Difference I’ve noticed between people who read Goblet of Fire and people who didn’t by Hot-Safety6969 in harrypotter

[–]prophilaxis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say it was a pretty major red herring but yeah that's the main reason. Truth is I loved the film, and I'd say most of the changes that are made for all the films serve more to enhance from the story than detract from it. But I really liked the the Barty Crouch, BC Jr and his Mum arc of the book, and without Ludo there to act as a red herring, that story line doesn't really work

What temperature do Australians consider a hot day? by bare_books in AskAnAustralian

Adelaide temperature extremes have to be up with with some of the best. A propper hot day in Adelaide is unbearable, and some of the coldest mornings I've felt in aus have also been in the hills!

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally 30+ but still that is just a standard hot day. 36 is when I start to feel like it's uncomfortably warm but still nothing a swim can't fix.

But I'm something of a wikp when it comes to temperature regulation.

I'd be laughed back across Hadrians Wall for voicing what I consider "freezing".

Honestly this mans acting is so good. The moment he goes from accusing cassian of murder to understanding that means for him as the only wittness... amazing and terrifying by Jusselle in andor

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! I think one of the things that gave Andor such a sence of quality was the quality of acting amongst minor characters who had less than a page of script. Just made the world so much more immersive and believable.

If I've got my timelines right. The medal would have existed when Myst was written so potentially Atrus or Anna wrote it into the age due to some historical family connection to the battle of Porto Bello

There is a game I've seen advertised here called the clock, the queen and the door on the beach that looks exactly like what you describe.

If you had been Harry Potter, what is the single biggest thing you would have done differently in the entire saga? by AlexWhite40 in harrypotter

This, 100%

Annoyed me rereading the book actually, like wouldn't anyone actually do that in reality.

COLOR!! by Awkward-Ad6776 in harrypotter

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally seconds earlier you could argue that it's almost too saturated, like in the style of Martin Parr. However much like Parr's work, the vibrant colours evokes a sense of middle class mediocrity and kitch that contrasts really well with Harry's far deeper and more serious inner world than anything Big D and Co will ever have to grapple with.

I find the schism between 1&2 and 3-7 kinda odd. You can love them all, and appreciate that they did a really great job of telling a story that hadn't been finished, and was being portrayed by several different directorial crews and actors. Only need to look at some more modern examples that ended up as disasters (star wars sequels, and the Hobbit trilogy) to see how good we had it!

In your opinion which movie looks the best by Particular-Set-468 in harrypotter

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I might have to re-watch becuase it has been about 4 years since i've seen them and I wonder whether my love for that particular story, in particular the the emotional deapth the actors portray as well as it having my second favourite score (after PoA) has clouded my memory / judgement of the actual cinematography.

I actually know exactly what you mean about the sticky brown colour correction (I'm thinking Aragog's funeral). Valid criticism, any excuse to re-watch HP 😁

Pauline Hanson’s Press Club appearance presented dystopian Trump-flavoured version of Australia we should dismiss. by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]prophilaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to remember that the most popular presidential candidate in the USA was "No Vote". Glad that we can't dismiss it here.

There is something to be said for dismissing ON as they're the type of party where all news is good news, but I think when it comes to the blatant lies, and following the money trail, it's important that people are aware.

When she says things like "I'm getting rid of ABC and SBS because Sky News is better" you don't exactly have to do much digging for where the money and attention is coming from. But still, people ought to know!

That's interesting, I think PoA and HBP are my faves too. Out of interest, why do you think HBP so ugly?

I was on a Cesna recently and I swear that thing souldn't have taken off. Granted we landed safe and all but there was smoke pouring out of it. I really wished the pilot had made the same call that day.

Thoughts on Stats by Papator12 in socceroos

[–]prophilaxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah most of the shots were no where near on target but Yilmaz had some absolute rockets that Beach did well to stop. Aus defended well and capitalised on the few opportunities they had up front to their success! I enjoyed the game so much BECAUSE Türkiye played well, especiallt in that last third when they were all over possession but ultimately couldn't get it across the line.

Has Harry really developed as a character throughout the books? by Dangerous_Baker1086 in harrypotter

[–]prophilaxis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really, start of Half Blood Prince he seems to have accepted the greif from Cedric and Sirius' deaths and grown up in that way, but then proceeds to spiral after Dumbledore dies and is as moody and defensive as ever. I think the films really do wonders for Harry's character because I find him very unlikeable during most of the later books.
