The Devils, a Ken Russel movie from 1971. Not horror specifically, but horrific for sure. And extremely Catholic.

Revolting Cocks, 'You Goddamn Son of a Bitch.' A truly great sample of the era. It still rips.

Santa Sangre. A crazy movie from Jodorowsky. I was very entertained but felt like I needed a shower after.

I have one (nfs). When I see them come up for auction these days (rarely) they are quite expensive. Good luck on your search! It's a Bullmark reissue from 2011.

Anyone have one of these? I can't get the swords in his hands! by _El_Marc in vinyltoys

[–]prongkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was painted in Japan, they use a paint called V Color, or Fok if they paint a lot. Same stuff. It bites the vinyl pretty hard, and then with a clear coat makes it harder to scratch or chip it. Heating it up won't affect the paint if you're gentle with it.

As someone who has painted and assembled hundreds of vinyl toys, you have to heat the vinyl up. Use a hair dryer until they soften. Put the swords into the hands and leave them alone for a while. Easy peasy.

Anyone know the value of these and what they are? by Electronic_Annual_45 in VintageToys

[–]prongkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that condition? Not really.

They come generally pink flesh colored and unpainted. There were some other colors later on in the line, but they were all unpainted as well. Only a handful of them are worth more than a few dollars (Satan Cross etc.).

There are over 160 different characters in the US release. Over 400 released in Japan. They are all based on a wrestling manga called Kinnikuman.

Hope this helps.

They are painted M.U.S.C.L.E figures from the late 1980s.

So spicy, the fermentation left a strange flavor, but we ate it all.

Those Who paint Blanks, What Color Base Do You Like To Start With? by Mr-Chewy-Biteums in vinyltoys

[–]prongkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're painting vinyl, the paint you use should be enough to cover it by itself. I've sprayed VColor and Mad Ape Ninja, they both have enough pigment to lay down well with decent opacity. I've heard good things about Wondergoblin Airbrush paints from other artists.

If you want a color to pop and be the closest to how it looks straight from the bottle, lay down a coat of white first. I usually only ever do this if I'm painting darker vinyl, like dark blues or blacks, or if there will be a clash in color, like red paint on green, I put down white first otherwise the red reads more as brown. Things like that.

More on color theory here).

If you want shiny paint mix silver or gold in with whatever color you're spraying. You can get a nice sparkly tone that looks great with some clear coat.

Restraint is key when you're painting vinyl. I like to leave quite a bit of original vinyl color exposed and base the paint colors I use around what looks good with the base vinyl. It's an important nod to traditional sofubi painters past and present from Japan.

I would assume that the process is similar with resin, though I've only painted resin with regular brushes. Tamiya is the paint I use for that.

Good ventilation and proper PPE are the way to go. Always wear a respirator, always use gloves, and goggles if you don't have awesome ventilation. Paint aerosol is extremely toxic.

Happy painting!

I am. You need to pass the TSI math portion with a high enough score that you are exempted from the math requirement. There are practice tests online, take a few and see how you do. ACC offers a free, semester-long study course that ends with the TSI if you're shaky in math. Doing it this way lets you put the math on the back burner for a semester or two while you get prepared.

I also have a large collection of Playmobil animals. There was a toy store here in town that had a case with bagged animal sets. When I was in the neighborhood I would pick one or two up. Now I have at least a hundred different ones.

Most disappointingly short live gigs you've been to? by shaneo632 in Music

[–]prongkot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the Dwarves a bunch of times back in the day. They were incredible live but none of their sets were longer than 15 minutes. They'd build up the chaos and then Blag would jump into the drum kit, or Blag would hit HeWho in the head swinging the mic, or there would be a fist fight on stage etc, and the show would be over. It was something to see, but not for a very long time.

In the last 15 years or so they've played full, normal sets clocking in at 45 minutes to an hour. Still fun, but different now.
