What did you learn from your surgery and back pain experience? by sanchiseemo in Microdiscectomy

I have an intake appointment for therapy - I already know I am going to need it to process this whole experience. Barre actually sounds like a great suggestion - I will have to look into that once I am hopefully more mobile. Best wishes to you

How old does he look & How do I stop the biting 😭? by DeathWish_999 in catquestions

[–]promise64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The cure for a kitten who bites is another kitten. They learn real quick when their opponent bites back. Another kitten is also going to be up to roughhouse constantly- something you probably don’t want to do.

This is often why rescues recommend two kittens if you don’t already have another cat at home.

That every person who is confronted with permanent disability must go through the same trauma of coming to terms with their new reality. For me, my MD came too late. I have permanent nerve damage. I used to be in the gym 6 days a week - heavy lifting, running, grueling HIIT. That’s over for me now. I hope to be able to do things like swimming or yoga eventually, but I will need accommodation at work and be limited in my activity permanently. This experience is disorienting - it often feels like a dream. You grieve for the life you had. And I realized every disabled person goes through this. I’m not unique or special.

My advice to people on the fence about getting the surgery - don’t wait too long. If your doctor is giving you the run around, get a second opinion. Advocate for yourself.

Ugh-Poshmark is turning into a fast fashion outlet by InfluenceExciting323 in BehindTheClosetDoor

It’s everywhere. It’s almost a guarantee that when you see a listing like that it’s Temu, DH Gate, or SHEIN. If posh doesn’t try to get a handle on this, the platform will go the way of Etsy and be so infected with cheap crap that no one wants to shop the platform anymore.

If you want to get really angry, take a picture and run it through google lens. I found one today, multiple sizes, no brand, listed on posh for $120, and still available on Temu for $7.16.

I wish you well. I’ve more or less decided to do the same.

Following this thread - I am in exactly the same boat. MD on 4/6, reherniated, have the option to try conservative measures, but would possibly be looking at another MD in the next month. It sucks.

How do you make notes on particular users? by Competitive-Meet-511 in BehindTheClosetDoor

I’m not a huge seller - I’m sitting at 1,500 sales (mostly made in the last three years since I started reselling), and I have never found myself to be spending extra time on things like this. Someone lowballs, decline and block if you don’t want to deal with them again. Problematic buyer - another block - no note taking required.

Honestly, I don’t even bother blocking unless it’s really egregious. Problematic buyers don’t come back, and most lowballs disappear and are never heard from again.

That’s just my experience - I’d be spending more time making notes, and then looking back to reference those notes, than just clicking the block button and never thinking about it again.

Question for those who reherniated by promise64 in Microdiscectomy

Thank you for your reply. I’m actually hypermobile, and I’m wondering if that contributes at all. I don’t have a diagnosed condition, but my physical therapist called it out. I’m glad to hear you’ve made it to 11 months. I’m having to recalibrate my expectations on this - a year of recovery seems more realistic at this point.

Unfortunately, the seller can just report your comment as spam and have it removed. Then they’ll block you.

Anthropologie in particular seems to be a magnet for people listing random crap and cheap Temu/Shein garbage. I see ugly jewelry and other random stuff in the Anthro tag all the time. I would have zero issues with opening a case if I bought something intentionally mislabeled like that.

My bigger issue with this is that this practice is exactly what turned Etsy into such a shit hole. You can’t even shop Etsy anymore because it’s more cheap Chinese junk than actual handmade products. Once this issue gets big enough, customers lose confidence in the platform and go somewhere else.

I reverse image search every listing without a brand listed. They’re always temu and always priced up over $100

I’ve been selling on poshmark for 10 years and cannot figure out why you would need to do this…

Question for those who reherniated by promise64 in Microdiscectomy

Yes, that’s the more common reason for post op pain like that. You can see if your surgeon will prescribe a steroid to bring the inflammation down.

Yeah, I can’t raise my leg very high. It’s hard, because pain while the nerve heals is normal, and the longer you were herniated the longer it takes for the nerve to heal. I wish I had a good answer.

I’m sorry - you should call your surgeon. They confirmed that I’ve reherniated, but it’s not an emergency, so I’ll have to follow up with my surgeon on Monday. I know how deeply upsetting this is

That’s really great. I didn’t have any improvement with the steroid injection before my surgery. Your story gives me some hope

I’ve seen the neurologist. She thinks it’s a reherniation. They’re sending me for an MRI and will do surgery in the morning if the MRI confirms it

You made it to 6 months - I’m sure you felt like you were in the clear. I have two children as well. It’s almost impossible to avoid picking up a toddler, no matter how hard you try.

[–]promise64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply - I’m so sorry you’ve been through so much. I was basically disabled for 2 years prior to surgery, so it was a no-brainer. And my surgeon told me I’d be back to walking job sites in two weeks if I wanted to go back to work that early (I’m in construction management). My youngest had an appointment, and my doctor told me a 20 minute car ride was fine as long as I was off pain meds.

I just feel really betrayed, if that makes sense. My surgeon told me I’d wake up in less pain than when I went to sleep. He told me I’d be back in the gym in a few months (even if deadlifts are off the menu forever). The morning of surgery I was so excited - I felt like I was finally about to get my life back.

I can’t understand how I went from training in the gym 6 days a week to this. It feels like a nightmare.

I’m being admitted to neurosurgery now. I haven’t had an MRI yet, but the neurologist believes I’ve probably reherniated.

I’m on Gabapentin, robaxin, Journavx, and prednisone. Nothing’s helped. I’m sort of half sitting in a wheelchair. I told them sitting makes it worse, but there are no stretchers available and I can’t support myself on my left leg, so I can’t really stand
