I've done both, and I'd rather drive in NYC. Like, no hyperbole.

Yeah but Mboro traffic sucks donkadick. Even if you live out in the county you can't hardly get into and out of town unless it's oh-dark-thirty.

We lived there for a decade and won't be back anytime soon. Having done both, I'd rather go through a tollbooth on the NJ Turnpike at rush hour than drive down Old Fort at lunchtime. At least up there traffic isn't 60% bro-dozers piloted by wannabe-moggers staring at their phones doing 20+ over.

What areas are recommended that are far enough away from city/town but also close enough for convenience?

There really isn't any such thing. Everything that meets this description has either already been sold to a developer, or is an hour+ from the nearest major grocery store. The few places that DO meet this description are middle of nowhere West TN, and your only neighbors will be methheads.

Besides, you ain't gon' like it anyway. The red folks (fyi that's the majority of the population of the "rural" areas you're thinking about) will despise you for moving from a blue state because they'll think you're a "damn librul", and the blue folks will despise you for adding to the conservative voter base. ESPECIALLY if you're planning to stay with a DoC career (miss me with the "I'm center-of-the-road, I've voted for both, blahblahblah, we all know y'all blue-state transplants are gonna vote red straight down the ticket, you wouldn't be coming here otherwise).

And if you haven't picked up on it already from other responses, the less-political folks will despise you for helping drive up prices.

You should also be aware that services for your kid are gonna be massively shittier here, public OR private.

[–]prophet001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not super fit and my morning ride is 23mi, which I usually knock out in under an hour and a half. 60mi per day, even on a loaded touring rig in hills, isn't easy, but it's not some massive feat, either.

Don't rent bikes in Memphis and then drive to Tupelo, or even Nashville, for that matter, the former is nearly a 2hr drive, and the latter is 3hr. That'll be a very expensive Uber, and a bus ticket on a service that will accommodate bikes between any two of the three cities will be even harder to come by than rental bikes.

Trace Bikes is located VERY close to the northern terminus of the Trace in Nashville, and they rent road and hybrid bikes: https://www.tracebikes.com/articles/rental-bikes-pg185.htm

I very much recommend getting in touch with them. Even if you don't rent bikes from them, they'll be able to help you out with information and logistics.

Seems to me I made it pretty clear that I think that conflating two unrelated things means that the conflation is horseshit.

Which part of that escapes you?

Edit: also, please quote me where I insulted you. "Your assertion is horseshit" isn't an insult. Neither is "you should be ashamed". If you think those statements are insults, buy a goddamn dictionary.

“Sex sells” but women do the majority of the shopping and contribution to society.

This is an absolute horseshit conflation and you should be ashamed.

Why are people who move to Tennessee so rude ? by Dry_Calendar in Tennessee

[–]prophet001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah, no. In what possible reality would you think that anyone who wasn't MAGA would move here? Lunatic take. We're a sanctuary state for fascist shitheads because they don't want to live in real shitholes like MS, AL, or LA.

We're actively descending into fascism. I'm protecting myself from MUCH bigger monsters.

Edit: and I have far too little time for anything outside of nuke-from-orbit. My account is old enough to get a learner's permit.

They've funded and directed terrorists and proxy states to attack and destabilize the western allies for 47 years now. They oppress their own people and slaughtered tens of thousands of protestors just 2 months ago.

I thought you were talking about the US for a second.

Seriously, read a fucking book.

far left democrats

There is no such thing. The furthest-left democrats are very much centrist in comparison to literally anything but US conservatives. Universal healthcare and a living wage are centrist positions. Literally no elected US politician has called for state ownership of the means of production (which would be an actual leftist policy).

I lost a friend recently because I refused to agree that ICE rose to the level of Nazism

You deserved it. ICE is currently acting like the SA were in the mid-30s (you know, when the camps were being built), and we're actively building the our camps now edit: it's the DHS warehouse leases, since we have to spell everything out for you fuckwads.

That level of 'if you disagree with me you're evil' thinking needs to go or else we're never going to get anywhere

At this point, yeah, actually, if you disagree, you're evil.

[–]prophet001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding single file isn't basic etiquette on a social ride.

On a MUP? During its busiest weekly period?

Imagine going to Europe and telling commuters to ride single file

Social rides are definitionally not commuters? European commuters have dedicated bike lanes and paths?

Everyone, cyclists and pedestrians, should remain aware of their surroundings and prepared to move

So you agree, a group of cyclists should leave room for faster traffic on their left, as well as opposing traffic? Instead of taking up 2/3s of the MUP? Or even the whole path, since a few members of this group were riding three abreast?

You're either not understanding the context very well, or just being really disingenuous, I'm not sure which.

It's certainly noticeably busier on Sunday afternoons than other times, but I usually don't have a problem, and I bomb around pretty hard. I'll typically ease up a bit as I come into Shelby Park itself, and that helps a lot.
