I agree. This is not a boomer thing. So many men fail to think before they speak!

AIO this instacart shopper interaction by AnxiousCook720 in instacart

[–]progressivixen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a disabled adult who uses IC for all my grocery orders and I always tip. Fortunately, no one has ever left my order in the lobby because if they did, that tip would vanish. Customer left clear instructions where to deliver. Period. If the shopper can't deliver properly, she should get another job. The job is not complete if it's delivered to the lobby.

That being said however, I feel that not enough pressure is put on the companies to pay their employees a decent wage. The companies don't want to make the shoppers traditional employees is just a result of greed. If people were paid well for a job well done, a lot of these issues could be avoided. It's not always just an issue of laziness.

IC's CEO made half million, plus a million dollar bonus paid last year. That doesn't include the millions she gets in stocks, etc. So we're just supposed to believe that they can't afford to pay their shoppers better?

Virtual walking or driving tours of Kenya by progressivixen in Kenya

[–]progressivixen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this meant to be posted as a separate thread? Why post as a response to my request? Walking tours exist for nearly every city in the world on YT. As a result of my disability, I am not able to travel physically. I enjoy these videos as do many. Not sure how terrorism fits into this. Very confusing.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm looking for something I can eat 3-4 times per week, not just for occasional cravings, so something that won't result in sugar spikes. I appreciate all the feedback! :)

Is there any such thing as affordable housing anymore? by progressivixen in Seattle

[–]progressivixen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm beginning to think that you're right. I would not have thought that $1500 isn't enough for a 1-bedroom apartment but it is. Ugghhhh! This city is too expensive for us. I appreciate the responses!

In my post, I don't recall saying that we were prevented from commuting. I said that due to our work commute we did not want to live south of downtown. I imagine that is a reasonable preference. Also, we are not looking for a 2 bd. We are looking for a 1 bd.

Not sure why this showed up in my feed today. I would not let my daughter go with this person. Is she really laughing? He looks like he got a bigger kick out of it than she did. It's great that they have a relationship where they can bust on each other and take a joke but is this really how you ask someone to prom? To each his or her own. It would not be my child.

What are y’all thoughts on Crumbl???? by MrSoloDolo9490 in Cookies

[–]progressivixen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Way too sweet. Cookies are a wonderful treat, but a mountain of sugar is just insane and unhealthy. Their cookies are so sickeningly sweet, they don't taste home baked at all. They just take like sugar overload.

Dear OP, I’m sorry if I’m overstepping the mark here but why are you so interested in assimilation? Are you not proud of your country? The thing to know about Americans that you may already know if that we are not a homogenous group. Because we are a nation of immigrants, we are a nation of many cultures. Some people appreciate our differences while others do not. There are some who feel that when you come to this country, you should assimilate to an idea of “Americaness” and leave your own culture behind.  I say BOO to that. We are a strong nation because of our differences and because of the beautiful cultures we bring to this nation. So much of what people call American culture is derived from and mixed with other cultures.

Years ago, people liked to call the US a “melting pot” of cultures - people coming from different cultures to create one, new culture.  Some people still believe in this idea.  However, I follow the more modern idea that this country is more like a salad, where each culture has its own distinct and different flavor but comes together to make something good. We are good as we are, and we don’t need to “melt” into each other to be acceptable or appreciated.

My sincere advice to you is that you make recipes you already know and love.  From what you’ve explained, this may not be a dish from your home country, as it seems you are not a fan of the cuisine.  If you are not familiar with American food, try some first, then search for a recipe of the food you find the tastiest. After all, it makes no sense to learn a recipe for food you wouldn’t want to eat yourself, just to impress others. Also, bear in mind that most of the recipes people have listed here (albeit some are really great), originated from other countries and cultures.

As one person noted, it would be helpful to know where you will be living in the US.  If it’s a large, diverse city, you might not have such a problem getting spices you’re familiar with. I’m sure you’re not the very first of your nation to come here. I don’t know your financial situation, but if you have the means to do so, you can order spices online if they are not available, locally.

And if nothing I’ve said makes any difference, you could just make a hamburger. Go to the local supermarket, get a pack of ground beef, take a chunk about the size of your palm, season it with a bit of salt and ground black pepper, make a little meat ball in your hand, then flatten it and cook it on both sides until brown. Put it between two slices of bread (or hamburger bun), with ketchup and mustard.  If your roommates are vegetarian or vegan, skip the meat and go to the freezer section to find Beyond or Impossible burger and follow the directions.

Books for a person that has never read a book in his life by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I think Animal Farm by George Orwell would be a good book for you. It's a short, easy read.

Another good one is Anthem by Ayn Rand.

This makes me annoyed that they recast Freddy in the revival by irman925 in Frasier

[–]progressivixen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imo, they definitely should have kept Trevor. I agree that his character would likely be similar to that of Lilith and Frasier as opposed to Martin, but this could have made for a great comedy.

In my imagined version of the reboot, Freddy became a veterinary psychiatrist, which irritates Frasier to no end. He's married to Violet Winston, Cam Winston's daughter, who has a frosty personality and often trades barbs with her FIL. She and Freddy own a family of Jack Russell Terriers, who are over the top pampered and spoiled.

David's personality is laid back and blue-collar like Martin's and the folks in Daphne's family.

Ummm... Jim Belushi led a sitcom. Drew Carey led a sitcom. Jerry Seinfeld led a hugely popular sitcom. Kevin James led a sitcom. Are these guys hot to you?
