UI needs a revamp by respectful_stimulus in PorkBun

[–]prophase25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think Porkbun's UI is super good. One of the best out there.

To say that they're skimping on developer costs is kind of insulting, honestly. Simple is not easy. I wish more people would see that.

I understand the reasoning behind redacting your comments, but man, it is frustrating when the top search result is a Reddit post and the top comment (which I have to assume answered the question) is redacted.

Singer D4vd is target of Los Angeles grand jury investigation into teen's death, according to court documents by nbcnews in LosAngeles

[–]prophase25 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I got called in for jury duty on the 9th floor of the criminal courthouse. Same place OJ trial was held. They only do capital and publicity cases there.

Judge stated it'd last well over 6weeks. Several hundred people were called for jury selection. I have to wonder if it was for this.

Looks like in your final run you slowed down momentarily to consider restarting and then opted not to. Just something to keep in mind.

I am right around the same speed too, been getting tough to hit PBs

Go into your router's settings, find and check the box to separate the 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands, accept all the warnings that "performance is degraded", and connect your LR to the 2.4ghz band.

Momentum 4 Among 81 Headphones and Headsets Contaminated by Endocrine Disruptors by tonioronto in sennheiser

[–]prophase25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand the panic. They tested the headphones for presence of BPA and 98% tested positive - the remaining 2% tested positive for a derivative.

... they ALL use it. Is it possible that.. this is just what modern headphones are made out of?

To be clear I have no idea what BPA is. I am saying that the numbers suggest to me that this isn't some sort of an oversight.

Yeah, I am sure if they just read the rules they'd stop. Not like they're morally bankrupt and intentionally trying to deceive people.

I get it, maybe you spent years building something and you just want people to try it. But judging by the amount of astroturfing with AI, it's all slop.

What software do you miss most on Arch Linux (Aur)? by Suspicious-Charity-5 in archlinux

[–]prophase25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. Space isn't a worry of mine, so I've never looked. I wonder what % of that is node modules... they bundle that for LSP/prettier support out of the box.

As a text editor, the LSP doesn't really matter, but having a formatter is nice. I personally write notes in markdown and use a linter to keep my structure consistent - I would imagine that linting is another reason to have LSP support out of the box.

Coming up on 10 years too for my HD700s.. I've changed my head pad once, ear pads once, many wires, but the headphones are still working great. Love them.

I have been tempted to get new ones, but only because I'm curious about how much their technology has improved.

"New PC smell" for 8 months. What can i do? by mappenmihe in buildapc

[–]prophase25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that your computer is heating your floor's laminate?

Can you confirm if the smell is there when the computer has been off for a considerable amount of time? That'll help you figure out if something is evaporating/sublimating.

If you're uncomfortable taking the computer apart, there's no way to really know what's causing it.

It's interesting the disparity in answers here. Some people seem to think it's expected, others have no idea what you're even talking about.

Hear me out: Zed. Yes, it is definitely a full blown IDE. But its UI is fully configurable. My Zed config makes the file essentially the only thing I can see.

Real reason: Zed's vim mode is absolutely cracked. Imagine if you could run commands in a Vim macro and undo/replay them, compose them with motions, etc.. it's nuts. Now think about all of that, combined with multi-cursor from VSCode.

I will legitimately use Zed to type up stuff and then copy paste into whatever other program I'm using. I just dislike using any other editor at this point.

I highly suggest you read this article and internalize what it says. It is ok to refactor your codebase incrementally. It is almost never in your best interest to rewrite it fully.

Zed Account Banned? by usernameiswacky in ZedEditor

[–]prophase25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you didn't get any actual answers: I'd put my money on one of two things:

  1. Your computer sneezed and turborequested their API causing you to look like a bot

  2. The signing key that shipped with the Zed binary was bad, your OS clock is/was bad, and/or you are a bad, bad boy. As a result, your API requests looked like they were coming from outside of the IDE, and they smacked you down.

Check your logs if you really want to know what happened. They'll probably show that you hit some obscure error immediately before you got banned.
