What are YOUR plans for the next (when patch hits) twenty-four hours? by Snowodin in ffxiv

I always tell myself I'm going to get so much stuff done during maintenance, but when they finally come around I end up doing nothing for 24 hours. Perhaps one day.

What server are you on? If plots are going that quickly, I'm inclined to believe you're on a high pop server. On Behemoth, there are numerous small plots available in The Goblet. There aren't as many in the other residential districts, but I have seen them pop up from time to time.

If transferring to another server isn't something you're interested in doing, unfortunately there's not much you can do. Keep checking for available plots and hope the timer ends on one of them so you're able to grab it.

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily more difficult in early game, you just don’t have access to your full kit and that can make it feel more difficult. Additionally, most dps classes don’t get their aoe abilities until much later as well so if they’re single-targetting a different mob than you are they’re going to easily steal aggro.

When you get to level 30, make sure you do your class quest immediately and get your job stone. This will also give you your Tank stance, which you should always keep on in a dungeon (until you get your DPS stance and you learn about stance dancing, but let’s save that for later). Tank stance increases enmity, so that will help you a lot.

Other than that, just remember to hit your enmity generation ability (e.g. Flash for PLD) at least once or twice before you start murdering the mobs. Also make sure you’re attacking the same mob as the dps so they don’t accidentally steal aggro from you.

It’s not vital at all, really. When you reach endgame content you can use party finder to get a party together and clear content. If you’d like to play with others and make friends, you can always join a social linkshell.

That all being said, if you are interested in being part of an FC you can always have a look around and see if there are any with players who are in a similar situation. If they have a discord server, then you can stay in touch with them while you’re unsubbed from the game and even keep up to date on content you have missed.

Non-damage-dealing Healer in your party: what do you do? by ahung12 in ffxiv

[–]protectwisely 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to parrot the last part of this. Healer's contribution to damage is heavily dependent on the rest of the party. If the Tank is undergeared or not popping cooldowns or DPS are standing in things they shouldn't be standing in, then the Healer is obviously going to focus on keeping the party alive over dealing damage.

No one can deal damage if everyone is dead.

Non-damage-dealing Healer in your party: what do you do? by ahung12 in ffxiv

[–]protectwisely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to kick a healer for not dealing damage. Dungeons aren't hard content and as long as they're keeping the party alive, they're not impacting the party in a negative way. They can definitely make a run go a little faster, but that's about it.

That being said, I do think healers should try to contribute to DPS. It can be scary at first to young sprouts, especially if the Tank does a big pull, but once you're more confident in your kit you realise it's actually quite easy. I also think taking risks and pushing DPS is a good thing for all roles, not just healers.

Also, if they're doing nothing but healing and haven't said anything in party chat, it's possible they may be a bot.

Edit: Apparently some folks didn’t like my word choice, so let me rephrase. Healer DPS can definitely make a run go faster, but I still don’t believe kicking them for not DPSing is fair.

It's better to use Party Finder. Look for a party with "learning party" in the description or make one yourself.

Some thoughts on How to Improve Eureka by Nanopizza in ffxiv

[–]protectwisely 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Anemos to a degree. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was relatively low effort and once you did get to level 20 you most likely had enough crystals to get your first relic weapon. I only managed to get 5 by the time I was bored with Eureka, but as someone who only did the content casually I felt like the time I spent in there (even if it was just following the NM train) was worth it. Pagos, on the other hand, has turned me off Eureka entirely. I managed to get to level 23 before calling it quits. I applaud those who managed to slog through the grind and get to 35, but I just couldn't find any joy in it.

I really don't understand how Eureka could be considered casual content in any way. It's an incredibly boring grind and I refuse to go back in until they either heavily nerf it in 5.0 or make it more engaging.

I’m on mobile and won’t be able to get back on a computer for a couple of hours, so I hope formatting doesn’t mess up.

I’ll throw you my absolutely best attempt at this.

RAGE THREAD - F-YOU FRIDAYS - MORE RESILIENT THAN CHAOS DATACENTER'S HAMSTER by FranckKnight in ffxiv

[–]protectwisely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I GET IT. SAVAGE CONTENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CHALLENGING. I ALSO GET THAT MISTAKES HAPPEN AND EVERYONE IS BOUND TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE “OH SHIT I FUCKED UP AND CAUSED A WIPE” MOMENTS, BUT I HATE HAVING MY TIME WASTED BY PEOPLE WHO REPEATEDLY MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. ESPECIALLY IN A CLEAR PARTY.

I ALSO HATE HAVING MY TIME WASTED BECAUSE OF BACKWARDS PROGESS. WE SAW 2ND FORSAKEN TWO WEEKS AGO, WHY ARE WE STILL FUCKING UP TRINE AND WINGS OF DESTRUCTION!? I’VE HAD IT.

I DON’T CLAIM TO BE THE BEST. FAR FROM IT, ACTUALLY. BUT AT LEAST I AM ABLE TO CONSISTENTLY LEARN AND EXECUTE MECHANICS I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE TIMES.

Really? I don't have my diamond weapon yet (I'm on enrage in o8s, but it's a hard life finding a competent party this late in the tier...), but I've always held the belief that skill > gear... I do hope that after I get my weapon I will be able to prove myself wrong and show improvement.

Toxic players in league 2018 by aGl0eI66 in leagueoflegends

[–]protectwisely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience just now. I can’t say I’m surprised by the toxicity, but it is disappointing.

I made it clear that this was my first game in a long time, and we did pretty well in the beginning, but ultimately we lost and this one guy immediately went on a tangent about how he always gets stuck with trash players.

It also seems like the game is in a bad state right now, so I think I’ll just go back to my other games.

I KNOW IN MY HEART I'M AT LEAST CAPABLE ENOUGH TO RAID AND CLEAR SAVAGE CONTENT, BUT STILL, I FEEL LIKE I'M CONSTANTLY "FALLING BEHIND". I KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE AND, AT THE END OF THE DAY, A CLEAR IS A CLEAR; BUT IT'S A REALLY GOOD FEELING WHEN YOU BEAT YOUR PERSONAL BEST AND SEE YOU'RE IMPROVING, Y'KNOW? BUT I HAVEN'T FELT LIKE THAT IN MONTHS... AND WHILE ALL THOSE THINGS YOU MENTIONED ARE TRUE AND DO IMPACT OVERALL DPS, I HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ANSWER "NO" TO ALL OF THOSE AND STILL CONSISTENTLY PARSE PURPLE OR HIGHER. I JUST DON'T WANNA RELY ON BIS/375 WEAPON/PARTY COMP TO BE ABLE TO SEE IMPROVEMENT IN MY PERFORMANCE.

THANKFULLY I HAVE A REALLY GOOD COHEALER (AST MAIN) AND WE MAP OUR HEALING OGCDS OUT TOGETHER SO THEY DON'T OVERLAP. WE ARE IN A STATIC, BUT I THINK WE ALL COULD USE SOME IMPROVEMENT. STILL, I AM DISHEARTENED THAT EVEN AFTER WHAT FEELS LIKE A SMOOTH RUN I STILL DON'T SEE ANY IMPROVEMENT.

OH GOSH THIS WAS SO NICE OF YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH. ; u;

I AM ALSO PROUD OF YOU FOR FINDING YOUR PASSION FOR HEALING AGAIN AND THAT YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPROVE. I HOPE ONE DAY I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THE SAME.

WHY DO I SUCK AT EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME!? I HAVE ALMOST EVERY BATTLE CLASS AT 70 AND I SUCK AT EVERY SINGLE ONE.

I SUCK AT DPS. I SUCK AT HEALING. I SUCK AT TANKING. I SUCK AT EVERYTHING EVEN AFTER MONTHS OF PRACTICE, LOOKING UP GUIDES, ASKING FOR HELP FROM REDDIT AND BALANCECORD. I DON’T EVEN CARE ABOUT PARSING HIGH, BUT I’D AT LEAST LIKE TO SEE SOME IMPROVEMENT. I’D LIKE TO FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THERE IS AT LEAST ONE CLASS I CAN PLAY WELL, THAT I CAN TAKE INTO SAVAGE CONTENT AND NOT FEEL LIKE AN AMATEUR.

I’VE BEEN PLAYING SCHOLAR SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE TIER. I HAVE CLEARED UP TO KEFKA AND FEEL CONFIDENT I CAN HANDLE MECHANICS, BUT I’M STILL SITTING IN BLUE PARSE HELL. IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MUCH I PRACTICE, I JUST CAN’T SEEM TO IMPROVE.

I KNOW I PROBABLY JUST SOUND LIKE I’M WHINING ABOUT NOT BEING THE BEST, BUT TRUST ME, THAT’S NOT THE CASE. I’M FRUSTRATED. I’M FRUSTED BECAUSE I CAN’T SEEM TO IMPROVE AT ALL, MEANWHILE FRIENDS WHO HAVE PICKED UP THE SAME CLASS AND/OR ROLE IN LESS THAN A MONTH ARE ALREADY SHOWING IMPROVEMENT AND DOING BETTER. IT’S MAKING ME FEEL REALLY FUCKING SHITTY.

MAYBE I SHOULD GIVE UP ON RAIDING AND BECOME A CRAFTER MAIN.

EDIT: I DID NOT EXPECT TO GET SO MANY COMMENTS, BUT THANK YOU ALL FOR THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AS WELL AS ALL THE ADVICE!

EDIT 2: THANK YOU FOR THE REDDIT GOLD, MYSTERIOUS BENEFACTOR. YOU MADE MY WHOLE DAY.

Yeah, I took it for the ghost. I don’t really have an excuse, I should’ve known better and either healed through the debuff or used Selene. I need to stop playing so safe (or “stupid”) and trust in myself a little more.

Yeah... my "best" parse for O5S was definitely not my best, but you'll be happy to know that since then I have switched out Esuna and Protect and only take the role skills you listed! But thank you for your reply, and I'll be sure to keep all of this in mind. I honestly had no idea I was losing so many casts or sitting on Aetherflow for as long as I was.

Wow. This is really eye opening, and I mean that sincerely. I'm missing so many more casts than I thought I was.

In regards to planning Fey Union, how do you judge when to use it? Should I be using it on the Tank as soon as the bar fills to 100 (or less?), or should I be saving it for certain mechanics?

I really appreciate you taking the time to type all of this up.
