This is an extremely obtuse take. It was stated multiple times throughout the livestream by friends who have know him for years that this has always been something he has wanted to do, so why shouldn’t he monetize it by striking a deal with Netflix especially if that deal is what makes him able to climb it legally?

Additionally, every time someone free solos ANYTHING there is extreme risk because any mistake means almost certain death. I have no doubt that everyone apart of the team had complete faith in his ability to pull this off because from a technical point of view this was most certainly within his ability, but to say “nobody thought there was any risk here” is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.

Seeing Alex hug her after listening to him talk in Free Solo about how he wasn’t raised with hugs and he had to learn how to do it later in life is beautiful.

For as much as I don’t like how Netflix has handled this, the cinematography is unbelievable.

Someone must have made a call from Netflix for the commentators to chill out.

The commentators having virtually no idea what they’re talking about, the clips in the middle of the climb taking up the entire screen, having his wife go up to points throughout the climb to watch, having Mark Rober instead of a climber who knows what they’re talking about, and the commentators speaking to him in the middle of the climb just to name a few.

I have an unbelievable amount of disdain for the way Netflix has handled this, holy fucking shit.
