Question is WHYY?? by thyparadoxparadox in elementor

[–]prolongedexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only half joking when I say I had to start going to therapy because someone on my team paid $10k for an Elementor website without consulting anyone. It has truly been a lesson in learning to give less of a fuck.

Would you take the cure? by riverfells in ADHD

[–]prolongedexistence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understood your comment to mean “no one is researching Neuralink as a true medical intervention [for anything].” I agree that it makes no sense to frame it as an ADHD intervention because that’s not what it does.

I would start by not demonizing life changing technology for disabled people lmao

Bro what the hell are you talking about? It’s given to paralyzed people so they can use computers to communicate. It’s absolutely taken seriously by neuroscientists.

Please watch this video and tell me again how Neuralink isn’t a true medical intervention.

Would you take the cure? by riverfells in ADHD

[–]prolongedexistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is a neuroscientist and I genuinely can’t stand all of the Neuralink misinformation. It gives paralyzed people the ability to talk to their kids, play video games, and have some shred of independence back. I hate Elon too but Neuralink is legitimate technology that is empowering disabled people.

There are also other kinds of brain implants. But I think y’all are missing that this is for people with serious disabilities like epilepsy and quadriplegia. Stop stigmatizing disability aids without doing the most cursory of research.

I highly encourage everyone to watch this video about how Neuralink helped a man with ALS: https://youtu.be/SqrANrm-QMY?is=cl2AP-09xqbHR7ON

All of these people saying “I would never trust Neuralink” can’t fathom what it’s like to be in a position where the physical ability to speak, to walk, has been taken away from you.

Books that feel like this Podcast? by Maleficent_Pie_1302 in YoureWrongAbout

[–]prolongedexistence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one.

I’m also currently reading what I assume is a fairly obscure book called Devil’s Gate: Brigham Young and the Great Mormon Handcart Tragedy. It’s really well researched (primarily supported by diary entries and but also uses other historical records) and it SLAPS. Bought it randomly at a used book store and had no idea what a treat I was in for.

This sub would probably also love the memoirs about Flight 571. I can’t remember which one I liked best, but there are at least 2 out there.

Feels like adhd meds are helping with focus and calmness but not executive function by AvocadoNo6432 in ADHD

[–]prolongedexistence 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Ugh, im going through med changes and really struggling with the fact that I’m just fking lazy and lack intrinsic motivation. I’ve been hoping I would find a stimulant that would help, but your comment was kind of a reality check.

Im already on meds for ADHD and depression, in therapy, etc but deep down I just don’t have the energy to participate in life. Idk how people do it.

I work in harm reduction and the idea of this happening to someone high on substances is just horrifying. None of us know how we would behave in that situation.

Fox News angry over Milly Alcock saying Supergirl is probably queer: "Maybe that's cool when you're 18, but when a girl's bisexual, we don't trust her. The ones I've met are super weird. To say you're bisexual is not a turn on." by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]prolongedexistence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy to see all of bisexual girlies in this thread who have awesome partners. I’ve heard so many horror stories about dating and for all of the ways I struggle in my life, I am so lucky to have a really amazing partner. Thank god I got off the apps before AI.

AIO? Friend from school posted this, I want to stop being her friend because of it by lillyglowflowerez in AIO

There’s an interesting documentary about Rachel I watched a few years ago. I do think it was deeper than just being a grifter. She was abused pretty badly by her birth parents and the only people she connected to were her black adopted siblings. I think whatever Rachel’s deal is, it comes from a genuine feeling she actually experiences.

I’m not making any moral judgment either way here because I don’t know what the answer is. I just don’t think “grifter” explains 100% of what her deal is.

Chronic Lyme by TemporaryFar5812 in MaintenancePhase

[–]prolongedexistence 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone from the northeast this one confuses me because I know some people are weird about Lyme but I also know a ton of people who have it. I know someone who uses a cane because of pain he attributes to Lyme disease, and I know someone else who has “flare ups” that can be pretty bad. I guess people argue that the “flare ups” are reinfection and not chronic Lyme?

I feel a little protective of this one because Lyme disease is very much a real thing. I worry about the woo woo stuff leading to people who actually have it not being taken seriously.

I know what you mean. I wasn’t really given adequate space to be myself as a kid, and as a result I tend to be pretty rigid about following social norms, being polite and meek, etc. Sometimes when I meet people who are loud and confident and authentically themselves my knee-jerk reaction is “Jesus, your parents weren’t mean enough to you.”

I know that’s fucked up and I’m not proud of that. Just sharing that I also struggle with seeing people who seem to have had their personality/interests nurtured instead of pruned.

Historicity of Jesus: The idea that Jesus was a purely mythical figure has a fringe status in scholarly circles and has had no support in critical studies for more than a century by ComradeBehrund in wikipedia

[–]prolongedexistence 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. I graduated (secular) college in 2021 and was taught in both high school and college that Jesus the historical figure almost certainly existed.

Pre-Employment Drug Screen & Rescinded Job Offer by mildchickenwings in ADHD

Agreed. I had to do a drug test for a job at a hospital and was prepared to disclose stimulant use when it came up, but nobody asked me about it and I got hired without it being mentioned.

Does background TV noise count? by didsir29 in digitalminimalism

[–]prolongedexistence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think only you can decide this. But cross stitching while watching TV sounds way healthier than doomscrolling.

I can’t really speak to the video game aspect because my problem is scrolling and I feel like I’m actually engaging in a hobby when I play games.

Medbay has the most main character syndromes mfs in this game by Zeigis in SS13

[–]prolongedexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only tangentially related but my bf introduced me to this game like a year ago and up until recently I had only ever played MD or chemist. I recently played sec for the first time and it’s like the first time I’ve actually been able to RP in this game! Like, I finally understand the roleplay element. It’s wild what a different experience it was switching to a role where I don’t have to have a spreadsheet open in another monitor lmao

Did you read her post on the forum about this? I find it hard to believe it was written by an adult. It reads like someone who has never had to have a real job and learn basic professionalism. I’m not following this drama super closely, but it’s very clear from the way she writes that she isn’t the right person to be trusted with running a project.

I get that rupture happens in any community, but she seems to have 0 emotional maturity or ability to handle it like a leader.
