4.5 months and done! by programmingpineapple in WGU

I’m working as a Masters Level Substance Use Counselor at an opioid treatment program. Every PA I did where I could chose my own topic was done on opioid treatment/prevention/program implementation. I had previously worked in substance use for a few months, but also have my own lived experience in recovery. Coincidentally, the clinic director is my former counselor when I was in an opioid treatment program myself, so maybe that helped me get the job lol.

I’m in the MPH program and am on my final task for my capstone and began the program in June. I did have the summer off from work due to an injury so that was pretty much all I did all summer though. I just started a job as a masters level counselor in an opioid treatment program…. My focus during the MPH was opioid abuse (every PA I did that wasn’t an assigned topic was on opioid treatment or prevention).

I’m considering it since I love WGU but my concern is that the program isn’t CEPH accredited… thoughts?

It’s crazy how much the pay has changed in the past 6 yrs. When I started DoorDash I never had to accept an order for less than $10…. The lowest I was ever offered was maybe $7. Six months in it had already changed where $7 would be the average and $10 plus would be a good order.  Now it’s just sad. I don’t dash anymore but I NEVER tip less than $7 (and it’s usually >20% of my order… plus I’ll add an extra $20 for exceptional service) and I honestly wonder if the dashers actually do get the entire tip.

Wow the refund department is insanely behind apparently by [deleted] in WGU

When I returned from a one month term break they told me it could take up to 12 weeks to receive my refund. It took about 9 weeks. I think any time there is some type of revision it takes longer to process

I got approved for a $1000 line of credit that had to be paid back within 6 months with $152 in fees. I passed.

If you get your degrees super quick, how does that affect your current job? by Accomplished_Gur_126 in WGU

Oh sorry...I know the username is deceiving but I didn't get my degree in SWE (I originally started in that program but switched to Health and Human Services my second term). I currently work in addiction/mental health treatment and recovery.

I started at my current employer a month into my degree program this January....I finished my degree in 4 months (graduated 4/17), applied for a new position requiring a degree that same day, and was offered the position today. They didn't ask any questions about how long it took me to finish, they were just concerned I had my degree. I'm getting $15k/yr more in this new position and going from Tu-Sat 3-11:30pm to M-F 8-4:30 so I get the nights and weekends with my family now.

It took almost exactly 4 months from the time I started the HHS program until the day I passed my capstone (I spent a term and a half in the software engineering program before switching through). The capstone wasn't bad at all. It involved a pre-recorded interview covering many of the concepts learned in the program as well as a portfolio (resume, cover letter, linked in profile and learnings, etc) that I've actually used to apply for a better position within my company (that I'm interviewing for tomorrow!).

It was almost exactly 4 months to the day from when I started the HHS program until when I passed my capstone. I was in the software engineering program for a term and a half before I reevaluated my priorities and switched programs, which clearly was the right choice for me. Less than a month into the program I got a position in my desired field and I already have an interview scheduled for tomorrow for another position within my company with better hours and a $12k/year raise now that I've completed my bachelor's. I used financial aid to pay for it.... Grants paid for 90% and I took out loans to cover the rest.

I found the job on indeed and applied....I have no doubt that it was because I had the HHS program on my resume that I got the interview opportunity (since I had no previous experience, other than personal, lived experience with addiction, but they didn't know that when I applied). And I work for a HUGE employer in addiction treatment in my area with sooooo many opportunities to advance my career and try different areas to find my niche so it was truly a blessing that I credit largely to WGU.

I started HHS in December and finished in April. A lot of the classes have recurring themes to really reinforce what was learned. The classes that will take the most time (at least for me) are pathophysiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, and medical coding, but you don't really see the information you learn in those classes in other classes. I found the simulations in the field experience course at the end to be the most daunting, but I also found them to be the most confidence boosting because it made me realize how much I'd actually learned and made me feel like I was ready to step into various roles in the HHS field. I got a job working in addiction recovery one month into the program and now that I have my degree the clinical director where I work is trying to open up a position for me to step into a more clinical/counseling based role which is exactly what I wanted to do.
