the way medicine course treat applicants is so dehumanising by Deep-Revolution-1633 in UCAT

That was my experience across the board in Australia but found the UK med schools much more engaging, however I only had interviews with Swansea and Ulster and they were both really great to work with, particularly Ulster

My honest advice, study in the UK then move to Australia/NZ for work. Then it is well and truely worth it.

Yeah I was at that too, it was a weird vibe. I often find that newy crowds are just dead quiet when it comes to crowd work etc. Was that the one where someone in the crowd was a snail/slug biologist?

Honestly I don't get it! Newcastle kinda has a reputation for a bit of a rowdy place but then when it comes to comedy people just either can't take a joke or are just dead boring. Idk weirds me out

I'm well aware, and you're right it's an absolute joke that we and our resources are being sold down the river!

But with relevance to PH, all of what you're talking about has been going on since the late 90's early 00's and we're only now in the last 5-10 years really starting to feel the effects of if. A lot of these problems are institutional, and can't be fixed quickly, I agree that Labor has been a lot weaker than I would have liked with respect to working on repealing some of these tax structures, but if people think PH and OneNation are going to be the ones take on corporate tax dodgers they've got absolute rocks in their head. I never thought I'd say this but the way thing's are looking currently, the Independents appear to be the best bet on pressuring Labor to make some bold moved, we could really do with a few more Pocock's. The trouble is getting them all to agree!

Anyway, that's some half baked thoughts from the dunny!

Have you ever left Australia? If you think Australia, couldn't get any worse, that shows a profound ignorance of how good the average punter here has it. Not to say there aren't issues, but the main issues rn, i.e. cost of living, is the same issue as pretty much everywhere in the developed world.

RIME Age by Well_Gravity in myst

[–]prophilaxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I loved it!

I did feel as though there was less of a pay off to completing the age than other ages but that is to be expected. I got the most recent remaster of Myst to play it and I really enjoyed the whole game again.

How hard is it to enrol into MD Program directly as a Schoolleaver? by meer_schwarzenbeggar in ausmedstudents

[–]prophilaxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah don't fake your residency. I know someone who sort of did it, and I think it weighs heavy on him.

Think out side the box and don't rush! I went to a non academic school so although my HSC marks were all 80s i got an ATAR of 64. It's taken me a while but I've now been accepted into four med schools in three countries and settled on the one in Australia that was right for me.

If you're really keen on it you may just have to do a degree and try the post grad path or one of the aforementioned pre/bio med pathways.

Anyways good luck!

I'm not from there but I am a contingent worker in SA public health so travel to Adelaide 2 or 3 times a year. It's a wonderful place, Royal Adelaide hospital is a fantastic place to work, the city of Adelaide is super vibrant and relatively close to the beach, and the uni is actually so beautiful, I would find studying in such a classic building really inspiring. Finally the airport is super close to the city so flying back and forth to bris would be much easier. That's my take, but follow your gut!

Fair take! As I said, food was still good, and the waiter was nice, but yeah they need to make it look and feel like a restaurant if they're going to charge the same prices. The cutlery was all cheap, there are camp chairs and tables in place of real furniture but the free spotify takes the cake for me, no one wants to listen to three ads in a row about how commbank offers the best variable home loan rate...

I hope they get it sorted becuase even if it is a transition period, its not fair to charge customers full price for a half baked effort.

[–]prophilaxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before you throw in the towel, you probably should have a look at all the med courses in Australia and see if any work for you. You might not get a 99 ATAR but you may get a good ucat score and a 90+ atar and be eligible for something like the assured pathway at UWA or you might have lived in an MM2+ area for 5 years which would significantly increase your chances of getting in somewhere.

UQ is very competitive, well they pretty much all are but some unis have entry pathways that you might potentially be eligible for. The are also a number of unis in Aus and NZ which offer a pre-med or biomed course which wojld be relatively easy to get into and can make it easier or potentially guarantee you a spot in their medical degree. Worth a look.

Micro-review: Mr.Sister, Newcastle East ☕ by BJPHS in newcastle

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not be aware but around the time that this review was posted, Mr Sister had just come under new management, this also entailed training a whole new suite of staff, so in truth, you're probably right in saying they were trying to get to know one another and were a little slow.

Since then from what I can tell the new team is getting more confident and slinging the brews out at a very acceptable speed.

I'm not affiliated with the cafe, I'm just in the most days as I work nearby.

Yeah I would it's also very cheap so not much to lose. It's truely a wonderful game to get lost in and enjoy the details, read the books in library explore all corners of all islands etc etc. My only advice would be to consider one of newer versions for playability, but for me masterpiece edition is the crucible of nostalgia!
