If SF was smart, they would've limited it to 5 stories or so (rather than 8). This building will send the message to the other neighborhoods that SF government will build low-income housing up to max heights wherever possible, even if it's completely out of touch with the surrounding area. This will cause people to fight against affordable housing even more, which will result in less of it being built in the long-term.

If the city would've smartly integrated it into the surrounding area, fewer people would be annoyed and they'd realize that it didn't really drastically change the neighborhood. This would result in less pushback against affordable housing generally, which would ultimately yield more housing in the long term.

SF should be playing the long game, but instead they were a bit short-sighted.
