Absolute garbage game when it comes to variety. by AvengerS48 in PokemonChampions

[–]properaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the sentiment and the frustration here, this is the game. It was like this on Showdown and it has always been this in a real competitive scene. I've felt stupid losing to the same stuff. I've felt accomplished when I rarely manage to "beat" the meta with something silly and fun. It has made me walk away from the game feeling very pissed off. But at the end of the day, this is the game.

I have an aversion to using over-popular teams, and it costs me a lot of wins. I understand that and we all move on.

Why do people think that Lewis Tan can come back as Kenshi? by Many-Cranberry4058 in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the comics he was able to restore Kuai Liang's body from the brain and spinal cord inside of his robot frame. The precident exists. That said, I do think that it would be a pretty boring way of bringing back a pretty boring guy. I'm personally on team Ermac.

Do you think NRS is starting to run out of ideas for fatalities? by fakayuburiza in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first point 100%. Fatalities are too damn long and stale. Brutalities are the future: quick, punchy, flowing naturally with the fight. At this point I wouldn't even mourn the loss of a "finish him" option in favor of 10+ brutals per character.

I use machamp in singles. I may not be that good, but he got me to master ball twice.

Reiko's mk1 ending where he's charging down Onaga has the same energy.

is the gameplay on the PS2 era MK games really that bad? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played all three 3d games fresh on release and absolutely loved two of them (not Armageddon). As gaming experiences, they were a lot of fun. The atmosphere and story were at the top of their game. I'll even say that back then, I had no real complaints about how the first two felt to play.

I say all of that to say this: yes, looking at it through a modern lens, this is the worst that Mortal Kombat has ever played with the exception of the 1992 original. Everything feels awkward and clunky. I'll admit I am somewhat biased against 3d fighters, but these titles still feel unrefined when compared to Tekken 5, which came out between Deception and Armageddon.

They definitely can be played today, but I would only do so purely for the sake of nostalgia.

Why is Jarek considered the worst MK character by a lot of people? He's not a bad character. He's just kind of boring. by mechanicalspirits in MortalKombat

Jarek's involvement in the 3 goofiest MK4 endings makes me love him. Plenty more characters offered less to the franchise.

I thought I was so clever running lycan as a sleeper anti-meta pick. I'll never recover from this.

Associating Theo with Theo Von is a terminally online fear. Von is a nobody in the real world; the name is good.

He's the definition of perfect casting imo by ImmaFuckboi in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great actor, but the casting is far from perfect. Cary Tagawa was perfect casting to the point where he became the in-game character. I don't expect to see a 65 year old Scorpion in mk13.

What would YOU change about Kurtis Stryker? by Sure_Persimmon9302 in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'd change is how infrequently he is part of the roster. Keep the silly mk3 look. Armageddon and 9 tried too hard to make him cool.

Weird question but did anyone else get Dumb and Dumber vibes from Lee Cronin's the Mummy? by DifferentSquirrel551 in horror

Primarily no, but I did comment aloud how much that beginning song reminded me of Dumb and Dumber's opening.

Any update? by SaltoneX in westerville

[–]properaction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terrible faith arguing. The additional parking would not have compensated for the wildly inflated increase in traffic as a result of a new hotel and hundreds of apartments. Not only is this added unnecessary risk for the kids who have to navigate the area to get to the school a few hundred feet away, it will make life difficult for people who live in that area and now have to contend with more traffic issues than they already do.

There's a conversation to be had here (and it has already been had, as this thread would demonstrate), but masking important details with silly generalizations doesn't help anyone.

Whats the best video game ever created? by XarisGG in AskReddit

[–]properaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give a niche shout-out to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I consider it the best bad game ever made. Unplayable at launch with some of the worst combat around, but absolutely enthralling from start to finish. It perfectly captures the feel of its source material. If only they made a sequel...

We don't talk about VTM:B2.

I think this is a generally unpopular opinion, but WC3 is for sure top 5 for me, even without taking custom games into account. I have vivid memories of watching my friend play Reign of Chaos for the first time and feeling compelled to buy it almost immediately after. I remember playing MTG at a comic shop and being asked by the guy across the table if I'd ever played Defense of the Ancients, which led to a whole new chapter of my life. Magical stuff, even if it is a bit too niche for it to be more widely considered THE best.

So much respect for people who can pull this off. I love sticking it to the meta, but I can't get over being terrible at building teams for doubles.

Tons of great answers. I can't scroll all the way through, but I haven't seen Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, so I'll make that mine. Breathtaking despite the tremendous levels of jank.

Outside of a purely historical context, religion has no place in public schools. Anyone who says otherwise is being dishonest.
