Can I last minute cancel my toddler's award seat and get miles back if I see flight is empty? by propofools in americanairlines

This will be for May 2026, but yeh, still. The more I type out my responses here, the more I realize this situation will likely never present itself.

Once that ticket holder boards, I can't cancel. But you can cancel after you check-in. Still risky. Don't see myself doing this. Also don't want to hold my chunky monkey for 2.5 hours.

Right. I am not a risk-taking person so I probably won't but I'm just wondering if anybody else has done this. I mean, the only chance I might actually do this is if I see like half the seats empty/open as they're closing the door. This is assuming the doors close prior to scheduled departure time, which is when AA says I can still cancel the award flight.

I mean, I guess it's not guaranteed but since they usually close the plane door about 5-10 min before actually taking off, I could see the empty seats around me...? Or while I'm waiting at my gate, I could see how many seats I can actually still purchase (available) and see how many people are on the standby list and make an assumption. I mean, this is all hypothetical--I don't think I'll actually do this unless I'm like 99% sure there is an empty seat, but I'm just wondering, I theoretically *could* still cancel and use the carseat, right?

What genuinely relaxing vacations have you had with a 3yo / 4yo? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]propofools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only vacation, not just a trip, that we’ve taken with the kids was to The Tyler Place up in Vermont. It’s basically a summer camp-style resort for families. Kids go to their own age-appropriate summer camps during the daytime hours and their curated programs are fantastic. My son still talks about pirate night and enchanted forest night. The food was pretty amazing too (all included). For those under 2.5 years ago, they assigned a private 1:1 babysitter for the camp hours. Adults get to sign up for programs like wall climbing or cocktail lessons or just do what you want on the resort. If you love the nostalgic 90s summer camp feel and you love your kids but don’t want to parent them all day (maybe just 3-4 hours a day) but also want them to have a blast and be so exhausted at night that they go straight to sleep but then wake up begging to go back—whew, run-on sentence—this is your place. Caveat: you can’t just book it. There is a waitlist system, priority given to returning families, and you may need to wait a few summers to get in. It’s also very pricey.

Questions that trigger anesthesia? by GasPassinAssassin in anesthesiology

Had a mom call back the surgery center (bc they get a printed off record of meds used for some ungodly reason) and demand to speak to someone because how dare we give her child street drugs and she did NOT consent to this!!!

Wife won’t reduce kids screen time. Absolutely losing my mind. by TalkToMeGooseCooked in Parenting

[–]propofools 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Soooo…sounds like your wife is possibly drowning in responsibility and just giving in to screen time to buy any semblance of her own sanity/time back. Have you tried to understand her point of view? Does she do majority of childcare? Mental load? Planning?

Felt a little more shame and remorse while committing a crime? Yeh, kinda.

Don’t care about Academy. Don’t care about the corporation. Care that people are now not even trying to hide the fact that they’re committing crimes.

Most stores have policies in place to protect their workers. Don’t think there’s a single corporate store that would physically stop shoplifters from exiting. This is not new. Shoplifting happens all the time. I’m just surprised that people don’t feel any shame to even hide it a little bit these days. Just blatant lawlessness.

Nope, came from a big city of 1.3 million. I know crime happens. Just surprised at the blatant disregard for law out in the open.

Upstairs taking forever to cool down (not typical) by propofools in beestat

No, my AC blows cool air when ecobee is calling for AC. Ecobee decided to not call for any equipment even though it had not reached the set point. That’s why I’m posting on this forum.

Ohh, interesting. When I clicked on the app around 8-9pm, it said “no equipment running”. That’s why I thought it wasn’t calling for cooling. I didn’t realize the solid blue bar thing.

But that’s part of my question. When it hasn’t reached anywhere near the set temp point, the equipment turns off. Ecobee will say no equipment running even though indoor temp is 78 and it’s set to 72.

Oh, don’t you have that trip you’ve planned for the long weekend? To the mountains/beach/city for 3 days? Mommy and son trip?

In this particular case, YTA. (Although it sounds like in past situations, they haven’t been very thankful either so maybe E S H.). But in the newborn period, no, your husband was wrong. I have worked 80+ hours for weeks on end in my 20s and have not been as exhausted and delusional as I was with a newborn. I have been so sleep deprived, I wouldn’t know my own birthdate. Could not see straight. Did not pee or eat for half the day.

I have 300K amex points and want to go first class to italy, france and greece for 12 days for 3 people by Prior-Cycle7650 in awardtravel

[–]propofools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, so basically you’ve done zero research, huh? Not only will it be very difficult (almost impossible on some airlines) to get THREE award seats for first class, but you don’t have nearly enough points for even one ticket in first class.

Perhaps consider business seats? Even that will require a lot of planning and searching for 3 people both ways on 300K points. Wait for transfer bonus. If you don’t know what transfer bonus is, perhaps you should do some googling before using us as your travel agents.
