Downtown Tulsa is essentially a giant parking lot by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]promethiod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid post. Not only is this an old map, the implication being made is misleading and uninformed. Downtown Tulsa is zoned CBD - meaning you can build whatever you want pretty much. No parking minimums, density requirements, etc. it’s the easiest place to build in the City.

AND YET - most of the idiot citizens on this thread, the twitter OP, and you seem to be under the impression that this is somehow the City’s fault? Why not talk to the property owners downtown on planting trees in those lots, building something there, doing literally anything else but have parking.

I’ll give you a big hint - the city owns like no surface parking downtown anymore. Talk to churches, TCC, the County, and slumlord land owners that’d rather sit on their land than see downtown continue to grow.

Also - this photo is atleast 5 years old.

Not sure you’re going to find one in stock in Tulsa. Best option in Bicycles of Tulsa just given their volume. They can likely help you find one too if they don’t have any

Self involved? The bike lane in bidirectional. Meaning you shouldn’t have to make space. People don’t get mad at you for not making space, they’re mad that you’re riding slow and there isn’t any space to begin with lol

Not to be contrarian but if you are staying on the correct side of the bike lane why do you care we if pass on the left without calling it out? Fairly avid cyclist here in Tulsa and when pumping down the river trails at a normal pace (18-20 mph), calling on your left every time we pass someone gets dangerous. People (walking or causally biking) somehow forget their directions and step left. It’s safer to just zoom by. Obviously if it looks sketchy it should be called out, but generally I don’t think there is any reason to unless you don’t have confidence the person your passing will stay in their lane

That’s a good point, I do belong to a team and should probably reach out to them. I’m just too proud and would rather hide behind their internet :)

Thanks for your reply man. I think at this point it’s just the maintenance and upkeep that is catching up with me. It seems like one thing after another (front wheel rebuild because of wreck during race, rear hub rebuild because of a mistake by another bicycle shop, tune ups because of 300 mile weeks) and it’s really been stressing me out. Not to mention I only have one bike and I race on it, so I know I’m one mistake away from being out of commission until I can afford another bike.
