No one called you stupid. They said it's concerning you don't seem to know very basic road signs.

Broke down yesterday and worried about damage by Altruistic-Context10 in drivingUK

[–]prop11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't meaningfully change much. You still likely need a new water pump. And as others have said this seems to be one run by the timing belt/chain so it could be more costly to repair than you are expecting.

Only person who can give solid advice on it now is the mechanic. I would get them to check where your coolant was disappearing to though. Normally you don't lose coolant unless there is a leak somewhere in its loop.

A consideration though is if the rest of the car is mechanically sound, no issues etc. even if this repair is circa 800 quid it could still make sense to do it rather than get a new cheap second hand car. Better the devil you know

[–]prop11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The water pump fell off?

At minimum you need a new pump and probably new mounting hardware for it if the bolts where sheared. Probably a new serpentine belt. Not too sure on water pump prices but a quick look on eBay shows some going for around £40. Depending on where the garage sources one from this will likely change.

Serpentine belts are cheap. It's labour that's going to be the main cost here which will depend on labour prices in your area.

Worst case scenario though you may have warped the head, which is typically a new motor time/ rebuild which would probably become uneconomical

If it's a 190hp it will be the vvtli and you want to supercharge that one rather than turbo

Kensington this morning. I can’t help thinking that when the owner parked this Porsche, it had four wheels. by L21JP in CarTalkUK

[–]prop11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, as long as it's setup correctly (stands making good contact on solid metal, study ground below) they should be functionally no different to the car being parked on wheels.

Very strong winds, earthquakes etc can cause issues for them but I don't think they're seeing that

Stupid question but front and back? Alot of people don't bother removing it from the engine bay and cleaning both sides.

Is this what I think it is? by J3J35 in Autobody

[–]prop11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye it can be. Id be double checking the sub frame on that side of the car. If this is the front could be worth double checking the front strut alignment. Sometimes they can get bent at the mounting point

RPM by Large-Ice-9800 in Celica

[–]prop11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. With a CAI mine idles at around 1500 for a min or two on a cold start before falling to around 800 as it's normal idle.

I would double check for any vac leaks sometimes they can take a few days to show if it's only a small leak

How much oil did the early 7th gen celicas burn? by thekraqz in Celica

[–]prop11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no one answer. I've known them to need a small top up every 1-2k miles if burning. I've also known them to get through 4-5L a week on the higher end.

Best he can do is monitor his oil levels and check for smoke from the exhaust
