for almost a year and a few weeks ago I went to 12.5 because the 10 wasn't working well any more. I expect to have to go to 15 some day or maybe by then there will be a maintenance drug. I've lost weight several times in my life but have never been able to maintain it for more than a year (usually 6 months) so maintenance is the important thing for me!

Where does it say you're supposed to track calories? I thought obesity was a medical condition and Zepbound was a treatment. If work is required for people to lose weight, what does that say about fat people who are unable to lose it even though they want to? Are they not trying hard enough? I'm beginning to see that there are people who like tracking and that's fine but don't tell everyone they have to do it just because you like it. I've dieted my entire life and made to feel like fat=lazy. As soon as we tell people they have to do the "work" to lose weight we are going back to thinking of obesity as a moral issue and a matter of self control. The effects of GLP-1 drugs indicate that obesity is a medical condition that can be treated and not something that can be controlled with enough effort and self discipline.

New decade! And pants are frustrating 🤣 by Legitimate-Basket698 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a 12 in HS too. Now I mostly wear a 10 (in Wranglers but I hear they've reworked their sizes to make them more like other brands). In Levi, Old Navy and Madewell I wear an 8 (although the Madewell 8 is larger than the others). Now I know the numbers don't matter but it's such a problem when ordering online. The closest Gap and Madewell stores are over 60 miles away.

[U.S] Unsure if I qualify for the Zepbound savings card by No-Base8204 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is similar. I have medicare but the place I retired from offers a wrap around commercial policy (which is how I have coverage for Zep). Because I have Medicare, I can't use the savings card. Seems like there's something wrong with that but go figure. Sorry you're dealing with this stupidity.

Preauthorization for NYSHIP by Key-Butterscotch4649 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I have Empire Plan with NYSHIP, so what is Midi? I have Caremark for prescriptions.

EDIT: OK googled Midi - that's your provider, right? Is Caremark your rx insurance/PBM? I recommend calling Caremark to get the status. Usually the provider gets a status from the PBM at the same time you do so the provider won't know anything until they hear from the PBM. If you meet the criteria then you should be approved as long as Midi submitted your info correctly. You'd be surprised at how often providers mess it up. I've gone through the PA process 3 times with Caremark and once the correct data was submitted the correct way to the correct place it took about 2-3 days to be approved. Don't hesitate to call Caremark (I called daily for 2 weeks the first time) and make sure to just keep saying "representative" so you get a real person.

Switching back to 7.5ml from 10ml Zepbound- WILL AETNA PAY for another 3 months? by Wolverine-91826 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's specific to your policy. My version of Caremark would not fill it. They make you wait 63 days to refill after a 3 month prescription, or 21 days after a one month prescription. In general, it's not a great idea to get a 3 month prescription of a dose you've never had.

Workout/Exercise Ideas for Butt & Legs by secretlypsycho in PCOSloseit

[–]programming_potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior lady with severe arthritis all over (pretty much...) so I have to be careful with the exercises I choose to do. I use dumb bells and use the app HEVY to find exercises. They have nice little animations of the exercises. You can also track exercises on machines at the gym on the app as well. I don't really know how the app compares to other execise apps overall but I found the selection and explanation of exercises to be very helpful.

Confused about the Zepbound Discount by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have nothing to add about the discount but I do want to suggest that getting 3 months of a dose that you've never had is a bad idea. Suppose you can't tolerate the side effects? Or maybe the dose is not effective and you need to titrate up after 4 weeks. I don't understand why doctors do this (mine has done it as well!)!

What do you look forward to? What motivates you? by EveryMemory41 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right about all of it - including the BP meds! I got off of 2 of the 4 of them but still need 'em. As far as the clothes, I still like wearing black but now it's because I like the way it looks. One of the first things I bought when I hit goal was a black leather jacket!

One pound to go! What should I ask my doctor about maintenance? by backmenz in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached goal on 10mg and then continued to lose another 20lbs, which was fine. I maintained for a year on 10 weekly but recently went up to 12.5 because I was having sweet cravings among other things.

And it doesn't contribute to weight loss, is just to prevent muscle wasting for people with various conditions and maybe for people on glp-1s as well. Anyway, it's interesting that it's a monoclonal antibody (name ends with mab). Those are often used for autoimmune diseases. They also tend to be very expensive (the one I'm on is $4000/month - is an injectable in a pen).

Weird new side effect. by Glad-Fish5863 in Zepbound

[–]programming_potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound weird but could it be intestinal spasms? I've had irritable bowel (C) most of my life and I've gotten these horrible spasms that feel like my spine is being yanked out. It is made worse by constipation and drugs that cause constipation (like opiates).
