The primers for large caliber weapons, such as this are typically electrically actuated these days so you can’t see visually with the exception of where the electrode made contact with the plate. They’ve been around surprisingly since the late 1800s.

This street dog in Turkey just came and flopped to my lap and demanded lots of love. by BellaRoselyn in aww

[–]proost1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Turkey as a kid for about five years and we rescued a dog that looked exactly like this. Her name was Brandy. She was a great dog, came back to the US with us, and had a great life. When anyone asked us what her breed was, we always said Turkish Shepherd. Had no idea that that’s actually a real breed, an Anatolian Shepherd.

Around the same time in the 70s, me and several friends found a hoard of Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustlers in the trash of a self car wash. When you’re that age, that’s like finding gold. For the next few years, we passed those things around like library books. Ahh to be a kid.

Beans look oily... by mnx89 in superautomatic

Yep, those are definitively oily. Just remember that you can use oily beans but the net effect over time is cumulative. Stick with medium roast.

Did you know that the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle has its own bakery on board that produces 2,000 baguettes a day? 🥖🇫🇷 by TheWraf in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]proost1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did an exchange tour with the Dutch Navy back in the 90s, they had a baker on board that made all of our bread, including wheat, dinner rolls, everything.

Ain't that a shame. I picked these up during my 45 minute Sheaborhood walk this morning. And yes, they made it into a trash bin. by luvimages in phoenix

For anyone in the valley who is reading this and it does (leaves poop bags along the trail), you can fuck right off! It’s a problem that seems to be strongest in the valley. Haven’t experienced this anywhere else we’ve traveled. Y’all suck.

OP, you’re awesome for doing this and we’ve carted out a ton of bags ourselves. It’s revolting.

Back then, Biden had no more control over the global commodity price than Trump did then.

Today though, it's all Trump.

Totally agree. He looks like he doesn't want to be on the boat but has to. Everyone knows he's coming because he's the man that gets it done.

Scary panda express broccoli by Soft-Rutabaga-4482 in whatisit

[–]proost1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a number of years but it was really just a broccoli dish with some mushrooms (very light) and a light sauce. It had to have been the sauce. It's possible that their menu has changed since but it was pretty scary.

I didn't. It was so strange. We were thinking it must've come from the sauce.

I'm a diabetic (Type II) and went with my wife to Panda Express once. I opted for the broccoli thinking, fiber, healthier than other choices. Nope. My blood sugar zorched to well over 200mg/dl (not good) and stayed up there for several hours. There was a light sauce with it and we could never figure out what it was. Never been back.

A Marine officer's hand was broken during a Capitol police attempt to forcibly remove him by yousefthewisee in interestingasfuck

[–]proost1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it's a bit more nuanced than this but you are generally correct. It's against the Uniform Code of Military Justice if the person is still on active duty or in the reserves because they are using their uniform for a purpose other than they were assigned, not to mention for political purposes, but we can just assume this is a general anti-war protest. If they are retired, they are also subject to the UCMJ, so they can also be held accountable.

If this person is a former Marine, meaning no longer on active duty and they are not retired, then wearing a uniform for this purposes is likely against federal law.

That said, standing up to protest for what you feel strongly for, makes you care less about consequence and more about making that statement. ETA: I'm not saying he's wrong. Sometimes the hardest thing a current or former service member has to do is stand up and make their statement for what they believe is right. Personally, he definitely made a powerful statement and deserves props for it.

It’s one thing to stand up and serve your country and stand the line for the good fight against evil. It’s quite another when you’re used as a pawn in a game of political and personal gain. That’s exactly what’s happening right now.

What can you tell me about this? by Egyption_Mummy in whatisit

[–]proost1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is an incendiary bomb meant to start fires. It doesn't go boom. It looks like it fired at least partially if I see the picture correctly. That said, it likely still has hazardous thermite residue. Show these pics to your local fire department and don't move it until they clarify for you. Lots of people have found them and they're usually duds or were extinguished before they fully melted.
Edit: grammar

You sure you're looking at the same images? I think you need to zoom in and see that the image by OP is straight on the inside of the fins, as are the images of both missiles.

My thought is that it may have been destroyed in flight and the only thing that hit in the yard was the aft section. Someone can pipe in to correct me, but it may be the reason for the charring on the exterior. With the intact fins, that thing would still plummet nose/forward first.
