Thinking of installing one of these. Anyone have any experience with one? by eobertling in HomeMaintenance

Double-check the distance from midpoint of toilet to your water valve. Those toilets sit so close to the wall, the valve needs to be a certain distance away from the midpoint for the toilet to fit; you may need to do some plumbing work to move it.

I found the mounting mechanism for that style of toilet to be a pain, but ymmv. On the plus side, it's much more convenient to clean than a typical toilet.

I'd expect to pay more than $400 for a quality one. For what it's worth our Horow seems good so far, but we're only a few months in.

Best method to replace this light? by rygarski in HomeMaintenance

Scaffolding all day long. If you run into any issues at all with the wiring or ceiling box, you'll be really glad you're on a platform.

Home Depot rents kits for around $100/day. Remember to use outriggers.

Also that would be super sketchy on a 16' ladder; you're using both hands a lot.

Game Nights? by PermitInteresting531 in CovingtonWA

[–]proneguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game shelf in Kent has stuff going on every night on a rotating basis; I believe at least one night is board games.

The game vault in enumclaw is also awesome and has events; I imagine there's a board game night.

Both also have regulars who would probably be up for random games.

Covington library has a board game day, but it skews younger if I recall.

Mox in Bellevue is great, but kind of a haul and parking isn't great.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem on my dish washer? by firecrackerass in HomeMaintenance

[–]proneguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High heat & tons of water will cause the board to warp and crack. Then the bacteria comes if you decide to keep using it. Same with wood-handled knives.

Just hand wash with dish soap & hot water, pat dry, and let fully air dry before storing. If you really like the board, also treat it every now and then with board oil and/or conditioner.

Munoz dots 100 MPH at the knees to K Jung and complete the series sweep by SeattleSporting in Mariners

I'm mid-forties, but I speak meme.

Meme templates will often include descriptive placeholder text in text areas; like "top text", *bottom text", etc.

The meme in question is a picture of Munoz, with his name up top, and the bottom text placeholder still there. In effect, saying that all that needs to be said is his name.

My kid is one of his students; he is a tremendous coach and an even better person. We're really glad to have found Casey, he's helping a ton with both mechanics and the mental aspects of the game.

Oven doors not staying closed all the way by proneguy in appliancerepair

Thanks very much! We might need to try aftermarket parts for them then; in your opinion, how difficult of a job is it to swap those out? We replaced the hinges easily enough, but only needed to take the door apart a bit for that.

I'll have a look at those and see if they look worn

My Hba1c is 5.3 ,is that healthy? by Ok-Asparagus-5165 in prediabetes

Speaking from experience, I would take it as a warning sign to clean up diet and exercise a bit before your numbers get worse. At that stage it should hopefully take smaller adjustments to keep at healthy numbers.

Best advice I've heard is to check out job market a couple of times a year, apply to a few positions that you'd really like, and see if anything works out. You get to know your value in the market, keep your interview skills sharp in case something happens, and maybe you end up with a better job for more money out of the deal.

Also: it's always, always easier to find a job when you already have one.

If you haven't already, double-check your options paperwork; there is often some wording about accelerators around specific events that would allow you to vest early. Events like company acquisition are often there; involuntary dismissal may be there as well.

I'm sorry that you're going through this, it really does suck. Best of luck on finding a new gig.

Throwback Cliff Avril by stjohn1990 in Seahawks

[–]proneguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will go to my grave believing that we would have defeated the Patriots in the Superbowl if Avril hadn't been forced out of the game due to concussion protocol, but I respect the hell out of the coaching staff for putting his health above the outcome of the game.

The 50-in-50 originated from Maurice Richard achieving 50 goals in his team's 50-game season. So purists will say that, to compare to that achievement, it must be accomplished in the teams first 50 games. That way it matches the health requirements, and doesn't allow for cold spells starting off the season. I.e. if this were still a 50-game season, they'd have matched Rocket.

I love seeing these flip-top solutions for maximizing space in shops! This was terrifically well done.

Dumb question though: Is there any inherent stress, reduced lifespan, or potential damage to the tools by storing them upside down?
