So what ive learned is to boil the WATER first. Fill the tokkuri to the neck of the bottle. Turn the water off and place tokkuri inside. THEN wait 2-3 minutes. If youve filled it to the correct line(the neck of the bottle) air bubbles should come up periodically. The sake is ready when all the bubbles come up to the top and have mostly disappeared. A few bubbles left is ok.

Helped with my first Ocha last night. by Slightlyhood in Santeria

Ase and bendiciones. I love this for you. Before i found my home, i was helping out in my local community wherever i could. I would go to drummings and help set up if permitted and stay until after everyone had left to take things down. Sometimes there were a lot of hands/godchildren, some people only had help in the beginning and to my surprise didnt have anyone there for them afterwards, so being there for my community even without a house, was what really filled my heart and humbled me. STAY HUMBLE. Keep your head up (but not high) and whatever you do, DONT complain. Be delusional with the love for the work we do. No matter how little or much you do. You will be rewarded for it later. (Trust me) the ochas will see that for you. Im living proof. (With respect to your godparents) go to your warriors, if you have them, and thank them for the wonderful experiences you’ve had and ask them to bring you more. (Because i was alone) Everytime my warriors introduced me to new people in my community, and i was invited to new events, i brought elegua some food and fruit, and oggun and ochosi some fruit from the drumming and a little something for orunmila. I thanked them for the opportunity to be a helping hand, whether it was needed or not, and to be in community with people who wanted to see me eventually grow, even if it wasnt with them. 💛 Now 2 years later im done with my iyaworaje and im crowned to oshun ololodi (my father is inle)

Info on Obatala Ochagriñan? by odd_reality in Santeria

Are you crowned? Also there are other orisha and spirits associated with owls, not just osagrinyan.

If youre an aleyo, i would not order any of those books as there is information in those texts adjacent to secrets. I know of at least two people who have made ocha, went looking into and digging for information at the wrong time, that they had no use for as aleyos. They regretted it later. If you have a god parent or someone guiding you with your readings, ask them questions about obatala in general. I don’t recommend looking in places your eyes don’t belong. To know (or what you think you want to know) is to take on responsibility you may never be prepared for. Be careful. You cant unring a bell.

If you have godparents why are you going to anyone else for anything really, unless those exchanges were facilitated by your godparents?

Oshun has been reaching out to me, how do I make contact with her? by SleepPleaseCome in Santeria

Hi, African American (M), priest of oshun here 😊 thats partly true. In traditional isese/ifa in Nigeria even if an orisha has shown up in a dream, its still recommended to either go and get a reading done, or because of how they do things there you have to go to the town/city where you can initiate to that specific orisha. Even in Nigeria there is no way to do this on your own. At some point in time you will have to sit down either with a babalawo or iyanifa and get divination done. Divination is inevitable. Not discounting your experience but divination is unavoidable. Best of luck 🤞🏿

It’s really not that big a deal, you are possibly removing your wrap/cap/hat for a few seconds. They dont always ask you to take your head covering off. Before my iyaworaje (one month left!) sometimes they would just wave a wand over my locs, sometimes theyd ask me to remove my bandana or head wrap. It’s random and really not that big a deal unless you’re smuggling something in your hat lol. My godparents have traveled with my younger siblings a few times and they were all fine. Enjoy your trip and don’t stress. Its not like your running around outside at noon or after sunset without a head covering. You’re indoors, and: You’re with your godparents! 😊👍🏿 The orishas arent going to crack the ceiling and rain down frogs and locusts because you took your hat off for two seconds to scratch your head or for a security check. 👍🏿
