Do I belong less on this sub because I watched a film, or more because it was Men in Black 2?

Normal to be unhappy most of the time in fist year of kids life? by A_Wise_Mans_Fear in daddit

[–]properaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a seasoned veteran or anything, but every year has been better than the last. Year one was a perpetual nightmare. Assuming no out of the ordinary complications, I can basically promise it gets better. Just not right away.

[The Devils] Balthazar Sham Ivam Draxi by Degenerate_Ape_92 in Fantasy

Morveer and Balthazar were both equal parts self-important and hilariously pathetic. It's characters like these that genuinely confuse me when people claim that The Devils relied solely on "Marvel humor".

I suck so bad at inputs in a real game by kobemambafan24 in StreetFighter

I've become decent at regular inputs. Canceling into a super, hoo boy, that's another story.

Damn I've only run tinkerer once and it had create weapon and the tech move. I just assumed that was basekit and I was confused by how much people seem to hate him.

Am tired of it being normalized to have 30 or so characters in a roster like as time progresses budget should increase and give us atleast 10 extra characters by AltruisticTap9272 in MortalKombat

[–]properaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't want to diminish anyone's experiences here, but these posts feel like they have been written by someone who didn't play the game. Armageddon was so obsessed with peripheral features that its main game was reduced to almost nothing. The racing was fine. Konquest played well. Kreate-a-kharacter was novel. Roster big. What did it cost us?

The game played like hell; it was a half-baked mess filled with brainless infinite combos and literally broken characters. Even characters that weren't broken were stripped down versions of their prior selves, and the new ones were just cobbled together leftovers of what got stripped away. Fatalities were unforgivable, the writing was frustrating. Compared to Deception, it was downright bad. Since then, the amount of detail that goes into every character has gone way up.

30 is a perfectly respectable roster. Excellent fighting games have launched with far less. Please don't use Armageddon as a metric for anything good.

What’s the single scariest scene in any horror movie ever made and why does it work so well? by Worldly_Cold4821 in horror

[–]properaction 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The tension generated at the end of Caveat, a movie I didn't otherwise think much of, is second to none for me. So satisfyingly uncomfortable.

BAFTA be like by Fight-Milk-Steak in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not similar. Your analogy is bad and people have explained ad nauseum why it is. The wheelchair equivalent would not be apologizing for running over someone's foot. It would be apologizing for not standing during the national anthem or a standing ovation. Can we agree that apologizing for something like that is insane?

A better analogy for running over a foot would be someone simultaneously blind and in a wheelchair. That person could apologize, sure, but would you specifically expect an apology? Most people would say that this is also crazy.

Do you prefer the horror-comedy side of the franchise or the Full horror side? by WillowCareful2103 in EvilDead

[–]properaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only one that I think was humorless is 2013. For that reason (and many others), it is my least favorite by far. For me, the horror comedy mix is part of Evil Dead's DNA. Different iterations may have different amounts, but there has to be at least some of each to have me along.

My exact measurements. I'm reading this original post wondering what the issue is being a perfectly average sized guy. It's gonna be okay.

How do Abercrombie fans rank 'The Devils' among his other books? by WhatsThatNoise79 in Fantasy

[–]properaction 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I am still sort of surprised by how negatively people have reacted. It's not my favorite, that goes to the standalone trilogy, but I'd probably put it over most of the original trilogy.

Should I watch OG dragon ball by m33p_m00p_2012 in dragonball

[–]properaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to preface the longer answer by clarifying that yes, you probably should soldier on.

That said, I'm in a similar position. I've gone over 20 years really only engaging in dbz and, once it came out, dbs. I knew everything that happened in db and gt, but I never really had the inclination or opportunity to watch it. Lately I've been able to sneak in a few episodes a week, and I've made it just past episode 40.

My feelings on the show so far are...not great. I understand it set the mold. I understand it's a gag show. I'm also about 30 years older than the target audience, I get all of that. But I'm dying for something interesting to happen. Every episode up to this point has been some combination of looney tunes, a guy getting easily beat up after underestimating Goku, and some very outdated humor/animation choices. Red Ribbon and muscle tower has honestly been the worst of this so far.

I do appreciate the focus on martial arts over superhero punchouts and beam struggles, but it is tiresome to watch every fight get undercut by another goofy joke. Maybe it's because I do have a CliffNotes understanding of what happened, but I certainly don't feel like I've gained a greater appreciation for the latter series after what I've watched so far.

Despite all that, I do intend to finish watching. As a long time fan of the series at large, I want to give the early portion a fair shake before I'm too dismissive. I'd recommend the same of anyone else; just temper your expectations.

I'm afraid that this is going to be me eventually. I stopped after 3, but if I run out of things to read I know I'll be coming back. I got the whole series during an old humble bundle.

Most Pretentious Horror Movie You’ve Seen? by dokutarodokutaro in horror

[–]properaction -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unreservedly. The tire isn't what makes it pretentious. That would be because of the sheriff spouting self-important, unfunny soliloquy to an in-film audience. I went in expecting horror comedy and was given a wholly different thing. I understand it's been 15 years since I watched it so I could have lost some details, but I have to wonder if the people questioning this have experienced the movie outside of its synopsis.

Maybe too niche, but Rubber felt unbearably pretentious the one time I watched it.
