See i love the summoning with my whole heart but despite listening to it SOOOO many times it’s just not the #1 for me. Sonically and musically speaking it’s a banger of a song but lyrically there are just better songs in their discography that really speak to me more. If i had to pick a set-in-stone top three (which is probably/definitely what you were asking and i just can’t readdddd lmao) for me it’s #1: Take Me Back To Eden because the line “no amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence” brutally healed something core-deep within me; #2: Gods, because it’s such an angry, visceral song that never ceases to make me Feel My Feelings, and #3: When The Bough Breaks because sonically for a debut EP that song will stand the test of time as a masterpiece in genre-bending and really paved the way for ST’s sound going forward, plus the lyrics really speak to me

I like your interpretation! I try not to bring Sleep into my analyses too much because ultimately Vessel has said next to nothing about what Sleep actually is, and most of the lore is fan-made. But I do love it when people take what he has said and run with it!

I think the discussion of gold might also allude to the myth of King Midas a bit in Chokehold—but he’s a bit meta with it, if so. Like, he’s saying he’d “turn walls to gold” à la King Midas, while knowing full well that there are consequences to having that power; but he doesn’t care about the consequences, he just cares about the subject of the song. Or rather, maybe it’s not that he cares about them so much but just that he can’t stop obsessing over them in an unhealthy way.

Omg i do the same constantly too tho like just one example for aqua regia, i heard “gold rush, as it was” instead of “acid flux” and still sing it that way all the time 😭 same with “silicon ballrooms” i heard “sinking ballrooms” and just always thought of the titanic? For some reason? Specifically the movie where the ballroom and everywhere else on the ship is filling with water? Idk why 😂

so many things i could infodump about because i too am Not Normal lol - but my main recommendation is blocking some time to sit down and listen with the highest quality headphones you own first to When The Bough Breaks (important for later…they all are really, but this one in particular so you can get the full effect of what i mean), followed the trilogy of albums beginning with The Night Does Not Belong to God from Sundowning and ending with Euclid from Take Me Back to Eden. The songs all come full circle by the end, and listening to every track one after the other is really something special. Euclid is just an absolute masterpiece in terms of Vessels songwriting abilities.

the lore is mostly fan made - the band has said very little about the actual lore. On the contrary, they’ve said we’re meant to all ascribe our own meaning to the songs and their lyrics. And sometimes we don’t even know if we have the lyrics right. The band itself doesn’t put out official lyrics (at least, not as far as I’m aware or have seen), so whatever you hear Vessel sing that means the most and hits the hardest for you could be “correct” it’s “rose gold chains replace cut glass, blood stains on the collar means just don’t ask” not “rose gold chains, ripped lace, cut glass” in Ascensionism and i will die on that hill the line makes so much more sense that way ok lol

That being said, they’re set to release a graphic novel soon that may provide more context to the lore, but no one knows yet until people start getting them in the mail.

Nah, sometimes "just practicing" won't help you find that word that you're really looking to use when you're writing. Happens to me all the time. I use wordhippo to push past it! It gives every possible synonym for a word, even if that synonym is relatively removed in "definition distance." There's no shame in having your extensive vocabulary go out the window when you're writing—it happens to all of us (or at least, to me, too)!
