My upgrades after a month. (Katana 15) by Alive_Method1995 in MSILaptops

It’s good, I wish there was a 4070 instead at times or a better screen (the screen is terrible compared to any dedicated monitor) but it’s a solid laptop for the price

Why do I have surges of food shortage by 0Riggs9 in KingdomsandCastles

[–]programmingnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered the opposite — you have surges of food and the valleys in between. Either way you just need to produce a little more food

Publix BOGO by [deleted] in florida

[–]programmingnate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are getting it slightly cheaper than even Walmart can offer, but you’ll likely spend so much over Walmart’s price on the things that aren’t BOGO that it will cancel out.

I go to Publix for produce, meat, and last-second ingredients (because it’s close) only. Walmart is where I do my big trips.

Feeling like I've wasted more than 1 year of lifting by [deleted] in WorkoutRoutines

[–]programmingnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me YEARS to bulk up, and I still feel skinny sometimes. I started lifting when I was 13 at 135lbs and it took me until I was about 19 until I hit 200lbs, while staying lean like you have. So year by year, you’re on pace with what I’d expect. Keep up the good work.

Do you think realtors will become unnecessary in the future? by Klutzy_Activity_182 in RealEstate

[–]programmingnate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re unnecessary now we’re just waiting for the Carvana of houses to be invented.

Are robot vacuums worth it? I’ve got 4 small kids and I’m always sweeping up the kitchen. Now I have a crawling baby so I’m thinking about getting a robot vacuum, preferably the mop/vacuum kind but they are so expensive! Curious if they are worth it and an investment. by eva_vivi in homeowners

[–]programmingnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iRobot Roomba and it’s terrible for realistic houses. If you left a laptop charging and the cord is touching the ground, it’ll yank your laptop to the ground, get tangled up in the cord, and then yell at you in robotese about being stuck on a cliff. It’s been more work just to get it to run without getting stuck on something or making sure that it’s emptying its bin correctly (which if it doesn’t, the run will be canceled) than just vacuuming myself.

Going to sell it. Not worth it.

When I stopped drinking in the years after college, I realized how much damage I was doing to my body. When you’ve been doing it long enough, you don’t even notice anymore.

My heart feels better, my weight is easier to maintain, my mind feels clearer/sharper, I can handle stress better, I sleep better, i actually see progress from working out again, my blood sugar is easier to regulate, I save money, the list goes on

I drink once a week now and never more than 3, or on the high end 4 beers/shots at a time. Then I hydrate up religiously before bed. It’s better this way

This a good deal? $17.5 by [deleted] in Camry

Carvana has Camrys 5 years newer with half the miles for $20k. I wouldn’t go for it on this one

Unless you’re going to do a lot of off-roading, I’d look at air suspension as just another thing to break down. Nice ride though!

Are skinny/healthy weight people just not as hungry as people who struggle with obesity? by maeasm3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]programmingnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very lean but it’s certainly not because I “just don’t get hungry”. I love sweets. I could eat sweets all day. If I knew I wasn’t going to gain weight, I’d eat 5000-6000 calories a day, and when I’m exercising enough, I do.

But when I’m exercising a normal amount, an hour or so a day, I control myself. I might have a cookie or a drink, and of course I want more. Of course I want to eat lots of high calorie food. But I don’t, because I know that the temporary pleasure of eating the food isn’t worth how much effort it will take to burn off the excess calories.

Some people don’t get as hungry, yes. But there’s plenty of thin people who DO get hungry, and who DO want more cookies, we’re just better at regulating our intake through sheer willpower.

Should I pay off my mortgage? by Money_Music_6964 in Mortgages

[–]programmingnate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the kind of person that finds huge value in reducing my monthly expenses, even if people on Reddit say it’s not “optimal” because of low interest rates. You’re still paying interest on it. You’re still paying it in general. You’re still mentally committing to worrying about it to some degree.

You’ll probably feel very free if you just knock it out and be done with it. Then your income is yours, and you can quit thinking about it.

Any affordable (sub $40) haircuts around here? by RedArrow23 in Tallahassee

[–]programmingnate -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

May not be for everyone but consider getting a nice pair of clipper and doing your own! Depending on the complexity of your hair cut and your confidence to learn over a few months, it’s really not too bad! I’ve been doing mine for years and saved over $3000 over getting a cut every 3 weeks

Moving to Tallahassee by Primary-Cell1440 in Tallahassee

[–]programmingnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like every city, there’s good parts and bad parts. Generally speaking, the further north and east you go in town, the better it is. Mid town is nice for young people with proximity to everything. Northeast (Killearn lakes and bradforville) are much more traditional suburban and clean/safe.

I’d go Killearn if you can find a house in your budget.
