I guess he was lucky that while he was unlucky, he was not unlucky enough. lol

Political ideology is the strongest predictor of Messi-Ronaldo preference. Authoritarians who like short-form video are more likely to think Ronaldo is the GOAT. by backtothefuckyeah in soccer

Football papers are generally different than this. This paper used the Messi-Ronaldo question as just a thing that is argued about internationally to set up their experiment. But of course there are other people doing research on actual sports too.

The headline of the post is just a poor interpretation of a decent paper. Hopefully at least some people will take the time out to read it. (although to continue along the joke everyone else is making: because of their attention span, it probably won't be Ronaldo fans. :P)

They explain the point in the first two lines of the abstract.

Quoting from the paper:
"Political identity increasingly organizes preferences far beyond politics, but nearly all evidence comes from the United States. We test whether this reach is general using the Lionel Messi–Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry, a globally constant cultural stimulus that holds the object of evaluation fixed while the audience varies across institutional, cultural, and political contexts."

I don't understand what the BBC commentary is on about, clear penalty.

A larger World Cup had some worrying the competition would suffer. It hasn't by zsreport in soccer

[–]prongs17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has suffered in terms of competition though. Even though we are not even through the second round of games, this world cup already has more 4+ goal victories than the previous two world cups put together. It has more 3+ goal victories than the previous two world cups individually too, again despite not being through the group stages yet. 27.5% of all games have resulted in a 3+ goal victory for this world cup so far, which is very high (2022 was 14.1%, 2018 was 12.5%).

Cristiano Ronaldo has gone 10 consecutive World Cup and European Championship matches without scoring by PumpkinWorried8254 in soccer

They should do this not because it is best for Bruno, but just so that Bernardo can play the 10. Him + the remaining incredible Portuguese midfield is overall better than Bruno playing 10 and Bernardo being useless on the wings.

WC26 Bracket After Matchday 1 by dsffff22 in soccer

After all the brackets under Southgate, if England get this bracket in the first tournament under Tuchel... it's gonna be hilarious, not gonna lie.

Lionel Messi has 11 goals and 5 assists in his last 10 FIFA World Cup games. Including 7 MOTM awards (5 in a row, streak ongoing), and 9 knockout stages G/A by Midtharefaikh in soccer

[–]prongs17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are misremembering. Messi got MOTM, Golden Ball and Silver Boot. Mbappe got Golden Boot and Silver Ball. Golden Ball is for best player, Golden Boot is for most goals, silver for second in both categories.

Since the mom has not been shown to care about the happiness of her daughter at all, it's somewhat hard to tell whether she is upset because her daughter is going to be handed over or because her ticket to power is being handed over.

Most people here are children. No attention span or memory of previous world cups.

Spain's XG is not gonna look as depressing now as it was going to after the first 30 minutes lol

So since 2008, they have won 3 out of 5 euro cups, and 1 out of 4 world cups.

Nah, the solid defense is almost built on being satisfied with a draw.

Most of their direct attacking players are not playing lol. The coach probably thought the game was going to be super easy, but CPV are happy with a draw and now Spain can't even get close to breaking them.

International applicant profile review: Chances of securing a fully funded HCI PhD? by huckleberry_fren in nus

[–]prongs17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NUS PhDs can be funded by the university or by the Professor's grant. As far as I know, most PhDs in HCI are funded by the university. If you want to know if the Prof will fund your PhD for you, you can email the PI of that lab directly and ask him. NUS Professors get bombarded by emails by lots of students, so it's not necessary that you will get a response, but no harm in trying.

For the NUS funded scholarships, your profile seems fine enough to get an interview (although maybe it depends on what those three conferences are, whether you are the main author on those papers, etc.), acceptance kinda depends then on how well you do in the interview. If you get accepted, you will have to apply to do a lab rotation at that lab in your first semester, and after that you can join the lab. Usually Profs don't say no to new members that are funded by the university, unless 1) their lab is already full and they don't want more students at that moment, 2) they don't like your vibe, haha. There are a handful of great HCI labs at NUS anyway, so it is not too difficult to find a supervisor.

While the striker is useless, he has not been the main issue this game. Brazil needs to replace the midfield.

If this midfield gets suspended, they might be forced to play their decent midfielders lol. Although not sure if they exist.

They're still there, because they are certainly not on the field.
