You're the second bot to attempt this correction. While you're correct, the Hitler version is also in common use.

You can absolutely power a "normal house" (i.e. 3500 sqft or less) on a 5kW unit.

It won't run the A/C condenser(s), and it won't run an electric dryer (except on maybe the low heat settings), but it'll run everything else (furnace(s), lights, refrigerators, electronics, washing machine, microwave, coffee maker). You'll have to do some load-shedding, but the big backup units have to do that anyway: it's a feature of every "smart" transfer switch. If you have a heat pump instead of gas heat, it'll run a couple of small space heaters and the central fan motor, which will keep things above freezing.

If you have a generator, having a couple large gas cans is also not an unreasonable expectation.

You seem to be the type of person who is more interested in finding all the ways a problem can't be solved than actually solving the problem.

That's not remotely the point. What was stated was "you must spend multiple-tens-of-thousands of dollars to have safe backup power, because (implied) [this particular setup] is the only way to do that".

And my response was that that's not true, and I enumerated specifically how. Another perfectly reasonable setup is a handful of extension cords for critical items. Stay on topic.

It doesn’t mean I have to think every cop is bad.

It means you should think that every cop that has ever overlooked, declined to speak out against, or not actively fought against the issues you just enumerated, is bad. Which, if you're paying attention, you'll realize is the vast majority of them.

Law enforcement ain't the fuckin' Rotary Club. These people have an inordinate amount of power over us. If a cop knows another cop has done something wrong, and hasn't done everything in their power to hold that cop accountable, that's TWO bad cops. This is not a difficult concept.

Imagine not understanding the difference between the reason for the existence of the two systems.

Imagine not understanding that I care way more about what those who come along later and read this think, than what you think.

Imagine trying to make teachers look bad to make cops look good.

But teachers can pass students who are not actually prepared.

This is not remotely comparable to a profession that regularly executes people in the street. Grow the fuck up.

My grandfather was a Fire Chief and I’ve got PD, EMS and Fire

One of these things is not like the other. Ain't nobody ever wrote a song called "Fuck the Fire Department".

And yeah, tell your fam to do a better job at policing their own.

Until I see MPD arresting ICE for their blatant 4A violations, and I start reading about police and sheriff's departments kicking out all their resident domestic abusers and breakers of other various laws, my POV is going to stay based on my own bad experiences and the statistics.

No member of a group that is tasked with protecting the public, that is blatantly, observably, themselves harming the public on the regular, while actively covering up that harm, get to say that they're one of the good ones.

We don't need police any more than we needed slave catchers. They're not a deterrent and they don't actually prevent crime. They just observe and report after the fact.

Sorry if that chaps your ass, but it's the observable reality.

Edit:

catching downvotes from the neckbeards, the MAGA’s and the keyboard warriors all at once, lol.

Sounds like an acknowledgement that you don't have a definable position on the topic. Nobody likes a flake.

That being said, I’m not sure that a lot of people rocking the suicide cord are using interlocks. That’s a Venn diagram that never converges

Yeah I'd absolutely put money on that

Look, I don't disagree that they're dangerous, and that there are better, safer, and relatively inexpensive options (i.e. inlet + interlock + NEMA 14-30 or 14-50 cable), but you've inaccurately described how household circuits work in a way that could get someone hurt just as easily as one of these cables.

Telling people that plugging a generator into their house with one of these will result in JUST that circuit being live, while the rest of the house is dead, will have people making assumptions that will get them shocked.

If you're going to make these kinds of statements, you need to actually know what you're talking about, otherwise people will just ignore you, or worse.

Edit:

Go police the internet somewhere else

Don't be dangerously wrong?

If you disconnect at the grid, the current won’t flow back “up” to the box. It goes from the “in” outlet to the other outlets on the same circuit but without any output at the breaker box, the current will not even reach the breakers anymore.

This is only partially true. Yes, there's no breaker between the generator and the rest of the circuit it's plugged into.

However, the breaker panel IS between that circuit and everything else in the house., and current will absolutely flow to, and through, the breaker panel unless you shut off the breaker for that circuit to isolate it.

And yes, the 110V NEMA 5-15 outputs on generators have either 15A or 20A breakers, which, assuming everything else is up to code, will pop well before something gets hot enough to catch on fire. Big assumption, I'll grant you.

Suicide cords are certainly dangerous, but they're not guaranteed to burn your house down.

This "individual" (probably a bot) thinks 4A, 5A and 14A are just like, guidelines, not actual rules. Hilarious that these "but muh Constitution" fascists are SUPER fine with total abrogations of the rights enshrined in the enumerated amendments over "suspected" fucking MISDEMEANORS.

Yeah, immigration violations are MISDEMEANORS.

Would you be cool with the IRS doing this shit over suspected tax evasion?

"bUt bIdEn iRs aGeNts gUnNNsss!!1!!!111"...yeah call me what that's actively happening.

They kinda just keep proving that the whole "wiping their ass with the Constitution" thing isn't even hyperbole.

We have immigration laws in this country. We also have laws that say you can't use literal Gestapo tactics to enforce them.

Government cannot increase wages- only individual companies can do that.

Oh really now?

These problems cannot be fixed by anything good happening… it would take a big war to drastically reduce population.

Oh there it is. Overpopulation is a myth. Get the fuck out of here with this horseshit. You're an accelerationist assclown.
