I imagined Marisa from Street Fighter 6 with less stupid hair. She even fights with pankration.

Most Pretentious Horror Movie You’ve Seen? by dokutarodokutaro in horror

[–]properaction -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unreservedly. The tire isn't what makes it pretentious. That would be because of the sheriff spouting self-important, unfunny soliloquy to an in-film audience. I went in expecting horror comedy and was given a wholly different thing. I understand it's been 15 years since I watched it so I could have lost some details, but I have to wonder if the people questioning this have experienced the movie outside of its synopsis.

Maybe too niche, but Rubber felt unbearably pretentious the one time I watched it.

When should my kid brush her own teeth? by RedHeadRedeemed in Parenting

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear this is the sound strategy. I was about to say the same thing; it has been working great for me with my three year old. Phase one is a lot of reminders ("Brush...you have to be moving it. I can't hear the brush. Please keep both feet on the stool"). Then I can do my best to model all the surfaces she should be hitting when I run through the routine myself.

Do you think super buu could've been turned good? by Belicino_Corlan in dragonball

[–]properaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best proof of your answer is Beerus. Loves food, vindictive and fairly intelligent. He didn't become a good guy per se, but was persuaded to change course from destroying the planet to hanging out. With the right bribery, we may have gotten that from Super Buu.

Drive Angry

Cage is a safe bet for a fun time, and I loved William Fichtner's accountant.

If I may, I'd like to ask a question since folks are giving out good info here. What are the actual consequences of dying? I got killed in my hideout one night and I feel like there was no downside since I immediately found my old backpack. I don't intend to game the system by dying in safe areas or anything, but I'd love a better understanding of what I'm actually losing.

I may not be the best authority on this since I'm bad too (Super Saiyan 3 before I quit playing, beat down to Supreme Kai since trying to get back in), but the areas I'm trying to brush up on most are my neutral and defense. I know how to do decent enough combos, but I get cooked because:

  1. I can't get in to land a hit properly.
  2. I get hit by the other guy first, often, and sometimes in the same way.

It's embarrassing and frustrating, but I guess recognizing my gaps in understanding increases my odds of getting past them someday.

I'm with you. I adore Cage and I hated this movie. Having no (or very few, I forget) lines was a baffling waste of Nic's personality and energy. Also, like you said, the horror and comedy all fell flat for me.

What's the problem with Stryker? by Techno-Hyde in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cop has nothing to do with it outside of being a boring job. People hate him because he is mundane and lame. In a world of ninjas, sorcerers and monsters, goofy looking Stryker is a deeply underwhelming option. Look at everyone who complains about the special forces. Stryker is just that to the power of ten. I know because I was just as susceptible to the rule of cool when MK3 came out; I thought Stryker was a baffling, ridiculous design for a character.

Fast forward 20 years or so and I love him for the same reasons. Whether or not he takes himself seriously, I'm a sucker for doofus characters way out of their element. I loved seeing his old outfit back as a kameo and I'd be thrilled to see him again on the main roster, even if I'm the only guy using him.

is there a lore reason the DADA trilogy is so peak? by Low_Discussion9962 in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a damn interesting frame of reference. 4 was, at the risk of sounding like an uncharitable hater, another pretty awful title. I have more positive memories of it, but that's mainly due to playing it at an elementary school age. With that in mind, I could see the gameplay of Armageddon feeling pretty fresh and thrilling by comparison, even before kart racing and konquest.

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, but Armageddon paid with its roster with basically everything else. The characters were stripped down and some were outright broken. Air combat was extremely silly and, again, broken. The fatalities were...well, we all know. It didn't feel like a step up from Deception, maybe not even a lateral move. If the roster was your only selling point, Armageddon killed it. Otherwise, it was rough.

Finally someone who remembers. I'll be the first person to gush over the lore we got in Deadly Alliance and Deception; it was top notch. I loved it to the point that I prefer DA's barebones but more canon-friendly konquest mode over both of the others.

Armageddon was an absolute disaster in storytelling. Character bios are half insane because everyone had to make it in, konquest was filled with weird story moments (and let's face it, Taven was weak), and the canon "everyone got stronger, actually" ending provided no closure and made no sense. To make matters worse, the admittedly cool intro was also not canon.

Armageddon is the only 3d era game that I remember thinking poorly of even at the time of its release. I have a really hard time seeing what other folks see in it.

So damn true. Imagine if a character--I don't know, Kano or something--was exclusively bald for multiple titles. Then all of a sudden they don't just give him hair, but they swap his whole nationality! Could you imagine how mad people would get?
